  1. What it means? Never even attempt to read the mind of a jazz producer (i.e. Orrin Keepnews) ! I dare say Keepnews took his time as Morgan was absent from the scene for some time (for known reasons) after the session: The Take Twelve session (January 24, 1962) was framed by others for VeeJay (October 13, 1960) and Blue Note (December 21, 1963) with rather long breaks between them. If a musician cannot promote his album .....
  2. Maybe comparing release dates of other Jazzland releases will help. Click here for a label listing. Of course this is no proof, but I think it suggests it was released pretty soon after recording; The Johnny Lytle Jazzland 81 was recorded July 1962 and its release probably not delayed.
  3. ... and they sell my favourite Elvin photo as a poster:
  4. The whole P.M. Records catalogue is available as custom CDs or MP3 from the label's website. That trio album is great - fascinating to hear how Elvin copes with the rocky rhythms of some tunes!
  5. No, it just lures out the dirty thoughts hidden deep down in the attics of your mind ....
  6. He was reported playing alto on one of his last Japanese tours, or was that the electrified Varitone sax? But I think you have listed all of them. David Wild should know!
  7. Noone to comment on Zeus Otto the one and only?
  8. .... or by the ladies, that is. So whose opinion is really represented by these posts?!?
  9. They are not only about beer, but by the beer ....
  10. That's enough out of you. I always wonder how the guy can type straight with all that beer in his tummy and all the bottles strewn about his keyboard. Amazing! He has all those women to type for him, you know... You mean to tell me Catesta is actually sitting with his feet up on a desk, quaffing down beers, and dictating all of his posts to a bevy of beautiful women who dutifully type his every word into the computer, all the while gazing at him with looks of reverence and adoration? What a life! Maybe the fact that I drink only non-alcoholic beer makes me think about other things to do with the ladies then having them type my posts ...
  11. In 35+ years I have not seen John in a tie - maybe he puts one on for a job interview. I too swore I NEVER will wear a tie - and then I got two (beautiful ones) as birthday presents ..... But John's example encourages me to stick to my ideals. I'll wear dark glasses with the ties so nobody's recognizes me. If anybody needs to borrow a tie, I guess Rooster Ties will gladly help you out ..... Welcome to the board, Mr. Litweiler, always enjoyed your articles!
  12. This is what I find so irritating about this track - not only the trumept, the whole band sounds like it was an unreleased take from the Blue In Green session ... Don't worry that you're late - you'll be the first one I will ship a disc to when it's my turn.
  13. Mosaic just announced the LP version for October, so the Columbia CD should be available this fall.
  14. The only add I opt for is one for CD Baby!!!
  15. I think this two volumes Copenhaguen concert it´s OOP, but I´m not sure. The SteepleChase site lists them both as available: (link)
  16. I have this on the Swingtime ST 1004 LP Coleman Hawkins Vol. 1 (there never was a Vol. 2), which says "probably Los Angeles, early 1945". I don´t have my copy here, but I believe it says something like "...the exact recording date remains unknown, but it´s supposed to be recorded about two years before he recorded his famous "Picasso" for Norman Granz..." The Swingtime issue liner says: (Signed "Morgan")
  17. I have this on the Swingtime ST 1004 LP Coleman Hawkins Vol. 1 (there never was a Vol. 2), which says "probably Los Angeles, early 1945". I enjoyed the bonus disc even more than the first one - the Buck Clayton jam session will be one to get! No Sweets here, but Emmett Berry!!!
  18. I already became curious about that Donald Lambert when I read through the stride piano thread - it's a relief this seems to be avaialble. A few surprises here - Paulo Fresu etc. Will have to listen once more with the list at hand. Muchas gracias - I hope to return the favor soon!
  19. You got it, Flurin! ..... and we will have a hard time guessing al the other leaders and sidemen!
  20. He had some nice records out in recent years, among them a Melvin Rhyne organ trio on Savant. Here's his website - although I have problems viewing anything. I can't even get a source code ...
  21. I did successfully exchange PMs with one board member, but did not get any e-mail notifications. Strange.
  22. Then why were the other LPs all under Pearson's name and for other labels?
  23. Same here. For a Lester Young tribute, Byron messes around too much, and his tone is not as sweet. Why do they record after only one day of playing together? I will have a listen first before buying.
