The fading dollar--will imports go up?
Son-of-a-Weizen replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I think a good number of us had better seriously consider putting our petty political differences aside for awhile so that we can lock arms and be prepared to annihilate those treacherous europeans if they dare storm our shores in search of cheap cd booty! Ghost my boy....you with me? (Oh, Hans....that 'thing' showed up today-- so until further notice, you're exempt from all of this 'unpleasant' business) -

Yeah, my sister worked in one of those fish stick manufacturing joints in Gloucester...told me not to eat that stuff !!! -
Absolutely!

Well of course you do! Say....don't you people also consume massive organ-clogging quantities of printers ink when it soaks into the fried foodstuffs that are served up in tightly bound day old copies of The Guardian???? -

While we're at it, someone should teach Tom Brokaw to pronounce "Gloucester, MA" ---- it ain't 'Glowster' (as in 'Ow! That ice-pick of yours seems to have come into contact with my ribcage!) -
Well how do ya like that? Nice find Hans...I completely missed it! Kevin, that faulty burn isn't a 'South-of-the-Mason-Dixon- Line' Special is it?
-
Anyone know if either of his Smash/Trip titles have been released on cd? They're both nice lps...one w/Thad Jones & the other w/Hutcherson. There was an Argo one as well that might have come out a few years back but I've not heard it.

Good idea.....I just used that e-mail 'alert' service of theirs.

Summer 2003 vacation thread
Son-of-a-Weizen replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Geez, I dunno..........I can't seem to find tix to Munich for less than $800. I must be looking in the wrong places (ripmeoff.com) ? -
Translation: I'd certainly never nail some guy in the head with a tire iron in order to score a Conn or two for my collection.....but if he happened to be leaning out the window and my foot suddenly.....oh well !
-
Vijay already voted.....how 'bout you?
-
HLK, I'm fairly certain that these titles will be coming out as promised but not all on the same date in May. In fact, a good dozen or so are now available for purchase....and some (like 9026/9027) are not.
-
Thanks folks.....I'll definitely add this one to my wish list (when's Father's Day? June? )
-
Thanks HKL. So you think that this issue has been suspended or maybe cancelled altogether? Geez David, I don't rank a 'thanks' for reciting these from memory and individually typing out all those infernal cat. numbers rather than just cutting and pasting one long long list ? Such manners! B) Well, I did forget 9026 & 9027 though...sloppy work.

Well, while you two were gazing deeply into one anothers eyes, I sure hope you reminded him to keep searching around in that closet of his for the Lee Morgan radio show tape that he stashed away----we're dying to hear it.

I've had the Herbie Harper Sextet blaring away in my car for at least 6 weeks now and have decided that I should make an effort to try to scoop up some of his other material. I saw a blurb over on the AMG about the Complete Nocturne Recordings (Fresh Sounds) and despite the fact that they sort of downplayed the 2nd & 3rd discs, it looks like a real good one to go after...particularly with those Levy and Rowles trio sessions. I've seen the set over at the Fresh Sounds site at a reasonably price.......is it worth picking up? And how is the Virgil Gonsalves material? Never even heard of him.
-
David, don't know where that laundry list is either but from the first 25 that appeared in the series I think they are re-pressing: 9001 (adderley) 9002 (Clark) 9003 (blakey) 9004 (powell) 9005 (coltrane) 9006 (hancock) 9007 (clark) 9008 (morgan) 9009 (Blakey) birland 1 9010 (Blakey) birdland 2 9011 (Rollins) 9012 (Morgan) 9013 (McLean) 9022 (Miles) vol. 1 9023 (Miles (vol.2) 9025 (Dorham) 9029 (T. Jones) Noticeably absent are titles like Open Sesame, True Blue, Bass on Top, etc

Chris, FYI. http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...t=ST&f=14&t=678 Maybe the moderator actually locked the thread down because of your snappy photo? You & Berigan should form an ad agency.

.....and not to forget the Jazztet's "Another Git Together" (Mercury) -
Your observation is not true.. I wrote a satirical entry on this bulletin board and it was censored by B3er. Then they sent an E-Mail and told me "to consider a different jazz bulletin board". I have never posted an entry on this bulletin board since then although I still browse occasionally. Interesting, although I'm sure they had a good reason to delete or censor what you may have posted. You are the first person I've heard of who has actually been censored on this board. I've heard of threads being deleted and whatnot but only because their function was basically no longer serving a purpose (eg. Offering and Looking For threads). Jimmy Gee is correct about this and I remember exactly when it happend and also thinking it was a bit odd that the thread was shut down because..........well, just scroll back through the political threads to April 10 and you'll find his. Kind of funny actually ------ picture Johnny, Catesta, Albertson, Weizen, Ron, Berigan, Moose, Alex, Dan & Conn500 all jammed into an apartment living room yelling, drinking, turning over furniture, smoking and fighting about political stuff 'till 4:00 am on a weekday and nothing happens........but then Jimmy puts his trash can out on the curb a day early and gets served with an eviction notice.

For the umpteenth time -- Harold Land "Take Aim". If BN can work the magic on Mobley's "Flip" LP --which is one of the 'tinniest' sounding recordings I've ever heard --and spit that out as a Connoisseur, 'Take Aim' should be mere child's play for them. -
I haven't yet hit a Hope disc that I disliked. There's one I've been spinning lately called "Sounds From Rikers Island" from '63 or '64 that made it to cd in Japan (Century Records) in the late 80's and features a larger group including John Gilmore (ts), Fred Douglass (as), Lawrence Jackson (tp), Philly Joe, and a few others (even Earl Coleman belting out a couple of numbers that to my untrained ear aren't anything to write home about). This is certainly no RVG recording....but it swings along nicely and Hope sounds pretty good on tracks like "Ecstasy", "Trippin" and my personal favorite, "Kevin".
