  1. I went with "The Flip" because after suffering with that horrible UA vinyl for so long I'm eager to see how the BN maestros can whip that tin mine of a session into shape.
  2. When I saw his "La Jolla, CA" home address printed on the thing, I knew that baby wouldn't bounce. After that, I had to laugh each time I saw him float a variation of the "I'm a poor college student stuck in Seattle routine" on the 'old' board.
  3. Yes Bertrand, thanks for setting me straight....I meant the "Marie Antoinette" alt. take. Edit time! -_-
  4. No joke. Believe me, at one point I thought about trying to get this planted in Vol. 25 of "Ripley's Believe it or Not!".
  5. Heck, I even accepted a check from Aric back in '00 over at BN...and it was good!
  6. If this is one of your favorite BNs, then you should definitely pick up the JRVG. The overall sound seems excellent (no loss at the low end) and both of the alt. takes are worth checking out for the subtle differences in style. The first time I played the disc and heard Shorter's solo on the uptempo "Marie Antoinette" alt. take I took an immediate liking to it, and half-a-dozen spins later, definitely prefer it to the regular version. Also, in the transition from Shorter's solo into Hubbard's -- the opening trumpet note or two is on the subdued side -- while in the alt. take Freddie's opening note is loud and clear (as in I'm HERE!). Also, during McKinney's solo on the excellent uptempo alt. take of "Arietis" I noticed that you can hear a bit more of Tyner working the keys in the background than on the regular version. Lot's of fun stuff like that....I'd recommend picking this one up.
  7. I'm in for the Harden if it's still available?
  8. Liar, liar...you obviously haven't had a series of shoving matches break out over doll & pony outfits in your house this fine muggy afternoon? GIRLS!!! DADDY HAS TO MAKE A JAZZ CD FOR MR. STEFAN AND MR. JAMES, SO SINCE IT'S A NICE DAY OUTSIDE WHY DON'T YOU GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY ??? :rsmile: oh, and how about getting daddy a cool beverage on the way out? *** Yeah, it is a pretty good time...best wishes.
  9. Would like to trade this JRVG (TOCJ-9168) for either a TOCJ or JRVG copy of Dorham's 'Trompeta Toccata'. Anybody?
  10. Sounds like they unmasked Tom on that Larry Young Mosaic prank and it's paaaaaybaaaack time!
  11. Parrot carpet bombing the Mosaics again? Why not ask Mnytime to loan you a rock python for the weekend?
  12. Geez Brad....why not just stick a rusty 'ol wrought-iron fire poker through Tod's heart?
  13. A very solid performance!!! And now for the gold cup....what am I going to get at a local seafood joint tonite? 1. fried oysters 2. 3 pints of ice-cold Stella Artois (Belgium) 3. the check.
  14. Okay....and the rope, pre-cut in even lengths, was manufactured in which country?
  15. You're that good huh? Okay then......when the Russians shot all of those Polish officers out in the Katyn Forest in '40 and bound their hands behind their backs, what did they stuff in many of the victims mouths (gag) before dispatching them with a round?
  16. I thought Nessa was on vacation? How'd he sneak in here to cause such a ruckus?
  17. No contest here.......rain or shine it's "Pretty Brown" from'ELVIN!'
  18. The pupil-constricted eye of one of those Thai 'sea gypsy' children who can see clearly underwater?
  19. A real winner! A number of previously unissued versions of "Satin Doll" (with a healthy level of background crowd chatter), "Cherokee" and 'One-O'Clock Jump"....as well as a "Lil' Darlin" false start. Sound quality is excellent.....b&w booklet is in japanese. As for the packaging, it's truly a shame that this Garland box hit the shelves after the first of the Mosaic Select sets were released because had the Mosaic folks seen this beautiful, glossy, sturdy black box, I've no doubt that they would have made an effort to duplicate it rather than go the low-quality flimsy cardboard route. When you hold the Carmell Jones Select in one hand and the Garland box in the other you just have to shake your head and wonder.
  20. Hopefully, DSD remastering. If not...then an expensive albeit incredibly sturdy box like the Red Garland "Complete at the Prelude" that just arrived.
  21. I couldn't take the torture any longer so I decided to order the Japanese cd set as well...now counting the days 'till the July 2 release.
  22. I'd rather listen to Chet Baker sing than watch a boxing match.
