  1. This is at the top of my 'need to buy' list so that I can ditch the vinyl. Cover is alot better looking than the cruddy smash one too. Would like to see the Dave Burns Vanguard Lps come out on disc as well.
  2. Test. Test soulstation avatar. Test
  3. Good gravy! The 'ol single malt sippin' Herr Dr. SidRat is back. Greetings.
  4. I'd have to go with Hubbard's "Goin' Up".
  5. Looks like Pigman's down in Kill Devil Hills, NC bit the dust, so we're in need of a replacement. Anyone have a favorite babyback outfit out there in TN/NC/MO/Ark. that'll cryovac the bejeesus out of 'em & ship overnight ? Hey, even ND'll work if they're good....do they even do ribs in places like ND???
  6. Chuck and I were supposed to hang out and drain a couple of Strohs the first week of April....but when I followed the very detailed set of directions he'd sent me, I wound up at Aric's front door. Hhmm.
  7. That is a good deal....appreciate the offer! No need though, I'm ready to take the plunge w/out a life jacket....so please shoot an address my way and I'll get down to business and start lickin' a stamp.
  8. Davis Cup was a letdown for me. Damn Your Eyes!!! As was McLean's "Capuchin Swing." Damn Your Eyes Again!!!
  9. So you've reverted back to your old habit of not paying eBay sellers for the cds you've won, eh?
  10. So is it better to go with the "free" one...or the "trial" one?
  11. Truth be told, under ordinary circumstances I'd rather drain a quart of vodka and spend the night in the sack with a whizzened old Elizabeth Taylor than buy an organ cd.....BUT having just checked out all the clips on Don Patterson's "Dem New York Dues" I think I'll drop the coin on it. How on earth though could someone slap "Oh Happy Days" onto a disc like that? Dreadful. I'll probably wind up with the Organissimo one too..."Jimmy Smith Goes to Washington" sounds pretty good.
  12. Yes, I thought I spotted you in that crowd of troublemakers back in March! Seriously though, I presume that you would have been back there in the mid-late '50's or so? Some nice spot on the Innen Alster perhaps? Back to the Reeperbahn -- that area was quite the place back then from what I understand...that in addition to all the Grosse Freiheit 'activities' there was alot of nice music, dance clubs...attracting alot of well-groomed types. It really started to get seedy in the late late 70's.
  13. Yeah, screw those old "chicken in every pot" campaign slogans......where's the good sense candidate with the "a Reeperbahn in every city!!" slogan ?
  14. Paul, you don't even want to hear my opinion on gambling, and hookers. Heck, it's time to move forward on this and legalize prostitution. Let the state run it like a business....cut loose the low-life element (pimps), keep it contained in certain areas like it is in many european cities...run the mandatory health checks, etc. The Nevada model is even goofy imo because state law specifically excludes areas with high population densities (Tahoe, Reno & Vegas) .....but at least it's better than the present nonsense of having cops running oodles of sting operations, busting toothless hags on street corners, etc
  15. Received a note from them on Fri. morning that it was back in stock...quickly grabbed it and now it's again listed as "out". Wonder how many copies an outfit like DG receives at a time....2 or 3?
  16. LaRocca's "Basra", Jackie's "Swing, Swang, Swingin'", Blakey's "African Beat" and Donaldson's "LD+3" just don't click w/me.
  17. Have you heard anything about the Japanese box due out on July 2nd?
  18. Hey Mr. Golden Arm -- That mean your battle cry is 'Pull the Males it Makes Good Sinse!'
  19. Okay....so maybe it's not a mini-lp...it's still too much for Japanese vinyl ! -_-
  20. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=2535086708
  21. No, not writing him off....it's just that her Dad has already picked up a couple of Benny Goodman discs for her because that's all he really knows. I need to play(ie...pretend ) the hip 'uncle-in-the-know' and bring in some new material.
  22. Thanks very much folks....I'll definitely have a look at 'em. (If it's not in the bin at the local shop, there's enough time to order one online).
  23. My best friend's 12-year-old daughter started in on the clarinet about 2 years ago. I'm going to be swinging by his place in NY in a couple of weeks and thought I'd bring her a cd. Last time they came to visit I made a burn of a DeFranco Mosaic disc and she seemed to like it (maybe just being polite? ). Anything else out there other than Benny Goodman that is accessible (and that I can find at a Tower or Borders)? Thanks.
  24. I doubt it. First of all, it takes a little bit of time & effort to make these things. If someone is making 'em for you, they probably aren't just making one at a time for you. Since bats routinely break, you'd want to be in a position to replace a busted one in short order......I suspect that he orders up a couple of 'em at a time and has a few spares sitting in his house. The other thing is that if you were using a corked bat just to 'show off' to fans, then you'd make damn sure that it was marked with an "X" or something so that you could tell it apart from the others. It wasn't marked for a reason.
