  1. High and low I've hunted. LPs for $90 but nothing else here's three Brit trios
  2. Oh yes. My introduction to both Drake and Anderson. Okka Disk was a great label Absolutely agree on the first and third. Would love to hear the second but it's not easy to come by the last time I looked
  3. Herbie Mann - Whirling Dervishes [Atlantic, mono]
  4. Long Ryders were regular visitors to London, saw them a few times around the release of their first couple of albums. Always good value. Sid Griffin lived here, maybe still does. Green On Red, now there was a great live band. Not sure they were Paisley Underground but were contemporaneous, in my head at least. I daren't check to see how wrong my memory is... edit to add: just read back through the thread and I was saying much the same 4 years ago. Consistent or boring? hmm
  5. Tonight, lots of Jazz harp. A tribute to Alice Coltrane and Dorothy Ashby https://www.kingsplace.co.uk/whats-on/jazz/legacy-alice-coltrane-and-dorothy-ashby/ I saw the band play an Alice celebration set last year, very good not slavish reproduction but seemingly heartfelt tribute. Very much looking forward to 'Afro-Harping' tonight
  6. Andrew Hill - Judgement! [Blue Note/Music Matters, 45rpm]
  7. and you only have to get up from your seat once. Less exercise though
  8. Andrew Hill - Point Of Departure [Blue Note/Music Matters, 45rpm] this morning's arrival, sounding glorious
  9. I didn't know about that one. Listening on Spotify now. Thanks for posting
  10. Thanks, I'd not thought to look there. The LP commands high price Other titles of note are the two Abdul Wadud duet albums with Leroy Jenkins and Julius Hemphill. Also two Sea Ensemble releases
  11. I'd love to hear that Dyani
  12. Shall do. I shall use this as a prompt to contact him
  13. I last heard from him in Nov/Dec and he was well and thriving in his retirement, listening to lots of music and attending concerts regularly
  14. It was. London's weird like that Lots of the organ groups were alongside the Jaz Messengers, Lee Morgan...you get the picture. Sometimes as scene setting but most often as dance tunes. There were dance troupes specifically formed to dance to Jazz at the clubs in the scene.
  15. Undoubtedly they were thinking "Let's get our marketing team to exploit the buzz over Acid Jazz at the moment". As horrible as the genre name may be it was certainly very noticeable here in the UK in the late 80s (tapping into the Acid House club scene). A successful record label with the name was bringing many new ears to Jazz and Jazz influenced music. Clubs, like Dingwalls, had people dancing to Jazz again!! A very vibrant scene ripe for some marketing exploitation and the rebranding of some famous Jazz recordings that were once again club floor fillers. Great times, maybe not for the purist but certainly more purists were born from this time. Similar things happening in London now, again exciting and surprise, surprise once again upsetting the "that's not proper Jazz" brigade. They haven't yet found the marketing label for this upsurge. They will.
  16. First gig I ever saw. 1976, London. Silver Bullet Band If you make it I'd love to hear about him now
  17. Short interview and soundclip of his new work http://downbeat.com/news/detail/wadada-leo-smith-rosa-parks roll on Feb 15th
  18. I'd love to hear that Triple Point Lowe
  19. I haven't listened to that or any other Hathaway in far too long. Tremendous album. Thanks for the reminder
  20. That Tyner, White, Clarke trio is something to behold. Looking forward to the watching the rest of it
  21. I'd buy lots at that postage rate! My cart for the new Guy and the Holmander box came to just shy of 100 euro, 25 euro of which was postage. Too rich for me. Postage from Poland to UK has risen dramatically in the last few years (as it has from US) making download and streaming the only affordable option if available I'll keep an eye on other sources for the Guy
  22. Thanks Steve, some very good news there A new Guy large ensemble piece is reason enough to by any boxset. The rest will be great as well and I prefer Percy to Peter so that suits me fine. I've seen Wickihalder in a trio with Guy and in the Blue Shroud and he's very good indeed. Only issue will be the cost...
