  1. Ornette Coleman - Of Human Feelings [Antilles]
  2. Shirley Scott - Scottie [Prestige] I was listening to this live version of the band only yesterday. I should get the ECM out again
  3. Thanks, for the thought on shelf thickness but hadn't thought of the dividers as weight-spreaders. I was coming at it from a care for the LPs angle too. There's the weight of that many, almost inevitably not vertical LPs, leaning on the LPs at one end that can't be good for the covers if nothing else, so a divider or two lessens that.
  4. I'm about to have an alcove shelved out to accommodate my LPs. The shelves will be 1110mm (43.75'') wide. I'm just wondering what folks' thoughts are for how regularly that width should be divided, if at all. thanks in anticipation
  5. Kenny W guests on that too. Another one I attended
  6. It was 20+ years ago so I don't remember that much detail, I'm afraid. But the timings feel about right for a Vortex evening. Just looked at the Discogs entry and it says " All of the music performed that evening is included unedited.", a quote from the sleevenote perhaps? I've never bought the recording for some reason
  7. Thanks Clifford, it's happened enough not to be coincidence
  8. Same struggle here...weakening
  9. Yes, I often find that's the case on whatever he appears on
  10. or different side, responding to a different improvisatory context? the 'Mossman' album is a cracker and fitting recognition of a very nice man I got to know when he ran the original Vortex - I worked in the local library service and he used to drop off the flyers each month for distribution. We'd have a chat and he'd sometimes let me in for free.
  11. Yes, that's often my concern. Pure Pleasure seem to be mining Strata East recently. My understanding is that the ownership of those recordings are with the artists. Does this mean that the label's negotiating with each one or their estates? Good on them if they are but allow me some skepticism Also, anyone know about Superior Viaduct? Just reissued Alice Coltrane's 'Lord Of Lords' and previously 'Cosmic Music'
  12. Togashi/Lacy/Kent - Spiritual Moments [Paddlewheel] finally got a copy (prompted by a JeffCrom post recently). Fabulous music and the recording is really alive. It does have something that I've noticed on a few LPs purchased from Japan, a quiet background crackle throughout (thankfully that's only really noticeable at quiet parts). The vinyl looks pristine and clean. Is this something to do with humidity I wonder? It's improved with one clean so hoping subsequent ones will do the full job Thanks. My knowledge of photographers/photography is sadly lacking. I'm off to do some online self-education
  13. Dave McDonnell Group - Eidetic [Whistler Records]
  14. and one of the best cover photos, ever
  15. Thanks, this is the bit I didn't find online, especially that Bloch replaced DeAguera. I could hear the change but couldn't find a personnel listing for the later recording. I quite like the Afro Blues Today LP and the way that most tracks fade support the idea of them being excerpted from longer takes.
  16. Regret never getting that box (may go for the dl one day). Only seen Parker/Drake twice but one was with Brotzmann, the other Gjerstad so I'm not complaining Enjoy the Order To Survive shows
  17. I've been really enjoying the LA soul-jazz of this album since picking it up a few weeks ago on a whim there's some online info and discography that shows five albums. I'm intrigued by the fact that the one above is definitely a vibes/flute front line but by the time you get to their last one, below, no vibes, no flute and no readily available personnel credits. First album, the top one, has William Henderson on bass, Jim Keltner (!) drums and Jack Fulks, who evidently played with Chico Hamilton, on as/fl can anyone shed any light on the personnel changes through their recordings? Most information suggests that they were the vibes player Joe DeAguero's band at the offset so what happened to DeAguero? Only O-board reference is on a Magnificent Goldberg BFT from 2014 so maybe that piqued interest
  18. That gives me some hope. I had avoided it until now as Old and New Dreams are a favourite and couldn't see how Redman Jr. was going to pull this off. He's most definitely not his father
  19. Afro Blues Quintet Plus 1 - Introducing [Mira/CBS]
  20. I've been thinking about getting that. Any good or is there a reason that a one-off recording by a bunch of students was so obscure? edit to add: just found it on YT, still interested in your views CT if you're so inclined
