Fav Current / Old School Music Videos
Alexander replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Yeah, I remember when it was a BIG event. MTV used to announce when they were going to air it. It's kind of funny. This would have only been a short time after "Billie Jean." Wasn't "Billie Jean" the first video by a black artist to air on MTV? By the time "Thriller" came out, the "M" might as well have stood for "Michael." It's sad to watch this, though, and remember how talented and good looking MJ was before his brain dissolved... Watching this also reminds me of how HOT I thought the female lead in the video was when I was 12. I remember getting the LP for my birthday that year... -
Glenn Ford died a few days ago....
Alexander replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
To me, Glenn Ford was always Jonathan Kent in the 1979 version of "Superman." (I know. It always comes back to comic books with me, doesn't it?) I thought his death scene was a masterful use of understatement. -
I've downloaded all 18 episodes to my iPod. I've only listened to the first episode (Weather) so far, but I LOVED it. Really great stuff, both stuff I'd heard and some I'd never heard before (I'd heard Elvis doing "I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine," but I'd never heard Dean Martin doing it before). I'm really looking forward to hearing the rest. Thanks!

Which side of Radiohead's OK Computer is better?

"Dark Side" is over-rated, perhaps, but it's still my favorite Roger Waters-era Floyd album... -
For the book, no. The book is nothing but album cover art from his Sony catalogue. For the price ($9.99), yes it is worth buying it there.

The Petty is great too! Two of the three surviving Wilburys have good CDs out. What's Jeff Lynne up to lately?

Haven't seen the movie yet, but the CD is great.

Looks more like Hitler without the 'stache. -
I got it today as well. I've listened to the first three tracks so far, and they sound great!

SUSPECT ARRESTED IN JON BENET RAMSEY CASE
Alexander replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yes, he's a nutjob looking for attention, but this whole thing was mishandled from the get-go. There was no reason to release information about this aspect of the investigation until they were absolutely *certain* that they had something. Honestly, how hard would it have been to take a sample from Karr and Fed Ex it to Boulder for testing? There was no reason to haul his ass all the way from Thailand. If they had kept their heads, they would have seen this whole thing for what it was, and the rest of us would have been spared this pitiful charade... -

I love the whole album, but since "No Surprises" is my favorite track, I'll have to go with "side two." -

Speaking of "Ok Computer" (the only Radiohead album I own, although I would like to get more), the Easy Star All-Stars, authors of the excellent "Dub Side of the Moon" album, have just released a reggae version titled "Radiodread." Campy title aside, this is an EXCELLENT album if, like me, you dig "Ok Computer" and reggae music. The highlight, for me, is Toots and the Maytals amazing version of "Let Down," although the whole disc is fantasic. If you liked "Dub Side," you'll love this one. Tracks: 1. Airbag (featuring Horace Andy) 2. Paranoid Android (featuring Kirsty Rock) 3. Subterranean Homesick Alien (featuring Junior Jazz) 4. Exit Music (For A Film) (featuring Sugar Minott) 5. Let Down (featuring Toots & The Maytals) 6. Karma Police (featuring Citizen Cope) 7. Fitter Happier (featuring Menny More) 8. Electioneering (featuring Morgan Heritage) 9. Climbing Up The Walls (featuring Tamar-kali) 10. No Surprises (featuring The Meditations) 11. Lucky (featuring Frankie Paul) 12. The Tourist (featuring Israel Vibration - Skelly Vibe) 13. Exit Music (For A Dub) 14. An Airbag Saved My Dub -

This is not my beautiful house, this is not my beautiful wife... Hey! Stop making sense! -
I have both discs, I adore them. She's got a great voice and a very sexy delivery. Two thumbs waaay up.

Sorry about that, Jim. As I said, it was just a joke. I was about to edit the post myself when I saw that you did it for me. Thanks.

That reminds me of something that happened to me years ago when I worked at B&N. I was the children's department manager, and my boss (the store manager) got on my case because of some vaguely dirty joke I had told in the privacy of the break room (among staff only). Everybody laughed, but he called me into his office and told me that he was going to change my assignment to the regular book floor (which amounted to a demotion) because he didn't think I could be trusted around children! I was shocked. Do people really have this idea that people who work around children don't (or shouldn't) have an adult sense of humor? It would be ok for me to joke about Batman getting it on with Robin if I worked with adults, but if I work with kids that must mean I'm pervert? Weird! And the more I think about it, I wouldn't want to hear you making off-color jokes about adult subjects if you were the teacher of my child. It would bother me. What you do in the privacy of your own life is your choice, but I would be uncomfortable with you around my child too, if I know you acted and joked like that around your colleagues and potentially your students. Regardless of your intent. A teacher sexually assaulted an 8 year old girl in one of the schools here, a couple of years ago. Stuff happens. People want to trust their teachers, but there are perverts out there in all professions. Don't give parents a reason to distrust you, or even be suspicious. Well, you'd probably very frightened to hear the kinds of jokes/comments that are made all the time in school staff rooms. For myself, I don't see a problem when teachers make obscene or off-color comments in general, as long as they don't do it around students. What I object to is when teachers talk that way about specific students. I've heard male teachers make comments about female students and their bodies in a way that I think is over the line. Talking about how a girl has "the biggest boobs I've ever seen on a Freshman." Things like that. I've also heard female teachers make sexual jokes about some of the male jocks ("He can score with me anytime"). I have never and would never talk about a student in such a manner, even if that student WAS more than usually attractive. It's a slippery slope and it would be SO easy to get into trouble that way. Especially when you consider how students dress for school!

Moreover, insinuations regarding a possiblly homosexual/pedophillic relationship between Batman and Robin go back at least as far as the publication of the infamous "Seduction of the Innocent" by psychologist Frederick Wertham in the 1950s. Wertham's contention was that images of a grown man and a young boy co-habitating in an intimate relationship would give Batman's young male readers "ideas." It was silly, of course, but as you can see it is possible to read this stuff into the early Batman comics. That's it. That's the joke. For years, me and my friends (including HWright who posts here) have been making jokes about Batman, Robin, and the Man/Boy Love Association. It's a joke. But I guess if I have to explain the joke, it's really not funny.

Perhaps instead of continuing to post images you could actually explain why you're posting these? Do you not know of NAMBLA? Are you a member? No. That's why I'm making fun of them!

You're right. Your father is a nice guy. I'll try to be more circumspect in the future. And who is this "Layoff" person you are addressing?
