  1. many organissimo posters, most notably clementine, have expressed very strong, often brutal, often very original well-thought opinions,\ about music, musicians, and other things. i most always found a solid kernel of truth and great sincerity in what he was trying to say. i consider the comments made in this thread no less.
  2. the mental quickness certainly impressed me. some mental flash has depth and meaning; much does not. i clearly need to investigate more. thanks to all for the thoughtful, knowledgeable comments.
  3. we wish your blues project well.
  4. i am now listening to vijay iyer perform bernstein's somewhere. god, i hope that he has performed a great number of standards. the quickness of his mind, his technique, and taste puts him into VERY rare territory.
  5. you can find an rca pearl mp3(2 gig) player at walmart for about $30. one aaa battery lasts at least 40 hours. changing the program involves plugging into a usb drive(it is read as another drive) and you can change programs the way you move things in and out of any other drive. the thing is about the shape and size of a round cigarette lighter and is very durable. i recommend it highly, with your headphones, of course. i record with a free format called mp3 pro which makes 64k sound every bit as ggood as 128, and effectively doubles the capacity. 2 gigs is a great variety of music.

  9. the middle ground idea is briliant, and much more plausible than the article.
  10. i just heard some really swinging tasty standards work, previously unknown to me, from country guitarist hank garland and a very young gary burton. did they have much of a musical relationship?

  12. wasnt some of that early evans sumptuous trio stuff with philly joe(everybody digs bill evans)? to me, jones was a more rigid time keeper than the admittedly essential motian and lafaro?)

  14. belated thanks to all of you. ....late to my own 'event', it would appear. i am wondering if 65 candles is a blessing or a curse.
  15. christmas music, especially jazz, recorded in july mostly doesnt cut it. are there live jazz albums recorded during the holidays? i am guessing those might be an artistic success, but a commercial failure. of course, presentday recorded jazz is by default a commercial failure anyway.anyway.
