  3. a beautiful creature indeed--what a great loss. take care of yourself, berigan. i lost 2 of my 20 year old pets (cat and dog) within the same week 3 summers ago. not coincidentally, 3 days later, i suffered a minor stroke. as i went to drive myself to the hospital, left arm dangling, there was a huge beautiful stray cat crying, about 3 years old, neutered, declawed, and unloved, right at my car door. her rear legs scratched the hell out of me as i tried to hold her. when i returned home 3 days later, my first move was to bring her into the house, a kitty who i soon named ms. goodspeak. she was, and still is, great medicine, and a fine friend. things often work themselves out, but there will always be an ache in your heart.my sincere best wishes.
  4. thanks, the contrast of the paper flowers, the tonnage, the cabooses, and the romance of riding the country helpless and captive in those little colored boxes, the goose egg nest defiant on the rails, the grafitti, the beauty and symmetry of rails, are as rich and sinuey and irresistable as a ben webster ballad.

  8. the music of this duo is among the very most spiritual, technically masterful, challenging and beautiful i have EVER heard. the prospect of seeing the duo perform live and meeting them is very exciting!!!!! http://www.metarecords.com/Ornithology.html Greetings everyone- I'm very pleased to inform of a special concert offering on April 27th at the Columbus Dance Theater: YeYi: Adam Rudolph - Ralph "Buzzy" Jones Duet a wordless psalm of prototypical vibrations - Adam Rudolph is a world-renowned hand percussionist. Ralph "Buzzy" Jones is a saxophonist and flutist of the first order. They have been performing as a duo for a long time, but this is a rare Midwest tour. - Concert will begin at 8 pm sharp. No openers, just the feature concert as they will perform for a solid hour together. We have tentatively planned a workshop (# of RSVPs depending...) with Adam and Buzzy that would run from 5:30 - 6:30 PM the day of the concert. Please RSVP if you would like to attend the workshop. A donation of $10-20 is suggested but not required. Read the bottom of the e-mail for some idea about Adam's workshop approach. - Columbus Dance Theater is at: 592 E. Main St., Columbus OH 43215. This is on the east side of downtown by the I-71/E. Main St. exit. It is a quiet, safe neighborhood with street parking and a lot off the alley out back (Cherry St.) - Tickets for the concert are $15 adults / $7 students. There are presale tickets available for $12 adults / $5 students. If you'd like to buy presale tix, contact me @ gerardcox1@gmail.com, and you can either pay through PayPal to my account or with cash or check. MORE ABOUT THE MUSICIANS: - Adam Rudolph is a master percussionist who first appeared on record for Herbie Hancock's collaboration with Foday Musa Suso, and has maintained a long and close association with jazz legend Yusef Lateef. Since the 1970’s Rudolph has been developing his unique syncretic approach to hand drums in creative collaborations with many masters of cross-cultural and improvised music such as Sam Rivers, Pharaoh Sanders, L. Shankar, and Fred Anderson. He is known especially for his innovative small group and duo collaborations with Don Cherry, Jon Hassel, Wadada Leo Smith, and Omar Sosa. http://www.metarecords.com/adam.html#anchorbio - Ralph "Buzzy" Jones is a woodwinds player who is not only an excellent saxophonist and flautist but also plays a number of exotic woodwinds such as the Ney, hichi-riki, sipsi, and shena. He has performed regularly with Adam Rudolph, and Kevin Eubanks on Sundays at the Jazz Bakery, in Los Angeles. He is a close associate of Yusef Lateef. He is also a regular collaborator of guitarist Stan Smith, and is currently a visiting professor at Oberlin College in Ohio. Check out Adam's YouTube channel for lots of cool vids: http://www.youtube.com/user/adamtabl#p/u "A Percussion wizard" Down Beat "Adam Rudolph...reinvents world music for the sophisticated listener." New York Times "An intriguing, and, to these ears, utterly unique aural experience." Option ADAM AS A MUSIC EDUCATOR- - Adam Rudolph is also an accomplished and empathic instructor who teaches world music improvisation and composition in Europe and the United States. His rhythm workshops, geared to young and old -- with or without musical experience -- are designed to help participants "find and develop your own voice with hand drums." While it may sound unlikely that our hands could lead us to our voice, the path turns out to be a direct one: Because the rhythm and pattern of our movements in the world most often get locked into a limited, stylized mode of expression when we are quite young -- learning to hear the infinite variety of rhythmic possibilities outside the tempo of a single culture is a liberating experience with potential repercussions in every area of our lives: New rhythms break-up old patterns. Participants thus find themselves more able and free to hear and "march to a different drummer. This time, however, the drummer is themselves - responding to the natural rhythms of their own unique being.

  15. This Friday, March 19th, I am presenting the New York-based Trio Tarana with renowned percussionist and jazz musician Ravish Momin. The local group Chakra will open. An Evening of World Rhythms featuring Ravish Momin's Trio Tarana with local guests, Chakra Friday, March 19th from 9 pm - midnight Columbus Dance Theater- 592 E. Main St. Admission: $10 adults, $5 students with valid ID. I've given the event the general (generic?) title of "An Evening of World Rhythms", but more specifically, both of these groups have a significant Indian classical music influence. Trio Tarana represents a unique confluence of classical Indian music, electronic rhythms, and jazz. In the trio Ravish Momin plays a mixed kit (traps + tabla) with two string players, while one musician also manipulates electronic beats from a laptop. If you enjoy odd time signatures, and really fast rhythms-- this is certain to grab your interest. A fun tidbit about Ravish Momin is that while being active in the New York experimental music scene, he is also a percussionist in pop star Shakira's touring band. Ravish has also performed with William Parker, Billy Bang, Brad Shepik, Christian Howes, Napoleon Maddox and others. Chakra is a collaborative local project involving Hakaun Kaya, Brad Mellen, Brad Poure, Matteo Amburgy, Hans Utter, and Utpola Borah. The group is focused on Indian music and rhythms, and their sound shows they have really dug deep into that music. Links to sound samples for both groups: Ravish Momin/Trio Tarana: http://ravishmomin.com/audio/ Chakra: http://www.myspace.com/518324704 Hope to see you out on FRIDAY. Should be a really unique show.
