http://barrydallman.com/brighton-jazz-festival-the-worst-exploitation-of-musicians-ive-ever-seen/ "Each act will pay a small sum to register (probably £100 Early Bird, up to £150 for late registrations) with no extra marketing costs. This money will be used entirely for marketing the Festival; graphic design / printing of the brochure, PR, flyers etc. and any other similar costs. The bit about ‘no extra marketing costs’ is particularly hilarious, because, as it turns out, the festival also requires the musicians to submit a marketing plan detailing exactly how they’re going to help with the marketing and promotion of their gigs. …you will need to submit an outline of a marketing plan too – how will you help us, the Festival AND the venue to fill your date?"

"I've been working closely with my friend Dennis Jeter, who is programming the new site for me to my specs. It's been fun to redesign the site and to think about things like metrics (how we measure how many minutes are listened to) and how to formalize the automatic payouts to the artists. As the project progresses I am getting more and more excited. As I mentioned, we are about to launch our crowd-funding campaign to raise the funds to finish building out the site, upgrade our cameras and recording equipment and - most importantly, replace our Steinway piano which, although a noble beast, is on it's last legs and needs desperately to be replaced. I know everyone and their grandmother is doing crowd funding but we are going to try and offer some unique gifts for the donor levels and even a private concert. I'll officially announce everything next week. I welcome your comments at smallsjazzclub@gmail.com" -

His company, Jade Wealth Management, based in McLean, Virginia and established in 2008, accrued high profile investors such as Victor Cruz, Vernon Davis, Jared Odrick, and Brandon Knight. FINRA’s report alleges that Jade investment managers recommended athletes to STS; some introductions to STS were made directly by Brahmbhatt, himself. In return, since March of 2009, STS is alleged to have made at least $1.25 million in payments to Jade."

http://www.scmp.com/news/china/article/1266282/guangzhous-historic-sites-vanishing-faster-eye-can-see-them "At midnight on June 14, five ancient tombs in suburban Luogang district were destroyed by workers building Guangzhou's No6 subway line. The Qin dynasty tombs were about 2,000 years old. The Beijing-based Guangming Daily quoted Miao Hui, a researcher at the Guangzhou Institute of Culture Relics and Archaeology, as saying: "We were digging the tombs yesterday. But by this morning, we found that all five tombs were gone.""

after watching this year's playoffs, i've discovered that nhl hockey is now my favorite sport to watch, by far. observing and fathoming the subtleties and ebb and flow of a hockey match is like solving pi. much of the pleasure comes from the fact that advertisers haven't found a way to effectively control the sport. -

http://www.businessinsider.com/mens-wearhouse-statement-on-zimmer-2013-6 ""Neither the Board nor management desired a total breakdown of the relationship between Mr. Zimmer and the company. In our discussions with Mr. Zimmer, we made considerable efforts to find a solution that would have allowed him to continue to have a significant involvement with Men's Wearhouse. Unfortunately, Mr. Zimmer wouldn't accept anything other than full control of the company and the Board was left with no choice but to terminate him as Executive Chairman. "As a Board, we care deeply about the culture of Men's Wearhouse, which we fostered and helped create along with the management team and our 17,000 valued employees. We stand behind its core values of world-class customer service, servant leadership and the open door culture that celebrates the value of every voice.
