a chronological review of mal waldron recordings from now until 1900 edt. http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/wkcr/ this program will look at the overall arc of his long career, highlighting some of his more famous recordings with musicians like Eric Dolphy, Steve Lacy, and David Friesen. Trained in composition at conservatory, Mal Waldron was active from 1957 until his death in 2002. His career can be separated into phases: his time in the late 1950s at Prestige working with Billie Holiday and playing in Charles Mingus' Jazz Workshop, the early 1960s collaboration with Eric Dolphy, Waldron's permanent relocation to Europe in 1965, and subsequent career on the continent and in Japan, and his eventual return to performing in the states. The profile aims to give the listener a sense of scope of Waldron's work as a musician and composer. Hosted by Sophie Rubashkin.

uinta is new to the ohio region since early this year. although their brews were introduced with NO advertising or promotion, they can't meet the demand. i haven't had my first brew of the day yet. i'm contemplating maybe a delicious sam adams cream stout, their best beer, or the uinta black lager while watching black hawks-kings playoff hockey. -

tonight was the finest game of the playoffs to me--goalies were fantastic-it's too bad either team had to lose. teams aren't getting near enough rest between games. -

WGCL-TV reports a man was arrested before an Atlanta Braves on Friday because he was playing the trombone outside Turner Field. But Eryk McDaniel argued that he was not breaking any city laws because he wasn't asking passersby for money.

beyond the scorecard http://beyondthescorecard.blogspot.com/2013/06/two-out-runs.html "1. Chances are there are more base runners than with 0 or 1 out. 2. Hitters really do perform worse with two outs--based on some research I'm doing on clutch hitting, that 17-point drop in batting average from one out to two isn't just statistically significant, it's STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT (even though true statistical significance doesn't have magnitude--it's binary, either significant or insignificant). So, most runners on base, but pitchers have a decided edge--could very well be a stalement. The numbers suggest otherwise, since 38.4% of runs are scored with two outs, around five points higher than if runs were evenly distributed by outs. Add to this my humble acknowledgement that my first attempt at quantifying two-outs runs was, um, how shall I put this, er, WRONG, I became very curious--my question:"

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/05/education/e-gordon-gee-to-retire-from-ohio-state-presidency.html?_r=0 "E. Gordon Gee, the colorful, highly paid president of Ohio State University who has been embroiled in a series of embarrassing gaffes, announced Tuesday that he would retire on July 1. Mr. Gee, 69, has been apologizing recently for remarks he made in December at a meeting of the Ohio State Athletics Council. In talking about why Notre Dame was not in the Big Ten, he said: “The fathers are holy on Sunday, and they’re holy hell on the rest of the week. You just can’t trust those damn Catholics on a Thursday or a Friday.” Mr. Gee’s recorded comments were obtained by The Associated Press and made public last week." -------------- Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino called Ohio State president E. Gordon Gee a "pompous ass" for Gee's comments about the Cardinals & Catholics. Maybe a sip from Pitino's new special edition Maker's Mark whiskey can sooth Rick's nerves.

Cool, glad to meet another Jerry. I may call you that instead of your lengthy user name, if you don't mind. I've only seen Baba in bottles here in Delaware, and I've only drunk it from a glass thus far, so it tasted good to me! I will also seek out the Guiness Foreign Extra, but I'm not sure if it's available here. I'm also leaning towards the lighter ales for summer. my pleasure, jerry. i rarely back off ponderous wagnerian concoctions. guinness extra is as light as i go, although the night bubba smith died, i drank a miller light or two at the pub in his honor(because of those wondrous 1970s miller lite commercials)..
