  1. "As a stadium announcer I almost got tossed by the umpire because of a scoreboard malfunction. He had pointed to the booth and gave me the heave-ho. I guess he figured I was trying to show him up on the ball-strike count. There was often a delay in the signal from the controls to the scoreboard, but it was sporadic or didn't register at all. Thankfully, the coach talked him out of it. True story." sweet--i am waiting for a book and movie on minor league umpires. it could be AWESOME!!!!!!!!

  5. Seeing pictures of pianos being destroyed is kind of like watching books being destroyed. There used to be so many stores around that sold pianos. Most large music stores nowadays carry no pianos at all. There are but a handful of music stores in Columbus that carry pianos.

  8. thx for the report. i learned long ago that i'm no good at assessing character, or lack of it. this is an ugly reminder.
  9. It says "supporters," though - not "students." Big difference, given the way PSU fans (by no means are all of them alums) treat Paterno as if he was a deity. point well taken--thanks

  13. the 500 wasn't telecast live until 1985. before that, taped highlights were shown later in primetime. the tragedy you described, and several others, caused the networks' fear of live telecasting the event.
  14. Agreed. In bicycling, there's very little use for a size 10 1/2 head. I had to special order a bike helmet last spring. XXXL. My hat size is only 7 7/8. So Barry's must have a lot more Xs.
  15. more breaking on browns' sale link
  16. Well, to be fair, he banjoed 13 HR's last year in only 189 ABs. He was once a can't miss prospect with the Braves...give him some AB's and the Indians win the Central! he was a big bust in chitown. i figured someone would notice his high hr %. lol
  17. watching verlander most of the game last night, he just didn't seem comfortable to me. clearly there was some physical malady. the brown's have announced the brownies are for sale. hopefully, herr dolan will make a similar announcement of the indians.
