  1. I'll take "Some Other Time."
  2. Hi Jeff,

  4. Thanks for setting me straight! I was a bit puzzled by some of what you wrote originally. Makes more sense now!
  5. Sorry to hear the news. RIP. He shows up on a number of nice sessions on the Zephyr label. May give one of them a spin later.
  6. I thought there was a small group session with Zoot Sims, but the trumpeter on the date I was thinking of was Jerry Lloyd. John Wilson was with Benny Goodman in 1949, but Doug Mettome was in the band and was more likely to get the trumpet solos. In 1954 he shows up on a Jimmy Raney session, and a Pete Rugolo big band date (again with other trumpeters such as Doug Mettome and Leon Merian). In 1955, there are two more Jimmy Raney Quintet sessions on Prestige. In 1956, he's on the Fourmost Guitars LP on ABC-Paramount. In 1957, he's on part of the Jazz Concerto Grosso album (Phil Sunken). Thereafter, there's not much. There's a John Wilson on trumpet or flugelhorn who shows up on some big band albums in the 1970s and 1980s. Could be the same guy. There's also a circa 2010 album by The Pittsburgh Jazz Legacy on MCG (Manchester Craftsmen Guild) that has him on flugelhorn.
  7. See previous thread about Master Jazz Records here: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?/topic/3227-master-jazz-recordings/
  8. I think he's on some small group sessions led by Phil Woods and Gerry Mulligan. I can check later when I get home. It looks like the Phil Woods that I was thinking of was actually the Jimmy Raney session. It also looks like he's on the Phil Sunkel Jazz Concerto Grosso album. More from home later perhaps...
  9. I'm back. As suspected, Senter had recorded St. Louis Blues previously, hence the follow up "New St. Louis Blues." He recorded SLB originally in 1924 accompanied by the Chicago De Luxe Orchestra. The Okeh recording pictured below was from January 20, 1927.
  10. Possibly he had already recorded St. Louis Blues? I'm away on vacation without access to references.
  11. I'm pretty sure that Lorne mentioned MP3 (I remember making a face).
  12. David, My impression was that there would be no "physical" release. It sounded like it would just be downloads. At least that was my takeaway from the conversation.
  13. RIP. Sad news.
  14. I saw Loren Schoenberg a few weeks ago at the jazz collector's bash in New Jersey. He said that he was "99% sure" that something would be coming out and that he was awaiting some final clearances. At the time, he described the final approval as "imminent." Given that there's been no subsequent announcement, I wonder if there's still some snag getting some clearances. He said that selections from the collection would be made available as downloads only.
  15. Still more. I remember finding these two a little disappointing, but I should go back and give them another chance:
  16. Could be. Doesn't have to be. Some more: Anyone know this one? I keep meaning to get it but haven't yet. Some for Strays:
