  1. I don't know whether I should go all or all but anyway: no you've never told me and erm.... thanks for the compliment. It was my pleasure.
  2. The AMG link doesn't list a drummer, but a look into Bruyninckx revealed it is not Dunlop on that album - somewhat too busy for him, anyway, but that drummer sure is great, but completely unknown to me! - if it's that album. Who does Bruyninckx list as the drummer? if it's the same guy as listed in the personnel listing, he is unknown to me too. (not that tells you anything)
  3. I myself am a big fan of the small group stuff he did. The more pop-oriented bigband/hollywood stuff often sounds a bit dated and isn't always to my taste. Anyhow, I would say you definitely need the album you posted the cover of. The version of Lush Life on the album with Trane represents THE definitive version to me. If it isn't in Hartman's phrasing (where it already is), it's definitely in Trane's solo. During the sax solo, not only the tempo is doubled, but the crying urgency and intense beauty of the lyrics as well. That is no small feat. One of the best solos Trane did IMHO.

    Stan Getz

you probably heard the album West Coast Jazz (AMG link). It's avaible in the Verve Master Edition series. Getz/Gilberto is a classic of course. I myself have got a bit weary of it though. This album has been Album of the Week. You can read that discussion following this link Captain Marvel is a 70s album I believe. I am not familiar with it. One I have always likes is Stan Getz and Cal Tjader (AMG link), which features pianist Vince Guaraldi, guitarist Eddie Duran, bassist Scott La Faro, and drummer Billy Higgins and some very nice cool jazz drenched music.
  5. If you decide to kick those six tracks out and reburn the thing, may I suggest you add the first track of this disk, which I assume you will have (?). I had no room for it and threw it out. Fits rather well between track 2 and 3 I think. The pianist present at the session sat out on it.
  6. yup, REALLY REALLY. Check AMG or any other online source. It's TRUE!
  7. CDrs made for the Organissimo BlindFold Test Check this forum
  8. damn good thing I had my seatbelt fastened when you came, saw, and what? forgot to post???
  9. Tjobbe, deus, I can provide you with these. I propose I send copies to one of you, who then copies and sends on to the other. We'll work this out. Chris, I would love to be of help, but I think someone in the US better handle this from an overall cost and kerosine perspective.
  10. when I got this set, I sat through it in a couple of days and did it again just after that. Take some days of deus, you may need them
  11. as deus62 pointed out: he has groupies for that (don't remember how many)
  12. interesting remarks as I myself noted the same thing. I'll refer back to it once I reveal the answers.
  13. And they deliver a gold pen with that so that you can write something legible on it as well?

  19. if they bring a drug detecting dog, your boxes will be ripped to pieces though. pity.
  20. save it for the afterparty please! Glad you like it!
  21. Nothing BUT post women. WAAAAAY East indeed!
  22. There was a slight mess up on the AotW front. Things have been cleared up. In the meantime, I have decided to save the tradition and have agreed with Jim R that I'll call this week's selection and he will announce next week's pick soon. To get a discussion rolling on such short notice, I thought I'd better pick something many will have. So the floor is open for Poppa Lou and his masterpiece Blues Walk! obviously, Lou himself likes this album a whole lot. The below quote is from an interview with Fred Jung that can be found on allaboutjazz (link). I myself have always loved this album. It has a great relaxed atmosphere, even during the more up tempo selections. A definitive master piece and I really wonder why it wasn't included in one of the early batches of RVGs, when that series still was supposed to be in honour of Lion.
  23. me too
