  1. Me too!
  2. Not quite. Not the Polish people are selling the condoms. I didn't phrase that properly. But I think I'll stay away from that issue ... for a while.
  3. Depends on how many "evildoers" there are there. Don't count it out. Plenty. But most of them have moved to Germany. That's probably why they sell those unnaturally huge condoms here. And, we've come full circle.
  4. Bush is planning to invade Poland? You don't say.
  5. So the Germans killed a couple of million Jews because their penises aren't big enough? Interesting theory.
  6. line Sounds more serious though.
  7. Maybe we should all buy Honda motorcycles?
  8. I'm sick and tired of this Wynton Marsalis discussion regularly erupting all over the place. By giving so much room to this reactionary @@@@ you more than likely support his cause rather than fight it. And where does the notion come from that Wynton is the biggest enemy? As if that @@@@ was a giant and not the whiny little puppy he often turns out to be. Just keep the name off the board and keep the people happy. Buy jazz, go and see jazz, and stop talking about the death of jazz brought about by that Marsalis dude. Those people who listen to him are beyond hope anyway, and that Wynton has such substantial influence on so many people I just seriously doubt. You guys are giving him much more recognition than he deserves ... and the general audience too little respect. From a European perspective, I think that nobody in his right mind actually believed the limited Burns view to be a definitive history of jazz. Most people are not that dumb (although there are exceptions). Why is it that some people seem to have a personal axe to grind with Wynton ... and need to do so in public view constantly? Who the fu*k cares (... about Wynton)? Sorry, but just my 2c worth. P.S.: And that Dizzy/Coke thing is just sickening, but hardly surprising. Hey, it's the land of opportunity.
  9. I once had some expensive furniture delivered which had to be paid cash on delivery. The sum was somewhere around $6000. The driver who brought the stuff spent about 30 minutes writing up some forms we both signed (I received the furniture, he received the money). He then asked to use the bathroom. When he was done, he grabbed the papers, left the money on the table and walked out. Imagine my surprise. He had told me that I was first on his list and that he still had about 40 deliveries to run. For about three hours I debated with myself if I should keep the money. Hell, the guy could have lost it on the way somewhere ... and he had signed that he had received it from me. And, I was flat broke at the time. I then called the guy on his cell phone (I had his number from before because we had to arrange time of delivery). Here comes the good one. He came by later that day, took the money and left ... without a single word of thanks. Should've kept it. Cheers!
  10. I just discovered this via a, I think, yet unstable Firefox extension, so no link here. Here the same text several times in list form. Franklin County's unofficial results had Bush receiving 4,258 votes to Democrat John Kerry's 260 votes in a precinct in Gahanna. Records show only 638 voters cast ballots in that precinct. Bush actually received 365 votes in the precinct, Matthew Damschroder, director of the Franklin County Board of Elections, told The Columbus Dispatch. State and county election officials did not immediately respond to requests by The Associated Press for more details about the voting system and its vendor, and whether the error, if repeated elsewhere in Ohio, could have affected the outcome. 11. Ari's drumming is fabulitious. I don't know about his composer's qualities, but he's one of the VERY FEW drummers that light my fire. Great guy. Check him out. Really nifty stuff. Cheers!
  12. Yeah, that Jean Michel dude left pretty early though, maybe too early. "I ain't playin' that clink-clink-clink jazz no mo'". And off he went. I wonder what happend to him? Cheers!

  15. Yep, I totally agree. Thanks for those corrections above! Browsing these forums here there's often talk about glaring errors like the ones you mention or crummy remastering jobs, and, and, and. They just don't make them like they used to. I didn't even look at the booklets yet. I just listened to the stuff (but it certainly makes me wish that the powers that be would get some accurate and complete reissues out there, pronto). Besides that, I couldn't contribute anything to correct any errors - I simply don't have the knowledge when it comes around to these sessions. Cheers!
  16. It went the usual way: I stumbled into one of my fave CD haunts and found two of these in the bins: [01] Ruby Braff and Ellis Larkins. Duets. Vanguard, 2000. [02] Ray Bryant, Bobby Henderson, Sir Charles Thomson. Key One Up. Vanguard 2000. They cost the sum total of 1 Euro each. Shrinkwrapped and spankin' new. So, because I liked the names, the looks of the CDs, and because I could vaguely remember some Basie Bunch CDs as having been on my shopping list before I trashed that particular list by accident, I snapped them up and had them lying around for quite a while. When I got around to listening to these two I was much more than pleasantly surprised. These sessions not only sounded good, they were right up my alley and as it turns out, besides hunting around for more from this series which, if I researched correctly, spans twelve CDs by now, I haven't been playing anything else in the very little time I had for listening to music. A wonderful discovery! Now, if I'm not totally mistaken, these are not mentioned all that much here on Organissimo (some members have recommended several of these in, for example, a Vic Dickenson thread), so I thought I'd give them a thumbs up here. I have since bought the two wonderful Mel Powell releases, It's Been So Long and The Best Things in Life, and my Amazon shopping basket is awaiting my pulling the trigger on the rest. Any opinions on these? I think they are wonderful CDs and the only problem I have with them is that the material seems to be somewhat randomly plucked from the vault. Can I go wrong by pulling the above-mentioned Amazon trigger on all of them? And, for those living in Europe, because Zyx have their hand in these, are there different issues (German and American)? As you know, I'm quite weary of Zyx's quality control, but the ones I have seem to have been "Made in Germany" and sound wonderful anyway. I'm thinking of getting the others via Caiman America (I've bought tons of stuff from these guys via Amazon and often paid less than half of the Amazon Germany price, and that's including the postage) paying a bit more, but if the German pressings are identical, I can save some cash. Cheers!
  17. Dumbass question. How does it actually work in the US? I mean, it's a normal working day. Do you get time off to vote or is the time it takes to go and vote taken off your paycheck? I'm sure the latter can't be true, but ... one never knows. We always vote on Sundays here. Cheers!
  18. I could stilll kick myself (endlessly!) for not getting myself those Complete Dinah Washington on Mercury disk sets when they were still readily available. They go at outrageous prices now already (well, many of them, if they are available at all) and it is the one single collection I would readily kill for if that was necessary. Damn. It was actually the later material that drew me towards her. Typically me, I picked up Dinah '62 (Cuscuna/Addey) rather late in life. I didn't hear the quite cheesy strings on "Drinking Again", I just heard that voice. Wow. Blew me away. I was hooked from the start and have been fascinated by that voice ever since. On that same disk are "Destination Moon" (yep, I'll go along), "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't By Baby" (with doo-wops and all but, man, that voice is just killin'), which practically demanded my yelling "I is!", and also some clunkers ... but when she starts singing my defenses go down. Hell, the last song is a must if you love that Gin as much as I do, and it makes you forgive Cuscuna and the boys (yeah, not their fault, but stilll ..) for providing such an uninformative booklet. I could go on about Verve's wonderful Elite Edition of The Best in Blues and the wonderful "Drummer Man" (2 glorious takes) plus all the other tunes which just kick butt. There were other disks I sniffed out and bought but it soon became apparent that like with so many other great musicians and vocalists, the companies were satisfied with putting out mediocre collection after mediocre collection, again and again, with the same material, yeah, you guessed it, again. Frustrating. Yes, I came late to Dinah, but she became my favourite singer. Now I just need to sell part of my collection to finance the Mercury disks (Damn! ) and the soon available Mosaic set. Ignore the pop side, the strings, the stupid "wordless backup singers so prevalent in 50s and 60s recordings" and listen to that VOICE. I did and THAT is why you should invest your hard-earned cash in the Mosaic box. Nothing else (besides the receipt, of course, which should be stored beneath ... you know how it works ) Cheers!
  19. Happy birthday and all the best! Chateau Latour 1970? Can you save me a few drops?
  20. Anyone know of any sound samples anywhere? Cheers!
