I can heartily recommend "Alfred's" services. I have bought many a CD from him and he's lightning fast, nothing short of miraculously reliable and a real pleasure to deal with. Now, how often do you get that kind of combination? Come on guys and gals, go for it! deus62 says 5 stars, check it out! Cheers (and thanks for the wonderful music you've provided me with)! Volkher Edited: P.S.: EVERY CD I've bought was in excellent condition! Here's someone who takes care of his stuff.

No, it's triggér. BTW: I have the entire box set run and am lovin' it front to back.

Hi everyone, today Count Basie's 100th has been an item of discussion. Many people have voiced the conviction that this stellar jazz musician should in some way be celebrated in an appropriate fashion. Well, let's put our knowledge where our mouths are. I suggest we put a damn fine website out there, celebrating Count Basie and supplying the public with detailed and accurate discographical and other information which goes beyond what many other sites (on any musician) have to offer. We have all the resources right here, so ... I have ... ... the web space, ... just the right DB-based content managment program (I have a full commercial license), ... the design and programming experience needed, ... access to a large group of experts (here on Organissimo) You (might) have ... ... the will to make a difference and actually turn thought into action, ... a love for Basie's music or the willingness to put in the extra effort needed, ... the trust that this will an above average project, ... some programming or designing skills you might want to put to good use, ... ... If you think you might want to be in on this project, send me your e-mail address and you will hear from me within a week with a detailed proposal (also outlining the technical side of things). If you are not sure yet but want to maybe get with the program anyway, send your e-mail address. Volkher (deus62) P.S.: I've had some health issues to deal with and am now on the road to recovery and am this weekend completing one last webdesign project I've had in the works for three weeks. My own site is in shambles and will be deleted this weekend. A new one has been in the works and will be unveiled around June (the backend has been updated to one of the best CMS's around). I will have ample time to invest and promise to do so if I find more dedicated people willing to invest time as well. So, let's just do it instead of whining ...

Hey, I like that. That's a nice way of putting it. It is true that Wilson seemed at times to be a bit lazy (the Mosaic Master Jazz Piano box shows that ... Wilson came into the studio, announced that one take for each tune was enough and was done in, as far as I recall, 17 minutes), but that's because he had simply reached a level of playing that allowed him to, well, just play, "pulling" some amazing things "out of the hat" (the Master Jazz box is perhaps not an example of this amazing way of playing). When I saw him live several nights in a row in Copenhagen, I noticed how relaxed his playing was and how an enthusiastic audience could really draw him out. I recall two spontaneous stride numbers he did on the second night (he started playing again after a longer conversation at the bar, long after most of the audience had left) that was so flawless and still had that somewhat raunchy stride feel to it ... amazing. The only criticism one could level at him (and that is definitely not criticism in my eyes), is that his technical abilities were so sharp that he could effortlessly play a number twice without a single note sounding different. Some people, I recall, have stated that they thought his playing was a bit sterile because of its technical flawlessness (is that a word?), but one could say the same thing, for example, about Artie Shaw, who never seemed to miss a note, not even the most challenging one. I've also heard it said that with this kind of mastery comes a certain arrogance, also in the way of playing one's instrument, but if this was the case, a listener like myself could not tell. He seemed to be the true gentleman, enjoying a good night with a good audience. And beyond that, I didn't/don't really care. Cheers!

I listened to the whole set again this afternoon. Some call it too much of a good thing, I would say it's barely enough of a good thing. It remains my favourite Mosaic set. By far. Call me old-fashioned ... Cheers!

Like I said, I'm German. All things come to those who wait. Usually. Sometimes. Err, well, occasionally. Cheers! (Keep me in mind once you start rediscovering your 70s disco collection and getting ready to trash your jazz stuff) -

Appetizers are just waaaaaay too fattening. Bud Shank and Bill Perkins Jimmy Giuffre Shorty Rogers Teddy Edwards Buddy Collette etc. p.p. You know, the usual stuff. I'm always interested in more audiophile remastering. I'm notoriously short on WC Jazz in CD format. Most of my LPs I sold in a fit of stupidity many years ago. What can I say? I'm German. Cheers! Edited for empty quotes and other stupid stuff. -

I would go for the J.J.s, but the Mosaic set is at the VERY TOP of my Mosaic want-need-will-have list (although I actually never wanted to buy Mosaics again ... yeah, my spine, I know). So, sorry. Cheers! P.S.: Got any good West Coast stuff for me? -
That would keep too many Germans too busy for too long. Very bad for the already crappy economy. Cheers!

Sounds like you gained some weight. Cheers! -
Let me see. These are the same labels which are going after grandmothers, kids and innocent bystanders to collect "royalties" for illegally downloaded tracks? And then they have huge difficulties finding artists who are basically playing right next door in the club? And they can't find a postal address to mail a check? But Grandmother Jones was easy to track down ... after all she had downloaded three tunes by the Beach Boys. Man. Stick them all into a large canvas bag and dump them into the next river. Scumbags.

Just to acknowledge this BFT. I can't post much at the moment, but I love the disc. Maybe I can finally get with the program again with BFT #11. Cheers & Thanks!
