  1. No clichés on my birthday thread, please, you Cheers!
  2. *phew* B) Thanks & Cheers!
  3. Hi everyone, after doing some intensive googling, I decided to part with some cash to order this 3-CD collection. I haven't got it yet, but I'm excited about it. Does anyone else have it and maybe want to ruin it for me before it gets here? The reviews I could find were quite favourable, but what's the sound like? This is what's on the discs (which are, as far as I can tell, a collection of two single releases (a single Cd plus a double-CD release): Disc: 1 1. Love You Madly 2. Sophisticated Lady 3. I'm Beginning to See the Light 4. Black and Tan Fantasy 5. Warm Valley 6. Do Nothin' Till You Hear From Me 7. "C" Jam Blues 8. Caravan 9. Everything But You 10. Mood Indigo 11. Just Squeeze Me 12. Come Sunday Disc: 2 1. The Creole Love Call 2. I Ain't Got Nothin' But the Blues 3. The Shepherd 4. Don't Get Around Much Anymore 5. Black Butterfly 6. Take Love Easy 7. The Jeep is Jumping 8. Heaven Disc: 3 1. In a Mellotone 2. Solitude 3. It Don't Mean a Thing 4. I Let a Song Go Out of My Heart 5. Satin Doll 6. In a Sentimental Mood 7. Don't You Know I Care 8. I'm Just a Lucky So and So 9. Prelude to a Kiss 10. All Too Soon Cheers!
  4. Amazing. 5 pages of this stuff. I wonder if there wasn't some truth to the original post ...?
  5. I come back here again and again because ... a] people here are fun to talk to and do care about each other, despite the odd snide remark; b] there's tons of reliable information to be found in the music threads; c] I get cakes almost every day; d] the other boards simply don't excite me nearly as much. There are a lot more people staying here than leaving, and the community works fine. Compared to other boards, it's actually near perfect. Why try to please everybody? Trying that would probably do more harm than good. Cheers! Edited for the B) vs. b] bug.
  6. I forgot to turn 71.
  7. Yeah, I was wondering too.
  8. Right of the top of my head, these come to mind: Duke Ellington Count Basie Benny Goodman Lionel Hampton Thad Jones Quincy Jones Ben Webster Dexter Gordon Dizzy Gillespie Miles Davis Sonny Rollins Joe Lovano Wayne Shorter Stan Getz George Garzone Jon Faddis Ernie Watts Peter Brötzmann Ed Thigpen Art Blakey Adam Nussbaum Marylin Mazur Dave Holland Ray Brown Niels Henning Oersted Pedersen Mads Vinding Arild Andersen Oscar Peterson Teddy Wilson George Shearing Herbie Hancock Keith Jarret Ella Fitzgerald Diane Reeves Jimmy Rushing Ray Charles Frank Sinatra Sammy Davis Jr. Svend Asmussen I give up. There were simply too many. I attended practically every Copenhagen Jazz Festival and spent hundreds of nights in jazz clubs. At that time, my parents probably considered it to be a youth misspent. Cheers!
  9. To set the record straight, at the end I couldn't resist and did take Hal and his mom up on an offer for a free CD, which is on its way to me. All my noble intentions went out the window when I saw a Stan Getz session I didn't have yet (but should have had). Hal, it was a pleasure helping out, and, of course, alerting Organissimo board members to available box sets and rare CDs is always a noble cause in itself. I have a pretty huge collection myself, and due to Organissimo.org it's growing faster than it should (and faster than I can earn the money for it ( ). I just wish that when my time comes, someone can ensure that what I have amassed ends up with fans instead of some anonymous second-hand store. It must have been tons of work to check, wrap and ship those CDs and box sets - I've sold my share of stuff and know how time-consuming it is. All the best to you and your mom. Volkher P.S.: Do drop by here once in a while ... maybe you'll pick up on this jazz thing and have to re-purchase stuff later which you now sold. If that should be the case, organissimo.org is definetely the place to make sure your paycheck does not survive the first of each month.
  10. Oops. I think I screwed that up. The correct track order for disc 7 should be: 1. Rock-A-Bye Basie 2. Every Tub 3. Jive At Five 4. Time Out 5. Trav'lin' Light 6. Mean Old World 7. Confessin' The Blues 8. Night Time Is The Right Time 9. Keep Your Hand On Your Heart 10. Chains Of Love 11. Mean Mistreater 12. Key To The Hyghway 13. Lyin' Woman 14. Tomorrow Night 15. The Wiggle Walk 16. Katy Do 17. Meetin' Time I'm still wonderin' what session these belong to ... Cheers!
  11. There seems to be an error in the studio listing above (disc 7): KK) same personnel as (II) : Chicago, August 24, 1960 15319-4 Travelin' Light vJW aFF 52054 15320-1 Mean Old World vJW aFF 52054 15321-7 Confessin' The Blues vJW aFF 52054 [Error: there should be these two titles inbetween: Night Time Is The Right Time Keep Your Hand On Your Heart] ____________________________________________________________________ (LL) same personnel as (II) : Chicago, August 26, 1960 15324-7 Chains Of Love vJW aFF 52054, 52093 15325-1 Mean Mistreater vJW aFF 52054, 52093 15326 Tomorrow Night vJW aFF rejected Does anyone know which session these two titles belong to?
  12. Can someone post the same info for the Roulette Live recordings (if you have them copy-'n-paste ready)? I'm making some covers and am having difficulties. Cheers!
  13. I haven't gotten my disc yet! Sure you didn't forget me?
  14. Bev and Watts in the same sentence? Bev, of "Evil Woman" dullest druming in any top 40 record, Bevan? I'll see your , and raise you to ! P.S. Bev Bevan was a bad drummer? The people who say that usually also hate Charlie Watts. 'Nuff said. + Bev Bevan was a bad drummer? The people who say that usually also hate Charlie Watts. 'Nuff said. + I know, I shouldn't have put Bev into the same sentence with Watts. Bev could play all 4 notes on the hi-hat without interruption. = + 1
  15. ^ Is that a "ditto" or some Rosetta stone thing?
  16. I waited two days with becoming 70. You could say I was scared. Cheers!
  17. Out of the Blue was my favourite album for a while. Lots of great numbers on a classic pop album. "Mr Blue Sky" and "Wild West Hero" plus some others were my faves. After Out of the Blue? Nothing but downhill, IMHO. But before that? Saw them live in Cologne once (I think it was there) around the time of "Evil Woman" and the string section was just rockin' away. Great fun, and handmade music. Not like that Spears et. al. gunk. Guilty pleasue. Totally. P.S.: Bev Bevan was a bad drummer? The people who say that usually also hate Charlie Watts. 'Nuff said.
  18. [...] 'Til it's over and then shh shh It's nice and quiet shh shh But soon again shh shh Starts another big riot [...] ssshhhhhh... ["It's Oh So Quiet", Bjork]
  19. Just tuned in from Germany to Lester Young and Harry Edison playing Pennies from Heaven. I think I'll stick around. Thanks!
  20. Sorry, couldn't resist ... Cheers!
