He obviously felt the need to emphasize his points I thought these things were meant to be smart phones Only as smart as their users, I guess......... -
Dubious move on the part of Proper. If you're putting together a box of Hayes from that period, surely you know that his fans want that album and they want ALL of it. I for one was going to order the box but now will not. It could be a licensing issue. The tracks included on the Proper set are those that were originally issued on the Fontana/Epic album "Tubbs in New York". The "missing" tracks are those that subsequently appeared on the CBS CD "The New York Sessions". I seem to recall some discussion previously (here?) about the CD having to be withdrawn because CBS did not have the rights to re-issue it.

Yes, I ordered six of the Fresh Sound releases which I wouldn't have bothered with normally. They arrived yesterday and I'm playing the "Joyce Collins Trio - Girl Here Plays mean Piano" whilst typing this....... it's good! Say what you like about The Andorrans but where else are you ever likely to hear that album?

I was playing this very loud this afternoon and suddenly remembered this thread. OK it's not '50s but it's certainly electric and it's not expensive. A GREAT collection.....as are the 20th & 25th anniversary collections I might add.

Jazz records without bass or drums. Or piano.

Evan Parker - Time Lapse One of the very few "solo" albums that does it for me. However it does have overdubbing, so perhaps that's why. -
Seems like DustyGroove are re-issuing this as a 'twofer' in late March. "Two lost smokers from vibes legend Johnny Lytle – both very different than anything else he ever recorded! The Soulful Rebel has a great blend of Hammond and Fender Rhodes along with the vibes – soaring out in a massively funky sextet with bass from Ron Carter and congas from Ray Barretto – both of whom take Johnny's earlier groove into a 70s jazz funk mode! People & Love is even more impressive – and has Lytle's vibes working with sublime larger arrangements – in a style that's like Bobby Hutcherson on mid 70s Blue Note, or Milt Jackson on CTI!"

No, smug...NOT smut Seems pretty smug to me. Would you accept the challenge to compete? NO.......BTW is that a garter on his right thigh?......cue for a new thread??

Re-read this after listening to the wonderful adaption on BBC radio. Just finshed this but found it a great disappointment. The only book by him that I've not enjoyed...and I've read them all.
-
Nice album though.

What does the fact that the T-shirt comes in extra large tell us, I wonder?
-
It's now been released.: http://www.kindred-spirits.nl/release_detail.php?idxItem=67840 DustyGroove & Amazon are both stocking it!
-
I'd forgotten the Sonny Simmons were on Arhoolie. Yes, they're definitely worth getting...even at full price.

Perhaps another topic"............those who NEARLY met Miles Davis?"

I'm perhaps in the lucky position of not having to worry too much about what I spend on my musical tastes, so this is really a "no-brainer" for me. All the proposed releases look excellent to me. I've had a vinyl rip of the Jeremy Steig for many years and listen to it often. The same goes for my Carter/Bradford/Tapscott "West Coast Hot" CD - great music! Your previous releases are played often in my house, so......you put 'em out, Jonathan and......I'll buy 'em!

LF : Ted Curson URGE japanese Fontana CD PHCE 1008
Head Man replied to soulpope's topic in Offering and Looking For...
The actual timings of tracks 1-4 on my Japanese CD are as follows: 01 Roy's Boys - 15:31 14:19 02 You Don't Know What Love Is - 8:21 6:10 03 Cinq Quatre - 12:10 7:40 04 Musis Sacrum - 12:19 8:00 Timings for tracks 5 & 6 are as shown on the artwork. No idea whether the tracks are edited but it's not obvious if they are. Good luck with trying to find a copy, it's as rare as hen's teeth!
