  1. Why not? Apart from "you-know-what" it's life's greatest pleasure.
  2. Lovely....many thanks for posting that. Good to see him playing at the recording of "The Long Waiting". That's a terrific album. I must pop into the Royal Academy of Music to see the exhibition when I'm next in London.
  3. . Still, I don't have the Mosaic booklet....perhaps It's worth it for that? The booklet has informative notes by Bob Blumenthal. It also includes a couple of dozen excellent photos from Francis Wolff that you don't see elsewhere. Doh!....................I remember I got a copy of the booklet from Mosaic way back when....and, yes, it is nicely done. My memory!!!!!!
  4. I wonder whether there were other Mobley fans like me who'd managed to track down most of his Blue Note's before this set was released. The few that I didn't have became available pretty widely soon after. Still, I don't have the Mosaic booklet....perhaps It's worth it for that?
  5. Yes, I heard much of my earliest "West Coast" jazz on this label.
  6. Thanks for the heads-up. The reviews sound excellent - I've put my order in!
  7. Already mentioned here:
  8. For those who like vinyl AND free jazz, this looks very tasty: http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_ipg=200&item=321148088751&ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&_ssn=mourning_warbler&_sop=1

How do you know? It was in an e-mail I received from Vocalion.

There's a "Part 2" batch of re-issues due out soon, apparently. BTW I see that the Don Carlos release "Latin Crazy" mentioned above has Joe Harriott and Phil Seamen on it. Has anyone heard it and if so, what's it like?
  11. Just up on Amazon are a number of reissues from Bob Thiele's Flying Dutchman label: I'm not familiar with any of them, so can anyone recommend them....or not? Plus....this one that came out a while ago:
  12. I've ordered it - I'll give a review when it arrives.
  13. They're very good and both available on a single CD. I'm old enough to remember when a new India Navigation LP appearing in the shops was a big event.....those were the days. I've just had a look on Amazon and see that it goes for big bucks now. Looks like another one to put on your "I'll have when I can get it for a decent price" list, Hans.
  14. Three titles are now available again from Futura/Marge Records: Sahib Shihab + Jef Gilson Unit (1972) Freddie Redd Trio - Under Paris Skies (1971) Hal Singer Sextet with David Murray & Hamid Drake (2010) Prices have come down too. Details here: http://futuramarge.free.fr/
  15. My favourite....and I have them all!
  16. Sold my copy of this to a Japanese collector when Vocalion reissued it on CD. It was the only time I ever got "big bucks" for any of my vinyl sales and even then it was only about £120. ...if I knew then what I know now.......
  17. I pre-ordered a copy direct from Emanem last week. Looking forward to hearing it again.
  18. Just Moochin Records is doing a special deal for the two sets: http://moochinabout.com/store.html
  19. Thanks for the recommendation, David. I've put in an order for a used copy of "Purge".
  20. Quick......... call the Canine Defence League!
  21. They don't usually confirm when an order has been dispatched so if you're worried then I would e-mail them to confirm it's been sent. I've bought from them on many occasions and had no problems.
  22. I recently read All That Is. Here's my Goodreads review: I had two reactions to All That Is - the narrative/story line wasn't much - basically a man who thinks that the next woman is going to be "the one", with a nasty bit of revenge thrown in. That gets three stars. I would never reread the novel for that. I may return to it because of the craft with which Mr. Salter writes. There are innumerable sentences, paragraphs, and scenes which I would like to reread just in order to study what the author has done. The revenge passage, for example, was so well written that I was almost able to forget about the evil involved. Five stars for the craft of the writing. Thanks for that, Paul. The recent publication in the UK of "All That Is", was the reason he was featured in The Observer recently. I think I'll try his earlier novel "A Sport and a Pastime" first, and see how I enjoy that.
  23. ...because they don't sell? I speak as someone who doesn't really enjoy jazz organists.
