  1. In the case of those two albums, unfortunately I can see them. No diss to the music, YES diss to the graphic designers...
  2. The Times, it are a'changin'...
  3. you just gast to the flabberhall and gast a flabber, silly man!
  4. Buy them all! Surrender! Buy them all!
  5. Stop debating and get it. You'll never regret it. Billie is essential. Don't hesitate.
  6. Flabbergasting!
  7. Carney and Hodges!
  8. Slim and Slam?
  9. Duke and Strays
  10. I'm a Johann Sebastian Bah man myself.
  11. That Feather letter is flabbergasting! An acquaintance once showed me a letter he'd received from the wine critic Robert M. Parker, Jr. that bore a comparable load of ego and umbrage. Wish I'd got a copy of it.
  12. All references to "boiled chicken" in my posts above were humorously and/or metaphorically intended. I have never in the past nor do I intend in the future to boil a chicken!
  13. Great stuff, Chris, especially the bill itself!
  14. Ok, I know those guys never played together.
  15. I voted for "These ain't bad, but I'd name them..." Cat Anderson and Gato Barbieri!
  16. When I saw the results of the poll, I was a bit surprised that the Watkins was so far ahead of the others. But after listening to them all in a row tonight (well, I'm still in the middle of the Melle, so I haven't quite finished yet) I'm no longer surprised. Great session there. But these are all top-notch as far as I'm concerned. Thanks to all for inspiring me to listen to these again.
  17. That would be like bitching about Santa Clause... Or the taste of boiled chicken?
  18. Eddie Costa! As usual, you hit the nail on the head. A while back I got a Japanese CD version of a 1956 Sal Salvador Quartet session on Bethlehem called Frivolous Sal. The personnel is almost identical to the bands on the Connoisseur: Salvador, Costa, George Roumanis on bass, and Jimmy Campbell on drums. Nice stuff!
  19. I saw that Criterion is reissuing and expanded version of Hitchcock's "The Lady Vanishes." I wonder if that means they will be reissuing their other Hitchcock titles. I still have the old one; guess I should eBay it. In the meanwhile, I look forward to receiving "La Jetee/San Soleil." And I really look forward to their issue of 'Days of Heaven" in November. I've seen the cover of the upcoming Criterion re-release of The Lady Vanishes and I much prefer the cover of the old one. On the other hand, I'd certainly welcome another Criterion edition of Notorious. The old Criterion transfer of The Lady Vanishes is not so hot by today's Criterion standards, so I may double-dip on this one if it's significantly improved. You could always put the new disc in the old box if you like the cover better!
  20. Eddie Costa!
  21. Thanks for the reminder of this great series. I'm going to listen to them all tonight. Seriously!
  22. Actually, I find that I like it, too. Just not as much as all his other Riversides. I agree that the arrangements are good and that Blue's definitely on his game here.
