  1. Here we go again, first our minds are led by the desire for a Larry Young box set, now by the desire to find out who the hell posted this hoax: we're so easy to fool ...... ....yes, we're such fools. everyone but you.
  2. Get used to have our "weak spots" poked a prodded. It's a game of Aric's that always reminds us who's in charge.
  3. Aric Effron = Chicken Shack = BLP1577 It was pretty obvious from the start. When Aric appears, he does this sort of thing to dupe all of us "idiots." Here we go again....
  4. ....maybe we should put it this way...are there any GOOD 32 Jazz covers?
  5. I hate to take wild guesses, but I think it was BLP 1577 in the Library with the Candlestick. ....
  6. That 32 Jazz "Solid" IS bad. Didn't see that one that much in the stores, so I forgot about it. As BAD as all these were. I'm beginning to think they were bad in a "good" way. They're all so bad I actually like them sort of. One thing's for sure. When searching the used CD bin, the 32 Jazz CD cases (thick black plastic) are by far the most recognizable of them all. So, they did do something right.
  7. So how did the trip go overall B3-er? What was the highlight?
  8. ...'nuff said.' Sometimes we all get the urge to throw a monkey wrench in the system. Still, it's such a cheap shot. The old "found a bunch of mosaic boxes' trick. Been done before and never fails to raise a response. Whoever was on the power trip should just out himself and be done with it.
  9. So who was it B3-er.? Why keep the culprit's name secret?
  10. Thanks! Isn't that hideous! ARRRGGGGHHH!
  11. I don't know how to get an image up on a post.... So, could someone please show us the "money shot" for my vote for 32's worst albums cover? Groove Holmes "Groove's Groove." The most uninspired cover, maybe even edging out "Crisscraft" in apathy.
  12. I kept getting the "temporarily unavailable" page for quite some time. A few hours later I got through.
  13. I find almost all "good" jazz has a spiritual quality to it. Whether it be something as accessable as "Song For My Father" or "Back At The Chicken Shack" or other things more associated with spirituality, like "A Love Supreme." Like I mentioned in another thread, Gene Ammon's doing a Linda Rondstat tune or blowin' on "Mly Way" qualifies as a reason for a God in my mind.
  14. It certainly made me a believer in the arguement that the cover doesn't make the music! There was a lot of "average" music so to speak. But it's music that for the most part would never have been reissued by most anyone. I mean "Lockin' Horns" with Von Freeman and Willis Jackson certainly isn't the best live album ever made, but it gives a real snapshot of the times. And, to my ears, the music made during this time is some of the most neglected in jazz. Many of our legends are represented here, maybe not in their most important work, but unarguabley in their playing primes. The 70's and 80's were tough on these guys, and 32 Jazz brought to light a lot of great work I'd never of heard of otherwise. The Woody Shaws are a great example of this.
  15. Sadly, I see the plight of the artist getting even worse. With the advent of the "I'll just burn it" mentality (this includes myself and I'm a musician! ), the idea of people PAYING for music in any form is vastly becoming a thing of the past. I'm not sure what's going to happen. I know this, I doubt musicians in general will come out any more on top than before.

    32 Jazz

Man, after the "Endgame Brilliance" debacle....I really thought about the demise of 32 Jazz. When they went out of business, I did the best I could to scoop up the titles I could think to get. Knowing full well, I wouldn't be able to get many I'd want in the future. No other label put out such a massive quantity of good stuff in such a short time. Stuff that'd never see the light of day in the real world. A lot of organ stuff and "second tier" sessions. 32 Jazz is sorely missed by me. I know there's others. Now's the time to vent.
  17. Yeah, and they just found a lost reel of unreleased Unity takes too that they CDR'd and attached to the newfound sets.
  18. Hey Jsngry, when is this coming out? And from what label.... I mean, ANYTHING with Marchel Ivery needs to be in my collection. (P.S.- saw Marchel for a minute this weekend. Why he doesn't have a steady 5-6 night a week house gig in Dallas is beyond my comprehension.
  19. I can't find this either. I'm really kicking myself for not appreciating 32 Jazz CDs more when they were available for next to nothing (8.99 seemed to be the list). I don't know how many times I thumbed passed "Endgame Brilliance." A lot. 'I'll get that some other time.' I always thought. I wasn't aware of it's reputation as some of Stitt's best work. Why do good things like 32 Jazz always fade away. I even miss those black plastic cases!
  20. ...good to see The Mule posting!
  21. Got my Kynard in the mail today! Thanks Dan! I really like this idea. Anyway, haven't had a chance to put in on till now. Halfway through the first track though....and this thing's really smokin'. It may be Kynard's best album if he holds together this pace. Seems like the longer Kynard player organ, the worse it got. So this first album might just be the thing. I'll let you know when I'm done listening.
  22. P.S. Are these REMASTERED? Or are they the same things as the 32 Jazz issues, just different bad artwork?
  23. I was never a fan of 32 Jazz's covers and packaging. But compared to the Savoy covers, they were masterpieces! The Savoy artwork bites. At least the few that I saw earlier including a Groove Holmes reissue. Why don't they just release these with the original artwork, or something ever BETTER since the Muse originals are lacking anyway for the most part. I mean, if you're putting new artwork together, bad pencil drawings and lame graphics wouldn't be my first choice. Some company please save this wonderful music from continued bad artwork.
  24. Oddly enough, this made my local T.V. news... Must be a Herbie Mann fan on the production staff. These passings are getting extremely rapid.
  25. no insert.
