  1. Yes, and this keeping in mind his masterpieces "Jimmy Smith AT THE ORGAN Vol 1 and 2" have NEVER seen the light of day on CD in the USA. Sometimes Blue Note just is plain frustrating. ← Soul Stream, I expect you mean the two albums originally released as Blue Note 1541 and 1542 with Kenny Burrell, lou Donaldson and Art Blakey : I never found them except from japanese imports at crazy prices...Confusion can be made with the three first Jimmy albums which were called A new Sound A new Star, but also At the Organ vol.3 for the BLP1525. I sure would like to see these on RVG, together with my favourite Crazy baby...One can only hope ← Yes AT THE ORGAN...the ones with alternate blue/yellow covers, same picture of Jimmy with his hands crossed over on the upper manual...CLASSIC SHOT!!!! I WISH those were the ones being released today. ....And YES...THINK! is a must have Lonnie Smith. Don't be fooled by covers of 3 Blind Mice and Think, they are unlike any others you've heard. This album smokes.
  2. Thanks for letting us in on that! By the way, is that a interview with Chris Byars that is available on the web, or just a personal comment made to you? Thanks.

  4. Now, if they could just get Nancy on the VH1 Divas Show.... I'm not a big fan of female jazz singers anyway (Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan are about it for me), and now I'm even less of a fan.
  5. Have a great time Big Al, and above all else...relax. Mistakes WILL be made, things WILL go wrong, that's what makes it a gig. But it WILL be more fun that you've ever had.
  6. Yes, I actually just stumbled onto it last night. Really enjoyed it. Especially James Moody doing Woody'n You and Hendricks doing Monk. Everyone really shined. The only downer was some young girl unknown to me who was suppose to be the "future of jazz", she was pretty lame. George Wein....the more he tells his stories over the years..the more he seems to be responsible for everyone's success and direction. P.S...now that I've gone back and read everyone's comments.... You know what Nancy Wilson is just plain CORNBALL! I respect her for her talents, but can't stand listening to her, never could. That's a personal choice, no reflection on her gifts, but to my ear she's very MANNERED and egotistical. I just don't dig it. An although I like Ramsey, he didn't seem to be helping Nancy too much, he was just playing and playing and playing...and not listening. Give it some space Palease.... Nancy claimed to have not heard Billie Holiday till she was well into her career, and it shows. (sorry for my "know it all" attitude, I'm just saying what's coming to my head and not doing any self-editing). Moody is King. Hendricks swings, his "break" was awesome. One more thought...... Why do we have to "Sell" this as a program? Why not just friggin' DOCUMENT some of the greats that are still around!!!!!!! God Damnit when are we going to wake up about this shit. In ten years we'll look back at this show and wonder why we had that little girl when we could have had another older cat or another number by Moody/Hendricks (perhaps together...Moody's Mood for Love!????!!?) What a missed opportunity as usual. Can't even PBS NOT sell out?!
  7. Rowser is a real person. I guess the japanese CD attributed the bass to someone else and the Mosaic cleared it up, naming Rowser as the bassist. Looking at the AMG, it looks like he had an extensive career through the 70's at least. Recording quite a bit with Les McCann and Red Garland.
  8. Here's a session that isn't mentioned a lot (o.k...AT ALL!), but imho it's one of Hank's absolute best. Out of all the discs on the Mosaic box, it's the one I spin the most...Kenny Dorham, Sonny Clarks, Art Taylor and Jimmy Rowser (unfamiliar with him but he's definately in the Doug Watkins vein...swinging and great intonation). This CD KILLS!!!!!!!! And man...Deep In A Dream....you go Hank.
  9. Conrad, Sad to hear of your Mother's passing. I lost my father 8 years ago. Please try and take solace in knowing that things will get better for you and your family, although the loss is always felt. Your memories of her will always prove to be a powerful source of inspiration and happiness for the rest of your life. That never changes.
  10. He plays on Shirley Scott's Strata East album "One For Me" ← Yes, and this is one of my favorite albums of all time. GREAT session with Scott, Vick and Billy Higgins.
  11. Just saw where Pat Metheny is on in a few minutes on Austin City Limits...should run variously all weekend, check local listings...
  12. When you say "You're done," I'm afraid to ask what that means at this point.
  13. There's never enough bass players, and now there's even less. Here's to one of the greats of the music.
  14. ...or maybe "interlude"...anyway, the first three chords are... E-7f5/ Ef7+11 /D- what he plays on D-....is, well...pretty wild. There's a B natural note on top of the chord (which replaces the usual A natural note that's held throughout the interlude)and lord knows what's underneath, it's pretty dense. I haven't tried to see what it is but, it actually sounds intentional the more you listen. It's very hip.
  15. The music or the album cover? Solo or with partner? Now I'm getting really confused. Where's Claude Bartee when you need him....
  16. Anybody check out Frank's coda (don't know what else to call those walk down chords into the solo) on Night In Tunisia....don't know if he clamed or was just saying something else there...
  17. I get the distinct feeling around here some of you dudes need to get laid.
  18. Dude, I thought Claude Bartee was all about emotion? :bwallace2:
  19. How could a Harold Vick thread go so wrong....
  20. It's definately on of Reuben's best recordings ever. He really gets to show himself a little more on this one as opposed to a producer making him play "Ronnie's Bonnie" for the upteenth time (hey, I love that song too!).
  21. Yes, this is a VERY, VERY, VERY good CD. Actually is probably the best CD that features both Lonnie and Lou, and that's saying a hell of a lot.
  22. It's all about tension and release.
  23. Whatever it turns out to be musically for me,...Water continues to surprise and inform.
  24. Anybody else ever notice how much Eric Alexander sounds like Harold Vick?
  25. Ordered this from Dustygroove. It looks to be a new Water release which is enough for me to buy these days. Eddie on electric piano....I'm all about that.
