  1. Anybody catch his 80's appearance on the old Letterman show? They reran it this week on the TRIO network. I remember seeing this as a repeat @ten years ago and my memory didn't fail. Sly was a nut during the interview. Then proceeded to lay down the heaviest versions of "If you want me to stay" "I want to take you higher" and "Simple song"...he was playing rhodes and sang his ass off with the house band (jordan, hiram, will lee,ect)....made me really wish he was playing again. THAT'S a show I wouldn't miss.
  2. SS1, if you like that CD...uhh...umm...I'm rethinking any recommendation you've ever made.
  3. Is someone on crack or has the whole world gone mad. I for one, don't find any reason to pay this kind of riciculous money for a piece of plastic sandwiched between paper. I mean, go buy the friggin' CD.
  4. I that a picture of Cannonball or Terence Blanchard?
  5. O.K. Sonny Stitt's "Mr. Bojangles" is totally badass....Sir Roland Hanna on wurlitzer piano and Richard Davis on Electric bass....check out Blue Monsoon and you'll be convinced. ...paging JSngry...you'll dig this...
  6. I got the Anito O'Day and Sonny Stitt's "Mr Bojangles"...some (o.k. most) hate this kind of commercial schlock. But I'm a big fan of guys like Stitt and Ammons doing pop songs of the day with strings, funky guitar and drums and electric piano. So...yeah...I'm sold on the Verve itunes thing. Been an avid ipod guy for a while and it just keeps getting better and better.
  7. I'd still rather have heard him with Lee or Blue or...well, lot's o' guys. Cause like the ALSO say down south..."Brothers from different Mothers."
  8. Uggg. If only Billy Taylor's wig would have fallen off into Wilson's lap at the precise moment.
  9. Can you say nepotism (I probably can't spell it...). But, let's face it, Nat wouldn't have been in that band if he wasn't Cannonballs' brother. I'm not saying he wasn't a good musician who wrote some great songs. I'm just saying he never quite matched the rest of the band in contrast.
  10. Came across some sound clips of this and it was really beautiful. Apparently long OOP. Anybody familiar with this title?
  11. I love Cannonball, but am SOOO not into Nat for whatever reasons that I just have not been able to dig that band. I know that's horrible and ridiculous to say, but....might pick up Money In The Pocket anyway...
  12. Yes, one of the best recordings every of JOS.
  13. I haven't, but haven't been looking. I wonder if one of the jazz scholars on the board would have any advice about locating something of this nature. Michael Fitzgerald perhaps?
  14. I know quite a few "older" musicians, usually in their late 40's-early 50's with Hep C. From my experience with them, it seems like a chronic disease that you can live with but pay the price in treatments. How long you can live, I have no idea....I would imagine quite a long time...but I don't know at all.
  15. John Patton on "Shadow of Your Smile"
  16. Dizzy Reece's playing on "Ghost of a Chance" from his Soundin' Off BN recording. Pure soul oozes out of his horn.
  17. Never saw the show, but after hearing all the hoopla upon it's demise it makes me want to see it. Might be a nice DVD thing. That's how I got hooked on the Sopranos. ...what is it about HBO? How come they have ALL the interesting T.V.? I mean, foul language and violence are just byproducts of some of the great shows they have, not the reason they're so great. When are the networks going to wake up and create instead of recycle and emulate?
  18. Don't you want to got get those suckers that caused 9/11?! (Not Osama, the other other guys who caused 9/11 or were going to someday, you know and that tyrant and all). That's enough incentive isn't it? If not, how about a signing bonus of a brand new Ford F150 pickup truch and some compimentary body armour (not just given to every joe).
  19. Hence, this thread.
  20. Thanks Jim....hooked up again.
  21. Her and that band (and many like them that flourished in the 90's and up) are what killed the blues for me.
  22. Called, but they said it was gone. But thanks for the tip Kevin, I was hot on the trail for a moment!
  23. ....thanks....but 35 bucks...ouch!
  24. Didn't know if anyone had a line on where to get this, or if they had a copy they wanted to sell....Thanks....
  25. Then you better stick with "The Sermon"....
