Poll: Yankees Atop the Wild Card
Johnny E replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Frank Robinson is a legend, a baseball institution. But Curt Schilling is still playing. Listen I hate steroids and I agree there should be serious consequences for thier use, but Schilling is just a santimonious blow hard who wants to wag his finger a play the holier than thou role. Just throw the ball and shut up already. -

Jeez, we waited 86 years for as championship, and people are already hating us? ← I don't really hate the Red Sox. I just hate Curt Schilling and his santimonious, right wing, Bush lovin' idiocy. Put a cork in it would ya'? I liked him better when he was on the Phillies. -
Yep!

I just found out that the Rangers will miss Felix Hernandez...who knows, you might get a sweep?
-
I think you're missing the point Al....No place like home (against the M's that is). Home against almost any other team in the game would just be more of the same. The Rangers are almost as bad as the Royals and the Mariners...almost. You're welcome (in advance). Felix on Thursday.

Nothing like a series with the Mariners to turn things around huh Al?
-
I thought it was a bit cheesy and over the top. Don't get me wrong, I think it was a brilliant show and I'm very sad to see it go, but the last 10 minutes just seemed unnecessary. What a great show though huh?

I hope so. Seattle's next on the schedule. Check out Felix Hernandez Al. This 19 year old kid can really pitch. I think he starts wed or thurs.

There will never be another Hunter S. I hope he comes back to earth leading a pack of wild Iraqi War dead spirit berserkers to haunt the miserable remaining days of George W. Bush.

Are you sure it's a bar and not a monolith? -
We'll take some of those big boppers off your hands. One thing I can say about Seattle, the players always love playing here. It's a beautiful part of the country, the fans are in your corner no matter what (this really bugs me being from Philadelphia and all, but that's another topic all together), the new ballpark supposedly has the best club houses in baseball and the media are very docile & unobtrusive. Mark Teixeira would love it here...can he play outfield?
-
Well, let's see. The Rangers are 12.5 games out and the M's are 17.5 games out. Considering that the Rangers were in the hunt just 6 weeks ago, they are REALLY sliding fast and the M's finally brought up 19 year old pitching phenom Felix Hernandez who struke out 11 and lowered his era to 0.86 on Monday...I think you may be on to something. But lets not kid ourselves. The M's are REALLY bad. As bad as you think the rangers are, the M's are still 5 games below them. The teams may be going in different directions right now, but it's been a rough summer here in Seattle.

My last place team is better than your last place team. That Felix hernandez kid is something else ain't he?

Clinton album shows how he likes to be big hitter
Johnny E replied to Johnny E's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Some people just hate Bill Clinton more than they love jazz I guess. -
August 16, 2005 Clinton album shows how he likes to be a big hitter From Tom Baldwin in Washington YOU’VE read the book and you’ve seen the interviews but if you were thinking that there is no more juice to be squeezed out of the Bill Clinton experience, think again. The former President is producing a CD, The Bill Clinton Collection: Selections from the Clinton Music Room. The 11-track compilation goes on sale for $15.95 (£9) next month. Mr Clinton is so taken with the album that he is reported to have been “blasting it” loudly through the open windows of his people carrier as he drives. The William J. Clinton Presidential Foundation, which more usually seeks to present itself as a “focal point in the worldwide battle against HIV-Aids”, has been working quietly away for months to acquire licensing rights to his top songs. The CD does not feature Mr Clinton performing on his beloved saxophone. Instead, he has personally selected jazz and gospel tracks, including My Funny Valentine by Miles Davis and The Town I Loved So Well by Phil Coulter. The CD is being produced for the Clinton Museum Store near the Presidental Library in Little Rock, Arkansas, which has adopted a sharply commercial strategy since opening nine months ago. Revenue is already more than £1 million which, with the proceeds of the CD, will go to fund Mr Clinton’s work on HIV-Aids, economic empowerment, leadership development and ethnic or religious reconciliation. Connie Fails, who runs the store, said yesterday: “I’m so excited. I hope this will become a big hit and be the first in a series of albums.” She disclosed how Mr Clinton had telephoned her after hearing a demo tape to insist that it had the “wrong version” of Chelsea Morning. The album now includes his favourite version of the song after which his daughter, Chelsea, was named. Visitors to the Clinton Presidential Library can see a reproduction of the White House music room, where he was able to pursue one of his ways of relieving the pressure of office by playing the saxophone. The exhibit includes samples from his eclectic CD collection, a video of him playing in the Arkansas All-State Band as a teenager and some of the many musical instruments presented to him during his eight years in power. There is also rock’n’roll memorabilia such as Bono’s handwritten lyrics to The Hands that Built America, a song that the politically active star sang at the library’s dedication in November, a huge portrait of B. B. King, and a whole wall dedicated to Clinton’s childhood idol, Elvis Presley. Jordan Johnson, of the Clinton Foundation, said yesterday that he believed that this was the first time that a president had produced a CD. “But unlike some of his predecessors, music was a very big inspiration for Mr Clinton.” CD TRACKS My One and Only Love, John Coltrane Harlem Nocturne, David Sanborn My Funny Valentine, Miles Davis The Town I Loved So Well, Phil Coulter There Will Never Be Another You, Art Tatum Summertime, Zoot Sims In the Presence of Jehovah, Mickey Mangun Nostalgie, Igor Butman I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free, Nina Simone Take My Hand, Precious Lord, Mahalia Jackson Chelsea Morning, Judy Collins

Rock "solo projects"/"side projects"
Johnny E replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I'd like to bring this thread back up as I missed it all together when it was happening. Here are a few I'd recommend: 'It Is and It Isn't' by Gordon Haskell - ex-King Crimson lead vocalist from 'In the Wake of Poseidon' and 'Lizard'. Very soothing in a melancholic breathy kind of way. UK - with John Wetton, Bill Bruford, Eddie Jobson, and Allan Holdsworth. If you like Crimson, Yes, Elp, etc. you'll love this one, and the other UK records as well. Terry Bozio replaced Bill Bruford on later albums. 'Voyage of the Acolyte' by Steve Hackett - former Genesis guitartist. This is a masterpiece. 'Living in the Material World' by George Harrison - my favorite George record. Simply one of the most heart wrenching record I've ever heard. Blows away anything Paul ever didk after the Beatles broke up. 'Fish Out of water' by Chris Squire - with Bill Bruford, Patrick Moraz and Mel Collins. This is my favorite Yes man solo album. 'Blows Against the Empire' by Paul Kantner - I'd put this record right up to any of the Jefferson Airplane records. It has a 'Crown of Creation' feel, but with David Crosby, Jerry Garcia, Graham Nash, Grace Slick, Mickey Hart, and jack Casady instead of the regular Airplane line-up. Great record. I could go on, but it would take me all day. Maybe more later. -
How about this one:

Maybe, maybe not...I ain't gonna give it away.
