  1. Sansa MP3 player Hank: Another Workout, Booby: Dialogue, Happenings, Oblique (thanks mom!) coming soon far more post x-mas CD's in the mail
  2. I was shocked when I heard the news x-mas morning. JB put such a distinctive and lasting stamp on popular music, it's a shame most ppl my age don't know him outside the "Funky Drummer" sample, "Living in Americs" or "I Got You" (I Feel Good) and man, the JBs were such a hip horn section.
  3. thanks. ordered them both and they will arrive after x-mas.
  4. I am thinking about buying these after x-mas, what do y'all think of these? I heard "French Spice" from "Smoking out Loud" on an WBGO webcast and it was pretty cookin I thought.
  5. happy the surgery went well Jim. As long as you don't pull Keith Jarrett histrionics at the organ your back should be ok!
  6. oh man, that's harsh. I dig Ron's playing too but the intonation stuff really tends to come out on like "Beyond the Blue Horizon" or Tony Williams "Foreign Intrigue" or those Japan only Herbie trio recordings
  7. wow that guy has amazing chops and taste in the groove too!
  8. yes, they are some very odd noises there. I had to get the remastered UK version because the US one just went OOP for some weird reason.
  9. I love this album, but what is up with Carter's wack cello on this? its obviously badly intonated and does not seem to fit always, anyone know whose suggestion it was he play cello on this session?
  10. not sure I have heard 10 but for me: Trio Beyond: Saudades Christian McBride: Live at Tonic--despite mixed reviews, especially because of disc 1 I feel it's his strongest leader date Metheny/Mehldau Kenny Garrett Beyond the Wall reissue of the year: Tony Williams: Mosaic Select
  11. no Trio Beyond, Saudades?
  12. yeah, the music just really reeks. The album starts and ends with the "Blue Note hits a new note" schtick, by the guy who used to do the CBS sports voice overs.
  13. happy b-day McCoy. 68 is relatively young, I thought he was older too
  14. Blue Note Live at the Roxy isn't even worth it, Aric. I have a casette copy from my uncle's vinyl, and its truly one of the worst Blue Note albums I've ever heard. A few good performances, like a couple Ronnie Laws solos on a few tunes but its not even worth spending a $1 dude.
  15. yes, that JOS vid was great!
  16. usually on Columbia sessions back then like Miles', edits are easy to hear. I would just assume that these takes were kept short to get radio time, but theres a lot of stuff packed in 4 minute tunes. I was thinking "Finger Licking Good Soul Organ" (what a dirty sounding title, but thats just me, lol) could be reissued as a Mosaic Single. Its weird just 2 cuts are on the "It's Uptown" reissue.
  17. they don't. "Bullfight" is on "It's Uptown", "The Borgia Stick" is on "Cookbook". Sorry, should have been more clear.
  18. yes indeed. I had that on vinyl as a kid, have a free Rhapsody trial and listened to it on there, hope I get the CD's for x-mas. I would rather have an actual Columbia disc than download ya know, much nicer I think "Uptown" has my most favorite version of "Willow Weep For Me", behind JOS's version, has to be the greaziest for me
  19. from "It's Uptown" yeah its just a modal vehicle but its sooo hip................ I love the way GB just gets off on the groove generated by the drums and Lonnie'svamp. Howabout "The Borgia Stick" while your at it?
  20. wow. Does Quentin still play at all?
  21. that's terrific. Thanks for the article Bertrand. I hope he can find work when he's out. Aren't he and Quentin Warren related?
  22. yes, that is a great album, as is "Paradox", and "Holding Together" one of Bob Berg's final recordings.
  23. this album is burning! Check out how out So What and Walkin get, I also like how on the CD label they duplicate the Japanese CBS/Sony design.
