Waiting for the new season to start. In the meantime, I've been catching up on Z-Rock; about a struggling metal band that plays parties for kids to make ends meet.

Among all the great moments, the one that always comes up first in my mind is the opening to Ko-Ko from the Blanton/Webster band. Those roaring low Eb's, with that huge, warm vibrato!

I don't have anything to add to the Dufay discussion. But I'd like to welcome MomsMobley to the forum, and say what a fantastic screen name that is!

Oh, I'm sure it will happen. As I understand it, PT donates the smashed guitars for various charities to auction off. He has commented that the value of the guitar increases dramatically as soon as it becomes "As-Smashed-By-Pete-Townshend." But, yeah, the whole prospect of that show is disheartening. Edit to add: HEY, that's my 1,000th post!!!

I was saddened to hear this yesterday. I didn't get into Parker and the Spenser novels until about ten or twelve years ago, but since then I think I've read them all. Fun diversions. It was interesting to move my way backwards in the line of books. The first ones I read were from the '90s, then I stumbled on a stack of the first several from the '70s at a church book sale. I think I got 'em for 25 cents each. Spenser of the 1970's was a friskier dude. Nailing chicks right and left (including doing a 40-something mom, and then the 20-something daughter later the same day!), and punching more guys out "just because". As the series progressed, there were fewer encounters in the bedroom, and more detailed cooking scenes in the kitchen. RIP and thanks for the stories!

Tough times for orchestras at all levels these days, I guess. The New Mexico Symphony's contract expired last August, and they went through round after round of negotiations, canceling most of the fall season. The players ended up taking more than a 25% pay cut, and these are musicians who weren't making anywhere near even half of what Cleveland players make.

Maybe it was Count Down. So, it just occurred to me that Coltrane did record at least one Basie tune: "Good Bait" on the album Soultrane (Basie gets co-composer credit with Tadd Dameron). Any other examples? Did Basie ever record any Trane tunes?

Not to pick a nit, but, since the article was originally published in 1960, I'm guessing it was an LP.

Good luck on your search. You've gotten some good advice already in this thread. When you're ready to upgrade to a fancy schmanzy bass, you can check out Robertson's here in Albuquerque. Folks come from all over the world to check out their inventory of basses (and other stringed instruments). They don't list the prices of their super high-end basses online, but there are several over $100,000!!! I believe they have some "famous" instruments, such as basses owned by Al McKibbon and Eugene Wright.

Looking forward to seeing this: 1. I'm a Bridges fan. 2. Looks like a good story, well told. 3. Filmed here in NM. 4. A buddy of mine appears as the bass player in a couple of scenes!
