  1. I bought the set as a curiosity, and it far exceeded my expectations. Not just "country-rock", there are a lot of other things going on, and the musicianship and writing are very good. Well worth checking out.
  2. Lenox Avenue... is the most essential leader date he ever did IMO, and is included. Carpe dium.
  3. Take out the master takes, which we already own, and there is about 2 CD's worth of rehearsal tapes on there. I'm not paying anywhere near $35 for that. That was what I meant about "price point". I've been "in" on the previous sets, but this is different.
  4. Not familiar with them. What are some youtube cuts that are good intros?
  5. This is something I'd like to hear once, so there is a price point I am in/out at.
  6. Best reasonable offer in sale or trade. Four CD's of 2001 live recordings, held in a box hand-designed, hand-painted, and signed by Silva. PM if interested.
  7. He was born in 1921, so in his mid-30's by 1957. And he lived to be 92-93, so maybe didn't beat up his body too much.
  8. I also especially liked him on baritone.
  9. 4 CD box set in great condition. $40 shipped in USA or best reasonable offer or agreeble trade. PM if interested.
  10. And a set with the Savoy Post-bop stray stuff like Valdo Williams, Charles Moffett, and Marzette Watts. Actually, I guess a lot of that was produced by Dixon, along with the Dixon/Shepp sides. I'd jump on a box like that.
  11. And there can be some value in that. But the days of being amazed at Mosaic are long gone. Nothing ever again on their label will match the excitement of something like the original Larry Young box or Grant Green box, with wonderful music I had heard about but never actually heard. Older and wiser.
  12. Fascinating career, and seems like a life well-lived. 83 years old. I first heard him on the Elvin Jones "Illuminations" album when I picked that up out of a cutout bin at Woolworth's as a new listener, and I was hooked on him from his two features on that.
  13. And I probably have most of it on the various CD issues, but this may be the best way to have it all going forward. Would likely clear out a lot of shelf space. Will really have to give it some thought. This would have been awesome 20-25 years ago.
  14. Exactly where I am except that I sold the Young Mosaic (twice!), and live without 'Heaven on Earth', but keep hoping. Really surprised the recent Japanese series didn't include it.
  15. Wayne-less and likely compositionally challenged, for sure. I loved Vitous' and Eric Gravatt's work with the group, but it wouldn't have been Weather Report without Zawinul, it would have been something very different and likely very less, as evidenced by his work as a leader later in the decade.
  16. Went through them. The usual suspects. And still no Larry Young "Heaven on Earth".
  17. I do.
  18. I find the Savoys stronger than the Blue Notes for him.
  19. When I go to open the "Complete Nocturne" recordings thread in the "reissues" forum, I get a warning that I am going to a malware site.
  20. Like new condition. $15 shipped in USA or best reasonable offer in cash or trade for CD's.
  21. Which ones are you looking for at this point?
  22. Things that are not bottomless: income, shelf space, listening time, patience/indulgence of significant others...
  23. See my June 29 post.
