    Ebo Taylor RIP

I got to see Towner in duet with Gary Burton at a free outdoor concert at Penn's Landing in the late 80's - superb.
  2. The music on this 4 CD set has aged marvelously.
  3. I would love t I would love to have seen/heard this. To me, Cacavas was the secret sauce that made Green on Red stand out, and I was a big fan of their work with him ,and of Dream Syndicate. And Cacavas's solo albums are very interesting indeed (much more so than what Green on Red did without him).
  4. Good point. I think I only have three copies of the original 'A Love Supreme' on my shelves (Complete Quartet box, complete Impulse Albums box, expanded version with the Shepp/Davis outtakes and the Antibes live ALS).
  5. The Yusef is an automatic "yes" for me, can't wait! Not so sure on the Waldron - I'm less intrigued by the idea of 1979 Waldron and 1979 Stitt together, though that part is only seven minutes . The bigger concern is an (almost) all standards program with a pickup rhythm section - doesn't sound overly inspiring, though I realize lightning sometimes strikes these sorts of things. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
  6. As is their CD version. I'll stick with that.
  7. All five albums jammed into three glorious CD's, surprisingly good sound quality. Great fun.
  8. Thanks. I have those Kenny Cox albums with Spencer (though I couldn't have named him), but nothing Rodby shows as playing on (though I do have some of the Eliane Elias albums where he has production credits). Yeah, I much prefer 1978 Joe Henderson to his "popular" years on Verve. And I agree with you on Brackeen, who is such a strong pianist.
  9. And by a bass player I've never heard off. But I'm also all in anyways! The bigger fear for me is the drum solos.
  10. No non-USA sellers are good options for us right now due to tariff craziness on top of already greatly increased shipping costs. I used to order from JazzMessengers fairly regularly several years ago - they do a great job and had excellent prices.
  11. Depends what's on the tapes, sound quality wise and complete vs. partial performances. I could see getting tons of this or none of it, am very much in wait and see (hear) mode. I never sprang for the Parker Benedetti box, and found the Parker Prestige sides on 'Bird on 52nd Street' and 'Bird at St. Nicks' unlistenable.. If I was a musician, I could see feeling differently, but I'm a listener/consumer with limited amounts of money/listening time/shelf space to invest, and, like almost all of us, I'm hardly lacking for Coltrane material. +1 I'd be shocked if this stuff was rolled out on any label other than Impulse, especially given that they are the ones releasing the RSD album.
  12. They are my #1 source of purchases by a long shot. Probably half the discs that come into my house are from them, a big box comes my way from them every six weeks or so.
  13. That's my take on it.
  14. thanks, just ordered this. Thanks all for the info. Great community here!
  15. +1 on both counts.
  16. This is 4 LP's and includes July 26/27/28, but we will need to see more details to know what it actually adds. And it's moot for me if there is no CD issue.
  17. And dead center in mine!
  18. Count me in for eventual CD releases of the Henderson (with Joanne Brackeen ❤️), the Ahmad Jamal Jazz Showcase, and the wonderful looking early live Terry Callier. The Jamal Oil Can Harry's is a really good record, and a rare instance to hear Calvin Keys. I have the Japanese CD already. Has that complete Coltrane in France been available before? I know the performance of "A Love Supreme" was on the expanded Impulse reissue.
  19. Thanks, all.
  20. Thanks! No easy answers...
  21. Also look forward to the Lake. What's the best USA seller to order these from?
  22. RIP, he was the singer I really liked in that group.
  23. BFT 263 1 – This is a really interesting track, I like it quite a bit, and can’t wait to find out what it is. No ideas on ID’s. 2 – Joni Mitchell (which hopefully will fool no one), “Black Crow”. A live version with, sounds like, Brecker and Jaco. The original was on ‘Hejira’. Is this from the Archives 4 box set that came out? I can probably sleuth it out if so. It’s good. 3 – I like that they use acoustic piano on this. The guitarist is impressive. But the cut leaves me fairly cold, though it’s OK. 4 – Quite the eclectic BFT, I’m enjoying that aspect! They had more fun recording this than I’m having listening to it, the first clunker for me, though there are probably others who will dig it. I saw it’s only four minutes long, but it felt much longer. 5 – Antidote to #4. It’s good, and it’s pretty, though not something that would pull me back. Could almost be a Windham Hill artist. Deeply influenced by those initial Keith Jarrett ECM solo albums, as so many are. 6 – This will be Dan Gould’s favorite cut. I like it OK. Functions great as background music for me, I don’t hear any barriers being broken, but am enjoying it. 7 – I’m enjoying this! No guesses, but good singer, and I could see a whole album by her possibly working for me. 8 - Good listening, quite enjoyable! Can’t see anyone disliking this, it’s so solid. 9 – A Cole Porter oldie done by one of the most celebrated jazz singers. Cut #5 from this . 10 – Good for what it is, but from before my listening domain. 11 – She was a great, sadly undersung jazz singer, one of my all-time favorites! Cut #6 from this . 12 – This sort of thing is totally lost on me. 13 – This is nice, very soothing. Good arrangement. Thanks for a really good listen and for drawing attention to the singer on #11, I am excited to get the ID on that first cut!
  24. I favor a hard salary cap in MLB (both ceiling and floor) based on negotiated % of league revenue, even though my local team (Phillies) is one of the bigger spenders. With the difference in local income streams, teams like the Pirates, Royals, Indians, Reds, Twins, Brewers, Rays have little to no shot at competing with the big boys, even though some of those teams (Indians and Brewers come to mind) are run extraordinarily well. I like how it works in the NFL, where GM skill is integral (makes me very thankful for Howie Rosen!). It doesn't take a genius to go spend $2 billion on the best FA's money can buy.
  25. The best seats would have cost you $4.80! That's about $48 in 2026 dollars. A great bargain for that bill. But I have to say, the idea of listening to an extended version of the creepy "Om" by that entourage somewhat scares me, though I'd certainly be down for the 35 minute "My Favorite Things".
