I haven´t ever seen him live, but from what I´ve heard on record, I rate him as one of the nowadays tenor sax true giants.

How Long Has Jazz Been In Your Ears?
EKE BBB replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I think you made a very good point here, Bev. We all take Jazz too seriously many times (trying to define it, analyze it....), forgetting that it´s all about ENJOYING THE MUSIC. -
Great choice! Here´s the cover: =================== EDITED to add a bigger cover
-
According to jazzmatazz, it hasn´t: The Dizzy Gillespie Quintet with Charlie Parker - TBD (Uptown) Spring 2004 — previously unreleased 1945 Town Hall performance! — with Al Haig, Curley Russell & Max Roach — from acetates discovered in a flea market!
-
I´ve planned to put the discs going to USA on the mail tomorrow.
-
Thanks, D.D. I´ll put them on my ever growing wish-list.

ON THE EDIT: Just answered my own question: it does. Thanks, Chaney! Don´t you think the new Brötzmann disc is a bit hard for the virginal creature I am? B)

What have you learned from being on this forum?
EKE BBB replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Forums Discussion
I´ve really learned a lot being on this forum. I´ve discovered new artists, new styles, new recordings.... My jazz tastes have been widely broadened. This board´s the best way to keep you updated on what´s goin´ on in jazz (magazines are always one or two months behind) and it´s a lively and enriching discussion among all kind of people (musicians, producers, critics, collectors, scholars, simple aficionados.... ) about ANY jazz matter you can think of. I owe you a lot, guys! -

You all make me feel so young... ...and ignorant! -
Yeah, Ayler´s music would be good as a lullaby ...with my youngest son´s cries as a counterpoint

You know I´m an old-fashioned swing lover, Flurin, but I try to enlarge my ears, even with NOIZE!!!

You´ll be missed here. Wish you the best. Agustín

Great, mike!

Flurin, you were the "baby in jazz" guy! Man, at 13 I was a bit of a pop-sinister (Echo & the Bunnymen, the Cure, the Smiths, Joy Division, Siouxsie, Psychedelic Furs...) trying to leave that stuff apart, taking my time with 60´s and 70´s rock and hard-rock.... and starting with the blues, which leaded me to jazz... Wish I had started with jazz before. -

First post in this thread. I think I´ll be able to read it through in a couple of years, if only to practise my English reading..... and to learn a bit about free jazz from you, crazy FREE-zealots ) Don´t know if it has been mentioned before, but FWIW I´ve just seen at jazzmatazz that there are two upcoming Peter Brötzmann releases: NEW Brötzmann Clarinet Project - Berlin DJungle (Atavistic Unheard Music Series 246/FMP Archive Edition) July 27 — six clarinetists: Peter Brotzmann, John Zorn, Tony Coe, Ernst-Ludwig Petrowsky, Louis Sclavis and J.D. Parrin — plus Tony Oxley: drums, William Parker: bass, Toshinori Kondo: trumpet, Johannes Bauer and Alan Tomlinson: trombones — recorded at JazzFest Berlin 1984 NEW Peter Brötzmann - Medicina (Atavistic 149) Sept 14 — new trio recording Great thread, guys! 24 members have signed so far. Special thanks to all those who offered to cooperate distributing the discs. I´ll do it for myself. I´d like to know as soon as possible if the people who lives in distant places (White Lightning, marcoliv, dutchmanx... anyone more???) will join the BFT#13, in order to send them the discs early this week. Thanks! EDIT: mmilovan, dutchmanx, White Lightning and marcoliv have been included in the list

First of all, thanks to Daniel A for putting together a very nice collection of music. I have really enjoyed this BFT... not many guesses, though! B) 1.- It´s Dizzy Gillespie´s Afro-Cuban "Manteca", but I have no idea of who´s playing. 2.- "Have you met Miss Jones?" (R. Rodgers/L. Hart). My first idea was Teddy Wilson, but it isn´t. The pianist is somebody with a "classic swing" heart, but maybe a bit more modern (50´s ???) 3.- This ensemble was easily recognizable. One of my favorite trumpet players with a wonderful quintet! Track 2 of THIS DISC 4.- "Poinciana", I think. No clue on the pianist. Good one! 5.- A good trumpet player who turned into a pop/funk/soul player later in his life. This is track 28 from this MOSAIC 6.- "This could be the start of something..." My wild guess is that Canadian pianist who was called "the little Art Tatum", but I´m not very convinced and can´t give a recording date. Not sure, really. 7.- Good combination of tenor sax, trombone and piano. Like it! 8.- Hancock´s "Maiden voyage". No clue on who´s playing. 9.- I don´t like that soprano, no, I don´t. 10.- CTI???. I can´t dig electric piano and this style of "sound", actually, so this track´s not my kind of stuff. 11.- Soprano plus alto? This song looks like never takes off. 12.- "I cover the waterfront". Who on hell is singing? The vocals in the introduction reminded me of Björk but she hasn´t done, AFAIK, this kind of stuff. No, it´s not her!!! 13.- but no clue 14.- "Here´s that rainy day" (Burke / Van Heusen) 15.- Funny way to end this nice BFT. A rehearsal of a tune I should know, but I don´t! Thanks again, Daniel. Really expectant to know the answers for some of the tracks, specially 2, 4, 7 and 13.

Is that I didn´t understand Hardbop´s post, or was he trying to make fun out of it?

Hi all! Though Daniel A hasn´t started his BFT#12 Discussion Thread, I thought I should start this Sign-Up thread for BFT#13, just to have all the participants´ addresses soon, as my schedule for summer is very tight and probably I´ll be out for the last two weeks of July. I´ve planned to send the discs (that I´ve already burnt) to faraway destinations earlier, to see if you can receive the discs at a similar time. BFT#13 will consist on two discs, one official BFT disc (14 tracks) and one bonus disc (11 tracks). I tried to constrain to one single disc, but it would have been too hard to keep away from so many wonderful sides.... B) (I gathered stuff for three or four CDs, really) Please PM me with your complete address to join this list, that I will be updating. Bold letters will mean the discs have already been sent. XXX means this participant has announced he has received the discs Already signed: XXX MartyJazz XXX brownie XXX tooter XXX Dan Gould XXX king ubu XXX Man with the Golden Arm XXX tjobbe Jim Dye XXX Noj take5 XXX catesta XXX mikeweil John B XXX Big Al XXX couw XXX sidewinder XXX Saxophone Vagina XXX Bright Moments XXX Jim R XXX Eloe Omoe XXX dutchmanx marcoliv XXX Peter Johnson mmilovan XXX randyhersom Stefan Wood XXX White Lightning XXX Nate Dorward XXX RDK XXX billyboy XXX deus62 patricia jazzkrow PS: Of course I will not interfere in BFT#12.
