  1. Chuck, you stop smoking and that weight goes right up again! Back to JSP, I have a Louis Jordan set that is teriffic. Mastering is great, but now I wonder if any of it came from the Bear Family set.
  2. It has been mentioned that he keeps talking about reissuing old material, or doing new stuff, but he hasn't gotten around to doing it.
  3. Well.......we'll see! I do like his swinging stuff. I heard the material from the Reprise set and it kind of left me cold. It'll kill my wallet if I go hog wild on getting all his cds!
  4. Okay, I'm getting all three. Looks like I am warming up to Ellington, after all these years of "not getting it." Though I always loved his late 20's - early 30's material..... and Jazz Party!
  5. How is the Festival cd? Is it anything like Jazz Party?
  6. This is an excellent cd -- I loved Horton's first cd on Omnitone, but this shows a lot of growth and expanding on the music from the previous cd. Working with Andrew Hill must do wonders for his compositional skills.
  7. There are a lot of good things in this box set: more solo material that came from sessions that led to his first cd on American, his recordings with Tom Petty, Nick Cave, and especially Carl Perkins! and his disc of gospel material. Sure, with something of this size there are a few duds, I don't like that the 5th disc is a "best of" set, when that could have been sold separately. Anyone who buys this set is already a Cash fanatic, so I think it is redundant.
  8. Sometimes scouring half.com is good. I picked up a copy, still sealed, for $34.99.
  9. For the Japanese Blues Notes, there is a time frame where they are available -- it is indicated on the cd or the obi strip. I can't remember for how long, about 2 years? The American Verve elite series operates this way. But as for a number produced, I don't know.
  10. Looking for a cdr copy of this lp. Please PM.
  11. Still having problems with PM, but I received your response, and I will send you a check. Thanks!
  12. Hey I HAVE seen him outside the confines of the political environment once in a while. I think it starts around 7 pm? This isn't the Twins on 14th and U, this is the old Location, on Columbia Road.
  13. I sent PM and email. Neither seem to work? Let me know if you received either. I'm interested.
  14. The seller claims that the sound quality "to his ears" sounds better than the RCA box. Interesting.......... and probably not true.
  15. Trudy Pitts/Pat Martino Johnny Hammond Smith Rusty Bryant vol 2 Pucho and the Latin Soul Brothers Ivan Boogaloo Jones Ivan Boogaloo Jones vol 2 Idris Muhammad and another organ player whose name escapes me Don't forget Fantasy has issued a lot of cds after this series that are basically more of the same, just without the "Acid Jazz" label.
  16. I have a copy of Soul Connection. This SHOULD be on cd, but it isn't. A fabulous pairing of Grachan Moncur and John Patton -- all the tracks burn!! It is easily one of his best sessions.
  17. I have some of the cds, but I will definitely buy this set! Thanks for the info!
  18. Is this an official MCA Universal release? Or from the Dagger label?
  19. I should bop you all collectively over the head with the metal spine. As long as the music still is available, that is what is most important. Sheesh!
  20. Etc is just brilliant. It's the one I listen to most often.
  21. I believe that came out on cd as well. I'll have to check at home.... Vol 1 and 2 were issued on cd, in the early 90's. First one was a blue cover, the Cachao was a pink cover.
  22. This is essential for everyone who loves latin music. I always come back to playing these cds.
  23. Scavenger, eh Weizen? I have staples from the Buddy DeFranco/Sonny Clark booklet that I can swap......
