  1. To heck with that, I'm going after the Rufus Thomas "Funkiest Man Alive" compilation. I'll be doing the Funky Chicken on the way to the cash register............
  2. I'm not sure what you're saying. The guy could have bid $4.99, or .01, or $8.98 and the Buy It Now option would have disappeared. The seller should have placed a higher minimum starting bid if he wanted to get the money he asked for.
  3. On ebay: A lot of Alice Coltrane Impulses, John Patton's "That Certain Feeling," John Coltrane Savoy, Richard Williams Candid, Yma Sumac 10" lps, more!
  4. Sold, now just check out the ebay stuff. Look for kinggab as seller. Jeez, I'm settling next week!!!
  5. The Andrew Hills were listed as "Available" when I placed the order.
  6. I'm halfway through this book, and while I find many parts illuminating (even if they were drawn from other texts), it is the combination of social, economic, and political issues that make this book work for me so far. I agree that I don't know why (nor have I yet found his explanation) he left out blues, jazz etc., my guess is he feels that gospel needs to be addressed more as an influence on popular music than has been allowed. I haven't read the Sam Cook bio, yet Kempton's interpretation doesn't offend me the way other researchers who try to "get in the minds of their subjects" do.
  7. The Andrew Hills are also listed as not available. This is the fourth time this has happened. I don't know why they bother to list them in the sale.
  8. ......Especially when he has a seemingly decent copy of Sun Ra's "Space is the Place" on Blue Thumb for $10.
  9. NOS is fine -- I have Mullards on my power amp, but I am seriously looking at the new Ei tubes, which are made using the same equipment and specs as the old Phillips tubes, which I have used and are also very good. Ei has been getting positive reviews for their sound quality and pricing. I refuse to believe that NOS is the only way to go, especially with more people getting into tube equipment.
  10. I ordered the Andrew Hills, Bill Dixon/Tony Oxley, Dave Douglas, Ed Blackwell and the Rivers/Holland vol 2 before my wallet imploded...........
  11. Get em while they're available. www.cybermusicsurplus.com I threw in my chump change at their store -- I hope I get all that I asked for......
  12. up for new stuff added New, as of 8/6/03: I have a two 2 cd set of Dutch Nederbeat music, the B sides singles, released last year on Hunter Music, from the 60's. Each set has 50 tracks, and contains psychedelic music, beat, garage punk, etc., by groups like the Q65, the Outsiders, Les Baroques, and others. I'm selling the whole sha-bang for 35 dollars. Please PM me if interested.
  13. That Jimmy Scott lp has been reissued on cd by Rhino, in their Handmade limited edtion cd department. I bought it for my dad on his birthday and it is gorgeous!
  14. Picked this one up today. This is one of those groups that swept everyone aside and established a new order of music. Living in DC for most of my life, these guys were and still are the gods of the local music scene, despite the craziness of HR and the loss of their band name, however they managed that? Anyways, this is a real kick ass compilation. It has all their best known tunes, remastered (??? from vinyl, I guess Caroline no longer has master tapes?) and all. It's cloudy, humid and gloomy here at work today, and this has definitely lifted my spirits. 22 tracks, pulled from all the Caroline issued albums, including the Rock for Light lp, and their very first, with the lighning bolt striking the Capitol building. The reggae material (w/ i and I Survive, The Phrophet's Squad, I Lov I Jah, etc) are at the end of the disc. Almost 80 minutes, which might fry some people's minds. And a video!
  15. The Bill Evans has been sold.
  16. New York Dolls - Collection (Universal) Jackie McLean - Hipnosis session (Blue Note) Annie Lennox - Bare Jimmy Smith - Complete February 1957 Sessions, disc 1 (Mosaic) Fu Manchu - California Crossing (Mammoth) Miles Davis - Walkin' (Fantasy remaster) Eclectic!
  17. It seems like the same album repeated three times, different takes and all. All I can say is..... huh? But really, what is up with a deluxe version of the Diana Ross album? Is this the one where she does a heavy metal tune?
  18. How did they sneak a Blind Willie Johnson recording onto the Voyager list? I guess there is no heavy duty R&B or rock n roll cause that might be grounds for invasion.
  19. The phone, of course. We live in the same city.
  20. Wassermarrer, the flute too fruity for you????
  21. It has that nice lightly rusted look....
  22. New, updated list coming shortly. In the meantime, I have a bunch of stuff on ebay for your perusal. Some Sun Ra Impulses, etc. Thanks
  23. Why not a Mosaic Select with him and some other artist?
