D-link has a pretty good customer srvc. Giving them a call is a better alternative than spending time trying to fix a problem on your own, imo.

I'm running a 60wpc 40+ y.o. tube receiver and it gets mighty hot. It's my 3rd tube amp, so obvioulsy I'm not complaining, but I'm thinking of putting in a silent fan to cool it.

My first instinct when I saw the photo of the labels was, "Hmm, this looks like a Jazztone label artwork." The same designer must've created the labels for this LP.

Lee Morgan - Take Twelve Phineas newborn, Jr - Newborn Touch Both 1980s reissues. My first time playing the Lee disc. Nothing jaw-dropping, but has Lee ever made a bad album?! Newborn Touch...well, Phineas was genius.

Shorty Rogers and Bud Shank - Back Again, on Choice Records, a 1984 UK recording that is sadly not on cd, but deserves to be. Shank and Rogers are backed by a British big band under the helm of Vic Lewis. Side A is a studio date featuring a Bill Holman's tune titled Shorty and a 4-part 20 minute long suite by Shorty Rogers auspiciously christened 'Bud Shank'. Side B is a live recording of the same band, with Shank doing much of the soloing. Wonderful playing from Shank and Rogers, especially Shank, very good arrangements by Bill Holman and as an added bonus Kenny Clarke's presence on the drums. I believe this is one of the last Shank albums featuring his flute playing, and perhaps one of the last Klook recordings as well, if not the last.

La Marchal is long gone. It was located on Nostrand Avenue corner of President Street, in Crown Heights. Someone should do a book on the forgotten jazz joints of New York. I wish I could...alas, no talent.

Hi, The one with Benny Carter is the only one have. What I love about vinyl is that horizons can be widened for as little as $1 or $2; that's how much I paid for my copy. I'll be on the look-out for more. Totally agree with you, great music and great sound!

FS:Young Men From Memphis - Down Home Reunion LP
Dmitry replied to Dmitry's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Brownie, good call on the possible differences in track lengths! I'm at work now, but I will post the playing times on my Mono copy when I get home. -
Young Men From Memphis - Down Home Reunion Original Mono deep groove white label promo, United Artists UAL 4029, recorded in late 1958 or early 1959. Cover - upper seam split the length, couple of lines of text discreetly highligted in yellow marker on the back, otherwise clear. Let's call it VG, to be strict. Record - clean labels, minor surface noise here and there, 3 or 4 clicks on each side. Therefore VG(+). Cleaned on my record cleaning machine. Interesting thing about this LP is that stereo and mono versions have different takes [side B, I believe, but I welcome corrections]. Stereo version came out on a Japanese cd[i've never seen it], mono will probably never be reissued. Booker Little, Louis Smith (tp) Frank Strozier (as) George Coleman (ts) Phineas Newborn Jr. (p) [my main man!] Calvin Newborn (g) George Joyner (bass) Charles Crosby (d) A1 Things Ain't What They Used to Be A2 Blue 'n' Boogie B1 After Hours B2 Star Eyes Not to tout my own horn here, but as collectors know it's one rare LP. Music is wonderful, superb, outstanding, take it from me. Obviously all musicians hail from Memphis... $40 + $3 insured shipping. Check or paypal[bank draft only].

Being interested in music and sound, I put music first. Sound is the servant. ... The point I want to make is "electronics should be used in the service of music"! It is too easy for some to reverse this order and lose perspective. If you have not recently won the lottery, or scammed unbelievable bucks from elsewhere, buy more music. Chuck, let me put it this way - my music collection easily cost me 10x more than I paid for my stereo components. I am by no means a gear-head but for me a decent stereo set-up is an important necessity to appreciate the music to its fullest.

Thanks for the web address. Looks like only a couple of Nine Winds LPs were issued on cd. On top of that, they no longer sell LPs. Used to sell them for $7 per not too long ago. Imo that means it would be a good idea to pick up those records; odds are they're not going to be reissued any time soon. I hope I'm wrong. Now back to the black gold - Oscar Peterson - The Personal Touch, on Pablo. Not my cuppa tee, so in the "for sale/trade" pile it goes. Oregon - Distant Hills, on Vaguard. A perfect album to accompany one on the journey into the land of Zzzzzzz's. Which is what I shall do presently.
-
John Rapson - Bu-Wah, on Nine Winds A minor gem, imo. Good avant-garde wasn't just coming from NY in the 80s, you know. What's the story w/the Nine Winds LPs, have any been reissued on cd?
-
Sam Rivers - Streams My first time listening to this *document*. Superb!!! Major connections between Sam and Ornette here, imo. Just out of curiosity, does the cd feature the beautiful photos that are inside the orig. gatefold cover?

Claude Tissendier - Saxomania featuring Benny Carter, on Ida.

Emily Remler - Transitions Even though I have read about Remler, tonight was my first exposure to her music. I really enjoyed this record. Spun it twice tonight and will be on the look-out for her other stuff.
-
Alvin Queen - Jammin' Uptown, on Nilva. This one is going into the "for sale" pile.
-
Young Men From Memphis - Down Home Reunion - orig. white label promo mono lp [different takes than the stereo version, on side B, I think]. What an awesome band! I love that record.

I guess you lucked out on this one, man. My father used to have hundreds of these Melodiya LPs, as there was not much of a choice in the old USSR, and I remember they sounded blah. Considering that our turntable was no picnic either, no surprise it sounds fine on your rig. Angel licenced a lot of their classical stuff in the States, and those sound better than the original Melodiyas. I bet yours doesn't have the original cover, but some kind of collage. Haven't heard any of their LPs in years. I might still have some sitting at my parents house.
-
Heck, I'd have the originals at that price too. If anyone can point me where the original Rivers BNs can be had for $30 per record, I'm there.
-
Melodiya was the Soviet record label, State-run[as everything else]. The sound quality ranged from really bad to terrible. Lots of distortion, lots of surface noise, sucky vinyl.
-
That's $60 per LP.
-
Gone. $140 + $20 for shipping makes it $32 per LP. Still a good deal, I think. Those Rivers Mosaic LPs sound much better than the corresponding cds.

Is this another poll? Do hi-fi and music automatically exclude one another? Here comes Chuck to wreck his wrath onto a small group of gear-heads. Hide your remote controls.
