  1. Don't forget a GI, a cop, an Indian Chief, a construction worker, a sailor, a leatherman and a cowboy.
  2. You guys are cracking me up. They do sound better than the corresponding cds, you know. At least I think so. Do I detect a little snobism? Can't wait for you to start dumping your bad Mosaic digital vinyl.
  3. Someone had told me that before early 90s most Mosaic Lp sets were digitally mastered. I can't vouch that this information is true.
  4. AND he was Sharon Stone's cousin! This guy had some life! He would be best played on small screen by James Brolin, I think.
  5. Ahh, the subtle advertising. You noticed it as well. Another track that was really a commercial jingle for Parker Pens was Dexterity.
  6. Miles didn't like anybody else who was successful. Monk just needed to take a leak.
  7. A sole heir to the famous English Parker Pen empire he was disavowed by his father, Lord Parker for failure to endorse the Parker products during his JATP performances.
  8. He is Sharon Stone's cousin.
  9. T, it was me. Had some loose Mosaic cds I decided to let go. Guys, I'm very grateful for the cd-r offers, and I will probably end up coming back to you, but I was really hoping someone had the split sets they'd part with.
  10. T-Bone Walker discs 5,6 Hall, Johnson, De Paris, Dickenson disc 1 Chaloff discs 3,4 George Lewis disc 2 A shot in the dark, but who knows ..
  11. Actually it's The Moffett Family Jazz Band. Yes, it's *that* Moffett family; with Ornette and Sonny Simmons connections. Pretty neat music. Perhaps I'll include a cut on my bft disk. So the Venus vinyl releases are in good sound, looks like. I only have this one cd.
  12. I know what you mean. Stopped at a yard sale today. Guy had a box of records. His price for this incredibly common 2Lp set - $40.
  13. Two cds that haven't been mentioned yet and absolutely deserve to be heard, imo - Charlie Haden & The Liberation Music Orchestra / Dream Keeper Sonny Fortune / Four In One
  14. As of 08/19/2004 there are 37 Teddy Wilson cd sets left and 45 Lp sets.
  15. Search the Washington Post on-line archive. A couple of months ago there was a very very long article on the protagonists of the Hoop Dreams. It'll answer all of your questions, and more.
  16. Oscar Peterson Trio + One Clark Terry Forgot how good this record was.
  17. Anyone know what's the skinny on this one? Is it still on? Who did the mastering, who wrote the liners? It has got to have some awesome photos. Can't wait to get it.
  18. Up for more exposure before I put it up on eBay. Surprised it gathered no bites. I thought it'd be gone pronto.
  19. I don't know if audience shouts were English or French, but the recording sure is surprisingly good Mono.
  20. That's what I tell my wife. It's going to take the kid through college in 16 years. Like I'm going to sell them. State school, baby! The Japanese Lp certainly doesn't suck. I haven't heard the originals, but this 200 gm. JVC it's plenty sufficient for this middle-class guy.
  21. That's no Free Jazz, friend.
  22. I bet my Japanese Lp sounds just as good. Anyone buy these for investing?
  23. Proceeded to do so today and very grateful for the kicks in the behind. It would've been gone in a few days for sure. What can I say. It's a must have for anyone who wants to be a Rollins fan. A very satisfying and revealing performance. Have you noticed how he weaves St.Thomas into Lady Bird? This is probably the best live Sonny I've heard. Those tales about his amazing live preformances must be true. Does the tape from his San remo performance of the same year exist? Guy, in the beginning there are shouts from the French audience. What are they shouting? Liner notes list Henry Grimes as 1935-1984...cat's got 10 lives. In the end, Sonny says Je suis fatigué. Pretty symbolic.
  24. Thanks for the write-up, Bill. 50s Decca jazz Lps pop up infrequently on the used scene, in my case. Those I see usually look like crap and probably sound just as bad. A lot of them were probably trashed fast and people just threw them away. Same goes for the Debut 10'' and Transition Lps. I see them very infrequently. I remember seeing a John Dennis with Mingus and Roach record in fair condition for like $80 at a record convention. Now I know why. Japanese vinyl helps, though!
