  1. Check out Aleksandr Pushkin, Russia's greatest poet.
  2. Satchmo letters went for more then a song. Way more. $14,500 for 17 documents, was it? In the words of another immortal musician, "I guess I'm famous. Ain't that a bitch." Draw your own conclusions, friends.
  3. I better stay away from this till I watch tonight's episode's rerun.Tomorrow night , is it? I was so eager to run out of the house to hear Randy Weston that it totally slipped my mind to program the vcr. Tony vs. Randy...the big man won.
  4. I'm talking in-dash.
  5. That's it. No more. Basta. E finita la commedia. Now I know *for sure* where those faint scratches come from. From now on - CD-Rs only. Easy come, easy go. What do they run now, like a quarter a pop?
  6. Actually, I've all but stopped participating because I missed a couple of discussions and don't want to be on anyone's shit list. Rightfully so. Still got the dibs on BFT #22, though.
  7. Sad story. A major player. Seen him many times in different bands around NY. If nothing interferes I'll be at the Sweet Rhythm[formerly Sweet Basil].
  8. There's someone selling this 2-fer on Amazon for $140. Bizarre prices on Amazon marketplace. I routinely see Verve Elites for $100-200. I wonder if anyone takes that hook... I'll be on the look-out for this one now.
  9. I've neither heard nor seen this one. Good shtuff? Kenny Garrett is on it as well.
  10. That certainly explains why Tony's teeth started falling out...
  11. I think you're misunderstanding me. All I'm saying is that a true test would need to be conducted on an identical CD player (be it the same player or another just like it). That's all.... I dunno...my aural memory is good enough to lock in how one cd sounds, at least long enough for me to run to the cd player and put another one in. But theoretically you're right, of course.
  12. Most of the time the differences between cds are such that it really matters little what 2 cd players you use to compare. I still don't understand the reasoning behind having 2 players to compare 2 cds. 1 player-2 cds seems sufficient to decide which sounds better to my ears.
  13. damn! that's why I pause to stare at that avatar painting time and again... You're getting relaxed, you're getting relaxed..... Your eyes are closing, you feel nice and sleepy..... Now, get up and slowly walk to your cd rack, remove 10 random tocjs and slowly put them in a bubble mailer...
  14. I stopped using that stuff long time ago, ever since jazzshrink showed me how to hypnotize people. That's how I get all of my cds from the brick-n-mortar stores.
  15. Chris, they got busted, if I remember right. Chrissy and Tony B, otoh, were jim dandy. Imagine drinking a cold one from Andy Kaufman's skull. Do I hear "Keg Party" or what? B)
  16. Tell you what, dude. If you have the balls to do it, I'll do it with you. First we'll hit the cd stores in the city, of course, then buy a couple of shovels at Home Depot[they give you a refund if you still have the receipt!], drive out to Elmont with a bottle of Wild Turkey, wait till the dark and find out for ourselves. I'm dead serious.
  17. I sometimes play a cd for days if I like it, but nothing [and I mean nothing] came close to the kid in my apartment building about 18 years ago blasting away Europe-The Final Countdown for at least a week, I think more. He made a 90-min. tape with just that p.o.s. tune on it, and looped that baby. And did he loop it! I even remember the stupid lyrics, like it was yesterday. We're leaving together But still it's farewell And maybe we'll come back To earth, who can tell I guess there is no one to blame We're leaving ground Will things ever be the same again It's the final countdown....... What, you never heard it? So, which one did you wear out?
  18. What do you mean by A/B'ing different cds? A/B'ing the same music on rvg vs. jrvg vs. tocj vs. collector's choice, etc?
  19. What exactly is that stuff on your passenger seat? Looks like a severed head...
  20. Does anyone remember The 7 Faces of Dr. Lao ? I always though that he deserved more than a Felix. More than an Oscar even.
  21. Randall was the kind of man who will definitely not rest in peace. He was also an actor who was bigger than his roles. Much bigger.
  22. Sorry, bud, you're IN. When I first saw Al I thought, "Wow, this guy is 80 years old and he can easily kick my ass." Sensei!
  23. Chuck, what a coincidence[not really, since you hipped me onto it last week]. I bought the cd at the Tower yesterday. Love it! Little Niles in afro-cuban, you got to hear it, folks! You think Al will mind if I post the pics I took at his home last year?
