  1. Randy Weston. Hands down. I'll be there.
  2. Yes on all counts. I took my then teenage cousin to see Mike Stern and Bob Berg, ordered a Sprite for him. A glass of fucking Sprite cost $5. Beers are at least $8, and I'm talking Miller Lite here. Sets usually run only about 50 min. or so and then the staff is eager to kick everybody out to shove in the next crowd of the Japanese tourists. I hate that friggin place, plain and simple. New York institution my ass.
  3. I selectively listend to it for about 20 minutes in a record store about a month ago. Nicely recorded blowing session. I can see that it will apppeal to some, but nothing wowlicious, imo.
  4. I don't know about CDs, but CD booklets sure are affected by age. I have noticed that paper in few of mine has gotten yellower and lost some of its lustre, especially the glossy paper. Nothing really terrible, but since we are having this conversation..
  5. Right on, indeed. Thank you. I'll pull out out the cd from the Coltrane European box and let y'all know how the sound quality compares to this cd.
  6. I'm afraid I'm stuck with the Classical Relaxation cds, Sade and an occasional bossa nova record, even though I *try* to slip some jazz into the mix, just to maintain the status quo. I really tried to give it some variety, but the patients just don't seem to take well to Sonny Simmons for some reason, much less to Coltrane or even Bill Evans. When someone asks for something more contemporary I instruct the staff to say that I'm old-fashioned. One patient gave the receptionist a Kenny G cd for X-mas last year, kid you not. I confiscated it right after he left, no reason given. Don't ask me what I did with it. Nothing beats R&B. I think it might be the only style of music that truly has no racial boundaries. Sade is surprisingly non-tiring. Al Grey also wears extremely well. So does Marvin Gaye. My experiment with Ella's Song-Books didn't go as planned. Let's just say that show tunes had an interesting effect on one gentleman, but I politely declined the invitation. Not that there's anything wrong with it...
  7. I've had this cd for a few years, haven't played it in a while, well, it's playing right now, looks like a boot, sounds mediocre, but the music is first-rate. Cover art, production and everything else by Ron Warwell. In the liner blurb Warwell writes that he first saw Trane & Dolphy at the Blue Cornet[sic] [should be CorOnet, I think], and that's about it. I assume the recording was done at that venue in 1961-2 or so. Does anyone know where and when this music was recorded? AMG page
  8. JAZZ ON A SUMMER'S DAY is spoken for. Monk dvd is still here.
  9. You guys are just crazy...
  10. Noone is interested? They're still here.
  11. Elvin Jones has an autobiography coming up on Da Capo Press. Title is a *Different Drummer* . Can't wait till it comes out.
  12. Alan King had chutzpah. I don't know, maybe it's me, but I don't find most young stand up comics remotely funny. These old guys, they knew how to do it.
  13. Old Smoke Jones here.
  14. $100 is the top price for this record in M- condition. $120 max. Why would anyone pay this kind of coin?! it's just stupid.
  15. I was lookig for this book at one time. It was pretty expensive.
  16. Hans? Reinier? I found the obi. If you want it, send me your address.
  17. That's right! We're taking our s@#t back to America!
  18. Looks like one of those meth labs they bust on every episode of Cops.
  19. I will provide some hopefully interesting photographs.
  20. That price is f@#$ing insane. It should go for maybe $100...150 mint-
  21. I've read about this a few times, but I just have one question - Have any of his old boyfriends ever step out for an interview? If not, is it prudent to take it for a fact?
  22. Sometimes it's tough to tell, but I think I hear digital in some live recordings at least. I have maybe 100, maybe more of BS/SN, just curious if it makes sense getting lps over cds or vice versa in some cases.
