  1. Right after he and Melfi elope. Some plot spoilers for future episodes.
  2. What do you mean , "the top"? He's just another made guy. Nothing more, nothing less.
  3. Same here. Good one. Very entertaining anf fast-paced. Looks like Paulie is in for it. Feech LaManna is a tough mo-fo. Artie Bucco is Tony's roommate now. This guy is just bound to get hurt...
  4. Same here, except one more step. I organize the artists chronologically (and various artists collections also, as much as possible). I guess this sounds pretty anal retentive, but I find that I can find things easily this way. Paul, that's exactly what I'm planning to do after I finally sift through my collection.
  5. Mine are oranized by genre, i.e., jazz, classical, etc; then alphabetically by artist. It makes the most sense for me. After I acquire a record cleaning machine of my dreams one of these days I will clean the rest of my Lps, about 500 I haven't listened to yet, and then I will organize them further chronologically for each artist.

  7. I don't think Mance was ever underrated. Perhaps not as frequently recorded as of some time now because he concentrates on teaching, but not underrated. I saw him at the New School guiding a student concert 4 or 5 years ago. Jon Hendricks was in the audience, and then the two of them *really* jammed.
  8. Been really enjoying *Ray Draper Quintet Featuring John Coltrane*, and boy, is tuba slow comparing to Trane's barrage. What's the instrument that can produce the most notes in any given time interval? I'd think piano, because it has the most keys, but that's amateur talk. What do the pros say?
  9. The weirdest thing. I listened to both disks in the car on my way to work today, and had a portable tape recorder that I used to pick up what I thought about the music as it was playing along, so I wouldn't forget later. The damn thing wouldn't play, probably froze while sitting in the car all day. :rsly: Just got it going - Disk 1 1. No idea of the soloist. Khan Jamal on vibes? 2. This tenor listened to a lot of Coltrane. 3. Sounds like one of those "Organ Blue Notes". John Patton? 4. Return to Forever. Flora Purim. 5. No idea who that is, but I like it! 6. No idea. 7. Olden-time tenor style. Jimmy Forest? [one in a million shot] 8. No idea. 9. This sounds like a Paul Horn composition without Paul Horn playing. Or a Jack Wilson ca.1968. West Coast? 10. No idea. 11. Cassandra Wilson - Nature Boy 12. No idea. Disk2 1. Awesome! No idea who this is. 2. No idea. Reminiscent of Randy Weston's African Cookbook. I like it. 3. Crazy shit.
  10. From what I read - MOST ojc lps are analogue-mastered, with the ones having been mastered from a digital source, those have either a sticker on a shrink-wrap indicating so, or on the back of record cover it says "digital remastering by..." Generally speaking, I'd venture and say that if you're buying their vinyl that was pressed before 1987 you're buying analogue. Anyway, I stand by my claim that these LPs trounce cds [no bonus cuts though]. These are not to be confused with the German-made (Bernard Mikulsky) ojc's, which were digitally-mastered and don't sound that good.
  11. Z,there are several OJC lps that were made from the digital source, I think Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section is one. Most of them are from analog source, that's how I perceive the situation.
  12. How our boychik has grown. HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!
  13. The snitch is NOT Carmine, but another old guy who looks like him. Carmine is 6 feet under. However, Johnny Sack is probably going to whack Carmine's son in the near future to gain full control of the New York crew. Loved Steve Buschemi, btw.
  14. It's going to be tough. Your best bet is to monitor eBay. I got 3 there.
  15. Toyota introduces a trumpet-playing humanoid Gumbo ... more like sushi.
  16. They're periodically[read constantly] reissued on LP by audiophile labels.
  17. I'm in NY. Al , your nudge is more like an uppercut.
  18. Last week I saw the vhs for $50 locally.
  19. Just curious, Jim, but are you saying that there is not a single "legit" Miles album that you like better than these bootlegs? Wow! Columbia (or someone) needs to get their hands on these! He he. I think it could also be construed as "the favorite mountain is the one that hasn't been climbed yet".
  20. GoM, Cali's been pretty busy with his work, I think. When I was in LA last summe,r Cali and I met O. Bivins in Amoeba by sheer accident, we just happened to be in the Jazz section at the same time. O.Bivins is a contributor to AllAboutJazz LA, I think I saw him post on that conference some while ago.. I'm hugely relieved that jazz still lives in Amoeba.
  21. Yep, it's a couple of blocks away from my place of employment. Doesn't the guy wro runs the store look like he just stepped off the set of This is Spinal Tap? I go there maybe once a year. His prices for vinyl are rediculous, not even worth to browse. But I'll stop by there next week.
  22. You're in Marine Park?! I'm on east 27th and u. A ball's throw away.
  23. There's only one way to find out. B) If you see Far Away Lands, please consider me.. I hope they're just moving jazz to to smaller quarters. That store was great. Here're [and I hope they don't mind me posting their faces ] O.Bivins[l], moi [c] and Cali[r] in Amoeba LA last summer.
  24. San Francisco store eliminated their classical/jazz sections to make way for the VHS/DVDs. No jazz section now, just a jazz rack. I hear that similar downsizing is happening in Berkley and LA. This is not good news for the West Coast fans.
