IF the VAR worked, Otamendi would've gotten a red for kicking the ball at Rakitic's head, and one of Pique's yesterday's two handballs would've been a penalty. Also, intentional elbowing is a red, not a yellow. The ref used the VAR on Ronaldo, but didn't have the balls to redcard him. Although imho there was nothing there, not even a foul on his part. If they decide to keep the VAR, only the referee should decide to consult it if they want to, not a person in a booth making decisions for the ref. And limit the VAR to,say, 2 occasions per game. AND the communication between the ref and the booth people should be broadcast to all. -

I'm sorry, but as a player, if you don't see from which corner the ball is coming... you got a problem. Goal line tech is all the technological help the game needs. Leave the rest to the referee and assistants. Imho. -

I'm getting more and more frustrated with the Video Assist Referee [VAR] feature . For instance, why the hell did the ref need a VAR yesterday when Ronaldo was taken down on the edge of the penaly box?! As a ref, If you are not watching the player with the ball in the penalty box, what the hell are you doing on the pitch?! This VAR just sucks the joy out of the game. I hope they get rid of it after the WC. My $.02 -

Serbs were no saints, but Austrian and German rulers were more responsible than the Serbs, from my reading of history. War was certainly avoidable, had they wanted to avoid it. Just my $.02 The Uruguay-Russia game is about to start. I wonder if Kremlin made advances towards some of the Uruguay players.. Nothing would be too bizarre when one considers Russia and international sports. -

My top teams so far - Spain Portugal Croatia Mexico Belgium (the best attacking force in the WC, and somewhat of a leaky defense, but they still win big in my book). It's a do or die for Germany today. -

Messi has now gone almost 700 minutes in the WC matches without scoring a goal. Ouch. -

He's got virtually no support from the midfield. Messi only touched the ball twice in the penalty box in the second half. Aquero touched the ball just 7 times in all of the 1st half, and none in the second. I'd throw away their coach right now, and install Messi as a playing coach. Croats were amazing tonight. The Modric goal....he made that douchebag Otamendi look a fool, and then...a beauty! -

I want Croatia in the final! They won't. Not yet. In 4 years it'll be theirs. -

Buryatia's average annual temperature: −1.6 °C (29.1 °F) Where are they supposed to play, when the big chief from Moscow give them no ball , no net and no grass? Just mosquitoes and much fire water.. Russia's ruling cartel isn't interested in people playing soccer. Everything in the country runs of the hand-outs from Moscow, based on the proceeds of sale of oil and gas to the West. -

I think he means the conferences which show unevenly. Weak teams from weak regions make it to the WC , while the very strong South America is underrepresented. -

Spain is head and shoulders above Iran. Try playing against a team that parks a bus in its penalty box, where every player is a defender...even the best of the best will not have an easy time scoring against a team like that. Plus Iran looked at every opportunity to break Spain’s rhythm, faking injuries at almost every collision. Had Spain scored early the game would've been quite different. That being said, Spain was lucky to score a pinball goal. I am quite stunned at how both the Saudis and Egypt played against Russia, versus how they played against Uruguay. They made it so easy for the so-so Russians to score 8 goals, where Uruguay struggled to score just 2. I'm just sayin'.... -

I’m afraid Salah is doomed to play with second rate teammates for the rest of his national career, like George Best had before him. He didn’t get more than two good passes in 90 minutes today. -

I hope you're right, and they show their potential. There are two or three of my personal favorites on the England team, along with a number of over-hyped players, i.e. Raheem. -

They must've tackled Neymar at least a dozen times; he drew three yellow cards on their players. This is not a "beautiful game". That being said, Mexico looked a lot better than Brazil did today. Cojones were sorely missing from the pentacampeoes... -

Here's my summary of this historic match: SPAIN 3 - RONALDO 3 This will be viewed as one of the great bouts in the history of the game. He just cemented his "Best player ever" plaque...the narcissistic bastard. -

Egypt put up an admirable fight. Uruguay was underwhelming, even though they [barely] won. They may win the group, but after today's game I don't see them in the quarter-finals, unless they get their s*it together.
