  1. Wow, a boy or a girl? Double Congrats!
  2. HAPPY BIRTHDAY from all of us in the band!!!!
  3. my money's on "the andromeda strain" score, housed in a silver fold out hexogonal sleeve... -e- Your money was right. I even have the folding instructions sheet and a hexagonal inner sleeve. Does anybody want to see pictures?
  4. This SUCKS! Sounds like her biggest achievement will be as a cashier at the Wal-Mart. Plenty of radio music there.
  5. It would've been cool if Gil Melle left you a negative. I'd be a conversation piece. Alas... I have a particularly unusual Gil Melle LP. Let me go take some pictures. Back in 10.
  6. I coined the pharase "mind-fuck". I will forgo the lack of love, but credit would be nice! Mind-fuck describes a whole lot of music. The clearest examples - some Evan Parker's Po Torch records. I hope this reissue makes people give up their vinyl, so I can finally buy this somewhat elusive Lp. I bet this cd will go for bucks when it too disappears. Thanks for the heads-up.
  7. Porcy62, I took this photo specifically for you yesterday night. New Yorkers will recognize the corner of West 3rd Street and 6th Avenue. Maybe you should come to New York for your next Christmas. There are thousands of Italians that come here for the Holidays. Watch some good movies, do some shopping, listen to some jazz, laugh at the Americans...
  8. Paging Dr. Albertson, Dr. Chris Albertson!
  9. Here's what I know - Jazzland record label was sold to Orpheum Productions in 1964 or so. Original Mono Jazzland labels were orange, Stereo were black, Orpheum Productions labels of the reissued Jazzland LPs were maroon. Sound quality of the Orpheum LPs is said to be mediocre. Orpheum Productions later sold Jazzland to Fantasy, since it was later a part of the Fantasy/OJC catalogue [correct me if I am wrong on the Fantasy purchase/sale]. If you have any other info on Orpheum Productions - please pitch in.
  10. I'm in the mood for some soft sax and vibes, actually! Got a bottle of Corbel nicely chilled.
  11. Looking for these records in Near Mint condition - Mario Escalera - Blue Mondays Mike Mainieri - Insight Mike Mainieri - Journey Thru An Electric Tube $ or trade.
  12. *** I can't get no satisfaction I can't get no satisfaction 'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try I can't get no, I can't get no When I'm drivin' in my car And a man comes on the radio He's telling me more and more About some useless information Supposed to fire my imagination I can't get no, oh no no no Hey hey hey, that's what I say I can't get no satisfaction I can't get no satisfaction 'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try I can't get no, I can't get no When I'm watchin' my TV And a man comes on to tell me How white my shirts can be But he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke The same cigarrettes as me I can't get no, oh no no no Hey hey hey, that's what I say I can't get no satisfaction I can't get no girlie action 'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try I can't get no, I can't get no When I'm ridin' round the world And I'm doin' this and I'm signing that And I'm tryin' to make some girl Who tells me baby better come back later next week 'Cause you see I'm on losing streak I can't get no, a no no no Hey hey hey, that's what I say I can't get no, I can't get no I can't get no satisfaction No satisfaction, no satisfaction, no satisfaction
  13. I forgot to mention that in addition to jazz, I also am in the process of restoring 2 cars [that takes care of most of the usable garage space], our yard is completely dug up till April of next year, and I also have an office building that is being thoroughly renovated from the ground up. What also helps is that my wife and I are living 180 miles away from each other and see each other every other weekend or so. For my birthday last week she gave me a pair of pants and a new detective novel by Akunin. I'd wished she'd do something more ... me, but I guess her staying out of the way of my interests is also not that bad. Pants didn't fit, btw.
  14. I've got it all figured out! Will post some pics of what it all looks like later today!
  15. On one hand I should be grateful my wife takes my jazz pretty well, doesn't piss and moan about the loud music, or about thousands of records strewn on the floor [see the Music Room thread in Audio], or about all the gadgets and stuff. On the other hand she is totally indifferent to the whole thing, doesn't care one way or another. I gave her Billie Holiday's Columbia box as a present some years ago; she didn't even open it. But I sure did. She knows who Miles and Trane are, and that's about it. Once in a while she sits down to isten to the stereo for a minute, says ,"This was nice", and takes off. I guess I shouldn't be complaining...
  16. http://www.jazzmanrecords.co.uk/asp/default.asp They have what I want. How is their grading?
  17. Another shot of the same. Stay tuned for updates!!!
  18. The real question right now is what am I going to do about lovingly storing my records. Makes it kinda tough searching for stuff, but I have my own system for finding shit...time to move on. Stay tuned!!!
  19. I was thinking of picking up a beautiful McIntosh MR-78 FM tuner, and then took a step or two back. I haven't listened to and FM radio broadcasts in 10-15 years, aside from the car radio....
  20. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
  21. Marcus, do you still update this discography?
  22. I just bought some very interesting LPs that were autographed by the artist to a particular patron [more on that later], so I wonder whether he bought them at the gig or brought them in with him to be signed. Question for the old-timers - Did Coltrane or Bill Evans carry a box of records for sale with them to the gigs? I'm sure Miles had too much class, so he had someone else do it, like Tony Williams or Herbie.
  23. This is a damn shame. I've communicated with Steve from time to time through PMs and knew he had persistent brain tumors, but I was under the impression things were getting better. Guess I was wrong. I think Steve was a professor either in Chicago or Michigan..
