  1. To say that this track has nothing to do with the rest of the cd is a bit of an understatement. I love this track. It has a certain cerebral Herbie-Wayne quality to it. Freddie Hubbard Rouse Tyner Cranshaw Higgins rec. 01/22/1965 Is the rest of this session available elsewhere? This track also appears on the Lost Session BN cd, which I forgot, otherwise I wouldn't have bought the Connoissuer, since I already have the TOCJ cd. Anyway, how about the rest of the session? I got to hear it.
  2. To answer my own question - Dizzy Gillespie's Big Band sides with Lee Morgan and Benny Golson are very good big band hard bop. This album is what made me curious about other hard bop biog band records - Yes, I am mainly interested in the hey-day recordings, ca.1956-1965, but keep 'em all comin'.
  3. Finally got the place cleaned up. I got some photos of my set-up, if you want to see them, I'll post a couple...
  4. Maybe I had a little too much of the birthday vino yesterday, but it definitely sounds excellent. Of course I just got a new SET amp and SET's are a match made in heaven for the K-Horns.
  5. Thanks, lads! It wasn't the best birthday I've ever had, but not the worst either. Got a couple of presents from family, bought myself a new audio toy, all is nice.
  6. Major congratulations to a fellow Sagittarius!
  7. yeah, it was nice to hook up with you and your bud Sam the knowledge man. I managed to squeeze out an Omnitone cd out of that rotting carcas of a Tower's Final Sale. I think what we might be missing here re:Belden, is that he was very sparcely amplified comparing to the rest of the band. I kinda wanted to hear more of what he'd played. I hope they master it well and release an audiophile vinyl of this one. I think they were recording it. I'd go and see this band again in a heartbeat, warts and all.
  8. In your opinion, in general terms, how do they help? The highs are higher, the lows are lower, the mids are...in the middle! I feel the transparency and sheer thickness of music at the same time. Sound-stage improvement was of the highest degree. Dynamic nature of woodwind instruments is now fully present. This is incredible stuff, folks. Just follow the instructions. Especially important is to back out the screw one full turn after you've screwed it in all the way. That made all the difference! Only $100 for a set of 4! I don't know how they do it.
  9. http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?acc...&1169754218 These clever little things made such an incredible difference in every single aspect of sound reproduction from my stereo that I've bought 20 more and installed them everywhere in our house. These are the best value in audio!!!
  10. I really like the first side of Carnival Sketches. Is there such a thing as a Near Mint Argo? Stay tuned. I will let you know in a few days. This will be BIG!
  11. In a couple of weeks I will be listing some interesting LPs for sale. A VG+ Mono pressing of the Carnival Sketches will be amongst them.
  12. Good luck!
  13. Rarely seen photo of Clarence Gene Shaw. This is not an original cover for this LP, btw! This cover is from an Italian reissue pressed in the 1980s. These are the original covers for all three Argo LPs.
  14. Glad you liked this stuff, Jim and Aggie. Melody Am is the full-length cd that contains 15 or so songs. If you want to get into it in more depth, you may want to investigate their singles also. That's where all the different remixes come in play. But I would get the full-length cd first. I think they might have released another one or two since this one, I haven't looked. I think they're from Norway. Check out this one also. And these. They're all from the Melody AM album.
  15. Wow, Goldrfrapp really turned to shit, didn't it? As much as I enjoyed their first album, whatever videos of their recent stuff I saw on the youtoob are just dreck, IMO.
  16. I love that commercial. That's weird. I just typed 'I love that commercial.' Thanks for giving the band's name. The music really makes it. You've got to check out some of their videos on youtoob. I got their album. It's good for the car and when we have friends over and when missus is in the mood...man, this is a UNIVERSAL album.
  17. Lately I've been fond of this band - Royksopp This is perhaps their most popular song, known to many for its use in a Geico cave-man tv commercial here in the US. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhjbTsPtj8o...bTsPtj8o&NR There are several of their vidos on youtube. Check 'em out.
  18. Yep. Although the label is redish. US RCA labels of that type are of yellowish hue.
  19. I'm eyeing a particularly tasty 1969 Canadian RCA pressing of a Lenny Breau album. Why would they press it in Canada is beyond me. It's not like Lenny was a star. Maybe one for the home crowd...
  20. I think so. Isn't he a forward for the German national football team and Bayern?
  21. I have this. Music's ok, sort of like Portishead, words are another story. Might as well hire Damo Suzuki as her lyricist.
  22. Lenny Breau - the greatest guitar player who the Canadians claim to be their own. Where's the love? If Lenny Breau and Bill Evans did a duet record I'd request it be put in my coffin, so we could go up in flames together. Alas, it'll be a solo flight for me, unless ... Got to get some replies here.
  23. Still would like to know - were these pressed from the original masters or dubs, eh?
