  1. I consistently see the same names in the used record bins while fishing for that special overlooked masterpiece. The following people made tons and tons of dollars based on their presistence in the record bins everywhere, from Arizona to Rhode Island. Here's my top 10 zillionaire list - 1.Billy Joel [by far] 2.Paul Simon [distant second] 3.Carole King 4.Jim Croce 5.Herb Alpert 6.Genesis [post-Gabriel, of course] 7.Allman Brothers 8.Doobie Brothers 9.Elton John 10.Men at Work [only one album, but it's everywhere]
  2. I just scored this box at a record fair. Will delve into it later today. I like to listen to the music first, before reading the reviews, so I'll get to the lauded Jim Sangrey's review later.
  3. Obviously she was Elmo Hope's widow prior to becoming Walter Booker's. Another solid musician gone. The balance sheet doesn't look good.
  4. Lester Young - The Complete Savoy Recordings - 2cd set - new and sealed - $20 Lester Young - With the Oscar Peterson Trio - Verve Master Edition - excellent in/out - $9 John Coltrane - Ballads - Impulse digi-pack - excellent in/out - $8 Media Mail included. Delivery Confirmation $.75 extra and recommended.
  5. A great actor. He was good even in the bad films.
  6. Is this an accepted truth or just...your opinion?
  7. It's actually a faux-pas to use that line... I am puzzled why you feel that way. I like the song for what it is.... a song. I am not making a political statement. I do not condone the aggression that Germany displayed over two world wars. I am talking about music and music only.
  8. Hey, where's Wolff, this thread's starter? Haven't seen him post in a while.
  9. You'll like this Jim. It's a seal of approval from a Japanese mag called "Soul Jazz". MG Not Soul Jazz, but the famous Swing Journal.
  10. Every time he's for sale, bidders become crazy. i don't know this one. So great ? I have it on cd. Nice, but nothing special, imo. How very sad for you . . . The thing is...when I had this one on CD I did not find it and incredible record either. But after I found the original Savoy DG LP and played it...I think it is a masterpiece! Well, if Allan wants to make me happy, there is a way!

  12. Look at this auction. Anyone has any info on these early Japanese pressings? I had no idea Japan produced Blue NOte Lps as early as 1967...
  13. I've read that this place has a huge number of records. Will be having a Thankagiving dinner at my uncle's house in Bushkill this Thursday, so I figured I'd stop by there to check it out. Anybody been to that store? Main St. Jukebox
  14. I added - roundagain jazzrecordcenter jazz5060 to my favorite seller list. Funny, Round Again Records is about 20 minutes away from me. I just bought some records from Steve yesterday night. What a delightful man to deal with! We also had a discussion on Blue Notes and other original pressings. He puts them right on eBay. First of all, they may sit in the store for months, while they're gone in a matter of days on eBay. Second, a lot of times people who browse these expensive records destroy them by being very rough. Jazz Record Center is a famous store, I've been there a few times; as a matter of fact I've bought some records from Fred Cohen just 2 weeks ago.
  15. Give us the names!
  16. Preamble - I like to buy used LPs at record fairs and in stores, because I can examine them. The only records I buy on eBay are Mosaic sets that I missed on when they first came out. They usually are in pristine condition. Problem is that most times there are virtually no Blue Note LPs to be found in stores or at record fairs. Dealers send them right through to eBay where they can get a higher premium, which is totally understood. So I decided to give eBay at try and see what Blue Notes I can manage to score. In the last month I bought 6 Blue Notes, most described as either NM-, Excellent+ or VG++. So far I've received 4 of them, and none are in the condition described by the seller. The clincher was an LP that I splurged over $100 on, an original New York, USA pressing described as "NM, unplayed"; this dealer from Italy needs a thorough eye exam, because this is not a NM record by any stretch of imagination. Another record was described as VG+,"one or two noisy spots". More like 1 or 2 noisy spots per revolution. The other 2 were also graded too liberally. All of them were purchased from dealers with 99% positive feedback. Have I just been unlucky or is this some kind of a pattern?
  17. I'm not a big fan of the late 50s-early 60s Atlantic stereos. Many of the ones I've heard have a sonic hole in the middle. Soundstage is minimal, if non-existent. That is especially evident on Coltrane's albums. I prefer my Atlantics served in mono.
  18. It comes up on ebay from time to time. In NM- condition it goes for $25-$50. If the cover has library stickers, price will drop.
  19. Some people hipped me onto a record store South of Boston in the Wellesley area[?], owned by a woman, but I totally lost the info. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
  20. I would also add Mosaic - the Blue Note vinyl sets I have sound wonderful. This is perhaps the best and easiest way to start listening to Blue Note records on vinyl. Especially since most Mosaic sets on eBay are *really* VG+/NM-.
  21. It's gonna take a looooong time to sell out.
  22. I am seriously thinking about buying an Alesis MasterLink unit. According to many vinylholics, it's the best machine out there for transfering your Lps onto a cd.
  23. I have BST 84169 pressing of the Search For The New Land with "van gelder" and the "ear" stamped in the dead wax. Unfortunately the record is only VG, with some clicks and pops. You're saying this one is rare?
