  3. Yeah, you're right, Jeff. What's bullshit is that it's being put over as THE recipe. Any time anyone says they have the answer for you - whether it be shoe salesman, politician, priest, artist - you know it's a con, because a) there is no THE answer and b) they don't know you from Eric Dolphy. MG

  5. Sometimes, but usually when the musician was trying to push his/her personal envelope and not quite making it, or not quite able to sustain it. I don't regard that as a bad thing. I never thought it was lack of concentration that made things drop off. But It might be sometimes and, hey? so what? What happens, happens. MG
  6. Well, I thought it was bullshit. I don't deny that "the sounds have intellectual as well as emotional appeal," but that only applies to someone who can listen with the ear of a musician. So, for me, the whole thing was a self-serving exercise. Furthermore, he treats music as a thing in itself, but it isn't and it's at least as interesting to listen to music as an expression of a time and place. But is that something that musicians think of music? - that it's a thing in itself, without broader context? MG

  16. To break in on things, I'm surprised that Arnold Wesker was knighted. I'm even more surprised that he accepted it. In 2006. I guess he'd mellowed a bit by then MG

  19. Sometimes you'll find great deals like that. I don't know if it's done intentionally for short periods of time or if it's a temporary glitch. About 4 years I got a new/sealed Bill Evans' Complete Fantasy Recordings box set for $27.00 delivered from Amazon, not a marketplace seller. Whenever I'm interested in something, I put it on Amazon's wish list and check it regularly. It's surprising on how the price can fluctuate on some items. Both the things I put on my Amazon wish list skyrocketed to hundreds of pounds within days MG
