I first heard Adams on this I got a distinct impression that he never played like that again. MG

A lot of this stuff appears to be Lansdowne Jazz material. I wonder why they haven't got around to Ambrose Campbell's 'High life today', which features Shake Keane and several other British jazz musicians? I'm interested in the Erskine Hawkins for £2.99. I've got a fair few of the tracks already, so cheap is good, as far as I'm concerned. Hawkins could really do with a Mosaic issue of his RCA Victor & Bluebird material but, until that great day arrives, I'll make do with dabs of this and that. What's the most economical place to order from? MG

Album covers showing hats, but no people

Yes - I couldn't find any Acker Bilk covers with just a hat. MG -
OK, I haven't yet bothered to connect my scanner to the new computer, so this will give me cause to do so. It'll be a day or so as daughter & grandsons have just turned up for lunch. MG Of course, I should have realised that my old scanner wasn't going to work with Windows 7, and the manufacturer has ceased to support that model. This may take some time... MG

Turntable mats
The Magnificent Goldberg replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Thanks. You're undoubtedly right about treating the symptom, not the problem. Is an anti-static dry brush one of those that sits beside the deck and you put the arm on the record while it's playing? I've seen those and always wondered what they did. My turntable doesn't have a deck to stand such a thing on; the playing surface of the LP is about 4 inches above the level of the shelf on which the turntable stands, so a thing like I imagine you're talking about would need a little derrick to stand on I assume the brush cleans the record just ahead of the stylus, like you see the support people doing in curling matches. What does a zero stat gun do? MG an anti-static brush is just a brush that is properly grounded. they are still operated by hand. they are used for dry cleaning of LPs before playing. they'll take off loose particles of dust. They have some that even plug into an oulet and use it's ground: http://shop.mapleshadestore.com/Static-Draining-Record-Brush/productinfo/PHONO-BRU/ IMO this is worth every bit of $40. think about how much you have invested in your vinyl setup and your LPs. $40 to may playback massively more enjoyable is easily worth it IMO. This seems a bit OTT for me, and I don't have a spare plughole near the turntable anyway (already got one four way socket running off the wall point). I did a search and they don't sell them over here. I live in the rainiest part of the UK MG -
I don't expect he would have reported it if he had. Pugs have minds of their own. Henry's our second. And he has no choice about listening; I'm only making him listen to music when I'm looking after him if my wife's out, or if she wants lunch watching TV in peace and quiet, so he's shut in the dining room with me and the portable CD player. He generally lies down, nice and quiet, but gets irritable if the wrong music is on. MG

Les McCann - invitation to openness (1972)
The Magnificent Goldberg replied to slide_advantage_redoux's topic in Artists
Nice article from Jazz Times about Les touring with Javon Jackson in late 2010. http://jazztimes.com/articles/26854-javon-jackson-les-mccann-two-for-the-road I think Les is still around, playing in the groove as ever. MG -

I just found this pic from 2009 of Les with George Shaw, at the 2009 Long Beach Jazz Festival. Les doesn't look too well. http://www.georgeshaw.com/gallery.html MG -

Every time you put on Sun Ra or Sunny Ade, give your dog a biscuit. I guarantee he'll see the error of his ways in less than a week. Nope; my dog's a black pug. Pugs can't be trained. If you see Cesar Milan claim lasting success with a pug, you'll know he's cheating. Pugs will behave themselves to suit themselves; and misbehave to suit themselves. You can't bribe our dog with anything. And the blacks are naughtier than the fawns. MG
