  1. Roy Byrd was Professor Longhair - not a small name, Ubu. Julia Lee was an even bigger name than Longhair, in the '40s - 13th biggest selling R&B artist of the decade. Very, very cool lady. I wasn't aware she'd ever recorded for Mercury; she was mostly on Capitol. What is on your box must have been some early material recorded for a tiny label in Kansas City in '45. What's the track title? MG
  2. Dodo was a Soul Jazz singer. Compare her with someone like Della Reese, Irene Reid or Billie Poole. Not quite as good as them, I think, but not bad. MG
  3. I thought they were considerably less than that these days... but hell, the shit's on CD (bet you never thought you'd see me say THAT!). You mean I've passed my best opportunity to sell mine, already? Oh well, I did give "Matador" to a worthy cause; a friend who was just getting in to GG. MG
  4. I also surprised myself with how much I liked the "Stitt goes Latin" with Thad, which is on the Stitt Mosaic. MG
  5. Bobby "Boris" Pickett & the Crypt Kicker Five The Hollywood Argyles Frank Zappa
  6. Cornell Wilde Cornell Dupree Butch Cornell
  7. I don't know, MG. I think I'd rather listen to Screaming Jay during the daylight hours. The combination of Screaming Jay and darkness might be too much for me. The combination of Screaming Jay anywhere within audible reach of my wife would be too much for me! So after she's gone to sleep is best. MG
  8. Actually, it was probably '78 or '79. Did you get this new, Clunky? In other words, can I get one, too? What label is it on? MG
  9. Now, chewy - do you know Tom Archia? I even know The Archers. (BBC joke) MG
  10. Rudy Toombs Sebastian Toombs Simon Templar
  11. Jesse James Rev Jesse Jackson Jesse Powell
  12. Oh, sorry Chris. We have O'Donel Levy, Leon Cook and Mark (it sez Mike) Elf on guitars; Mike Moss (d) Kwasi Jayourba (perc). MG
  13. Got my CD copy a few weeks ago for £3.45 inc post. I only had half the album before, on the "Supa cookin'" twofer. Very happy bunny, but I still wish someone would do a proper job on reissuing GM. MG
  14. Chickened out - playing it tonight, not first thing in the morning Screaming Jay Hawkins - I hear voices (45) MG
  15. Mr Nosnibor Mrs Humdrum Samuel Butler
  16. Never heard of this - please post more details, so I can join the race! MG
  17. Er... Screamin' Jay Hawkins - I hear voices? (Now, can I play that first thing tomorrow without divorce proceedings ensuing?) MG
  18. Having a splurge on the Sonny Stitt box - discs 1-6, then goodnight, I think. MG
  19. I always lie on surveys, feedback and so on. Doesn't everyone? MG
