  3. It's not bad, but not particularly great. His best in that line, I reckon, is "While my guitar gently weeps". If I've not got the dates wrong, I think this was arranged by Bob James before he went to CTI. MG
  4. And I thought MY collection was biased! But I've no Nessa; Cecil; Dolphy; No Max (except Money Jungle);one 78 of Basie (is that more derisory than having nowt at all?); only one Bud (Bud!). MG
  5. Thread of the day! MG
  6. Not exactly the best album cover in the world, I must admit...but damn fine music! If ever there was a first prize for major dis-connect between album title and cover art, that would be the one !
  7. I hadn't noticed that. I'll have to pay that site a visit. Thanks. MG

  14. I've been dealing with Ray at Mundo for some time and have never had a problem with him. I think I have occasionally waited a while for a response; but never long enough to try my patience. And he's NEVER told me he could get something and failed to do so pretty quickly. I suspect he only updates his artist pages when someone asks him for something and he finds he can't get it. He's mentioned the need to update a page to me once or twice under those circumstances. I assume he's responded to you now. MG

  16. I am definitely finding that on some items. MG

  18. I haven't heard it but I should think so. Most of those other guys who recorded for B&B did - and then some. I reckon B&B knew what they were up to. MG

  20. I'm watching it on DVD. It's a joint BBC/HBO production. Guy Thanks Guy - I'll see what I can find out. MG It has been on TV here and it might be being repeated. Thanks David - I'll keep a look out. MG
  21. Oh well, barely getting into the Mosaic Roosts at present. I think I'll cancel Christmas and listen to records instead! MG
  22. There is some REAL STUFF in this label. What I've got (if not all, part) and can unhesitatingly recommend is BB988 Buddy Tate, Wild Bill Davis - Broadway BB981 Tiny Grimes - Food For Thought BB972 Illinois Jacquet - Jacquet's Street BB957 Richard 'groove' Holmes, Willis Jackson - Live On Stage (ed: issued in US on Muse as "Y'understand me") BB954 Al Grey, Arnett Cobb - Ain't That Funk For You BB940 Arnett Cobb - Jumpin' At The Woodside BB929 Milt Buckner - Green Onions BB928 Alvin Queen, Lonnie Smith - Lenox And Seventh BB927 Roger Ram Ramirez - Live In Harlem BB912 Al Grey - Grey's Mood BB910 Wild Bill Davis - All Right, Ok, You Win BB891 Eddie Chamblee - Blowing In Paris BB884 Candy Johnson - Candy's Mood BB865 Illinois Jacquet - Th Man I Love In particular, the Ram Ramirez is just incredible! Ram on organ, Ronnie Coles on drums. Can two men play "Robbins' nest" live for 25 minutes without being boring? Er, yes, they can and do. This album was originally issued on UK Columbia in the Lansdowne series and was produced by Stanley Dance at Frank's Steak House. Milt Buckner's "Green onions" is also a classic GREEEAAAASSSEEE album. Roy Gaines, a well known Texas bluesman, often heard on Bobby Bland records, is on guitar. "Green onions, makes your belly stick right out", as Milt sings! Others I will have to queue up for are BB987 Hal Singer, Milt Buckner - Milt & Hal BB984 Johnny Letman - A Funky Day In Paris BB973 Guy Lafitte, Wild Bill Davis - Three Men On A Beat BB958 Arnett Cobb, Guy Lafitte - Tenor Abrupt BB941 Illinois Jacquet - God Bless My Solo BB939 Buddy Tate - And His Celebrity Club Orchestra BB932 Harold Ashby - Scufflin' BB930 Chris Woods - From Here To Eternity BB925 John Hardee - A Little Blue BB924 Budd Johnson - Ya ! Ya ! BB922 Sir Charles Thompson - Hey There BB920 Jonah Jones - Confessin' BB919 Charlie Shavers - The Last Session BB915 Guy Lafitte - Corps Et Ame BB883 Eddie 'lockjaw' Davis - Light And Lovely BB878 Eddie Vinson - Kidney Ste BB877 Sonny Stitt - Back To MyOwn Home Town (This is, perhaps, a little ambitious of me ) I wish they'd issue a box set of the 10 "Midnight slows" LPs. MG
