  1. Groan from over here where this kind of thing happens once a decade. Very interesting to hear that there's this kind of venue around Pittsburgh. MG
  2. Whistling Jack Smith Ronnie Ronalde Kenny Burrell
  3. I agree with you 99.99999999% But I found 2 Blue Notes there. I've pointed out the lack of a past tense to Mike Ricci before, but with no result. And shuffling stuff off to an archive is the easiest thing ever! As for providing more info, well... MG
  4. And here's a couple from HMV Japan http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/211094 http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/193995 MG

  8. I got a couple the other day. On the back of one (TOCJ1610) it gives a release date of 23 Oct 1996 and a deletion date of 22 Oct 1998. On the back of TOCJ1612 these dates are 27 November 1996 and 26 November 1998. I concluded they weren't reissues. MG
  9. Lou Donaldson - It's laddering my tights! MG
  10. I don't think the compressor effects how the burned CD comes out; It only evens out levels during playback through Itunes. Oh, thanks. MG
  11. Jack McDuff - Who cares what tomorrow's gonna bring MG
  12. Thanks TTK. I've got itunes v7.0.1.8. Does that help tell you whether the compressor will be doing its stuff or not. And should I have it on or off? (I didn't quite mean that ) MG
  13. MG Oh God I ache!
  14. Couldn't resist a bargain! £2.50 + post. (4 more from this series on the way.) MG

  17. My favourite in those days was Radio 390 (I think the wavelength). It had an ace R&B show on Sundays. I remember this as starting in 1965. MG
  18. I never open spam - I'm too scared of catching something. MG
  19. Remind me again, what do the Asterix mean? MG

  21. Have a very good time, Brownie! And many more! MG
  22. Well, the Dodds turned up in the post this moring and I've got it on now. When "Yes I'm in the barrel" started, I whipped it off and compared it with the sound on my Armstrong cheapo "Hot fives and sevens" CD (on Giants of Jazz). The Quadromania is a LOT better than that! Packaging is crap. Still, I'll get by, as long as I have you. MG
  23. Asterix Obelix Dogmatix
  24. My wife wants me to do a pop compilation for her of stuff I've downloaded onto my hard drive. Before I do this, because I don't want to muck her stuff up, I thought I'd practise on some Jimmy Smith Blue Notes stuff to learn the technology (and because I want to:)) So, what I'm going to put on CD are these: Plum nellie (from "At the organ") All day long (from "At the organ") Hollerin' and screamin' (from "J S trio + L D") Since I fell for you (alt) (from "Home cookin'") I'm just a lucky so and so (from "Standards") Midnight special Back at the Chicken Shack I've found a new baby (from "JS plays Fats Waller") Hotel happiness (from "I'm movin' on") Bucket When my dreamboat comes home (from "Rockin' the boat") Any suggestions for stuff I've forgotten from his BN period? What I've selected comes to just over an hour and a quarter, so there's limited scope for additions. Second, techy stuff. I've got itunes and Windows Media Player, both of which appear to enable me to both rip and burn tracks. Nothing else. Any thoughts on which is better? Any thoughts on whether I'll need to do anything to make the stuff all come out at about the same volume? MG
