  1. I can't quit buying K2s...
  2. I like the stuffing cooked inside o' the bird. When it's removed the stuffing comes out hot, soft, and steamy.
  3. Congratulations. You got your single copy at least. I wimped out and didn't try to get a copy for myself.
  4. Does she not want to see it? Just wondering... I watched the previews of 'Alexander' throughout the summer movie season. This is a movie I'll save for viewing via DVD. It looks like it could be good, could be bad, but will be long and drawn out.
  5. For my Thanksgiving: Baked turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, creamed corn, cranberry relish, homemade bread, and a simple lettuce & tomato salad. Followed by a choice of pumpkin pie or peanut-butter pie (or both) served with strong coffee and conversation.
  6. Of the three listed Selects I would go with the Curtis Amy. Go to Mosaic's website and listen to 'Native Land.' I believe this single song is worth the price of admission on its own. This song is not representative of the entire set. Keep in mind, this is a Mosaic set. The first few tracks are kind of a funky jazz featuring saxophone and organ. Some on this Board have written they don't like the saxophone & organ material. I'm not sure why. This is very good music to my ears. All three disks are very nice. To me, you can't go wrong with the Curtis Amy Select. The Paul Chambers and Dizzy Reece are good too. All three listed Mosaics would be welcomed to my collection. Of these three, however, I'd purchase the Amy first.
  7. Well they've been laboring under the notion that it's a single disc all along. Doesn't mean they're right! My fingers is still crossed... If they couldn't get the disk, what did they send to sjarrell? They probably sent the fuggin' Mosaic.
  8. Any more detail from the email? This web page image does show, at the bottom in the notes, this being a 7 CD set. CD Universe has created a bizarre page to advertise a single CD. I mean, it lists at $132?
  9. No. It wasn't all in caps.
  10. I just checked the CD Universe site. It appears the Jazztet set is 'backordered.' I expect they won't be selling any more at the low-advertised price once they make the new order.
  11. It seems too wierd. However, I don't know what else it would be if not 'the' Mosaic. I wonder if CD Universe will ship the product if it's a mis-print? Do the people at CD Universe know or care? You place your order, the computer does its thing, a person at the warehouse mails the package... and all is well. I've been to retail stores where a price is obviously mis-marked. One of the retail workers will apologize for the incorrect price but will not honor the incorrect price (unless the price is wrong by only a couple of dollars).
  12. He looks like he's at a Beatles-esque 'jazz in' or something. Is his name really Mango?
  13. The cover is cool. But, what the cover looks like is all I know. Who is the guy sitting behind Blakey?
  14. This reminds me of how Ringo Star played on all those Beatles records.
  15. The listing has got me to thinking about making a purchase too. I don't want to miss out and I don't want to be a dupe. link
  16. If you check the CD Universe page, the Mosaic Selects show the correct price, are listed as one disk, but the label is 'Mosaic Select.' The oddly-priced Verve Jazztet lists a label of 'Umvd/Grp.' I did a search on the CD Universe site and found no listing, by doing a label search, for Mosaic. If I recall correctly... GRP/Impulse/Verve are the same company?
  17. I wish I had the nerve to order this one. Is this the Mosaic with the wrong price tag? Damn, damn, damn. The notes, near the very bottom, say 7 CDs.
  18. The Dexter Gordon Select is the kind of set that sneaks up on the listener. When I played the first disk from the Dexter Gordon Select I was thinking, "Hey, new Dex!" I had the music playing in the background while I played on my computer in the foreground. About a half hour into the disk I caught myself drifting away from my computer and toward the music. I had the thought, "Damn, this is really, really good." I've read certain opinions saying the sound quality of this set is not as good as one might expect (due to it being a live recording). I have no complaints about the sound quality. Maybe I've listened to too many 1950s/1960s jazz recordings and my ear has become accustomed to the 'old' sound? The Dexter Keystone Mosaic recordings sound very acceptable to me.
  19. The more I play the Krupa/James box, the more I like it. It's the kind of Mosaic set that, on the first listen, you might think, "Great! But, also, just okay." Recently, I've caught myself on many-a-night, playing on the computer while enjoying the Krupa/James disks. Each disk presents a nice mixture of vocal and non-vocal jazz. To my ears, the music in the box gets better as the music progresses from the first disk to the last.
  20. I was never grabbed by the Modern Jazz Quartet either. Their music has always seemed, to me, like 'stiff' jazz. Kind of a mixture of jazz improvisation combined with the contraints of a classical music style. Earlier this year, around February, I purchased the MJQ's 'Django' CD. I was on a K2 hunt and the 'Django' title was the only K2 my local Border's store had in stock that day. I played 'Django' and decided it seemed really good. I purchased Sonny Rolins with the MJQ and the other MJQ K2 remaster 'Concorde.' I believe I've found a new appreciaton for the Modern Jazz Quartet.
  21. I'd like to see more RVGing, McMastering, or just remastering of the titles from this era of the Blue Note catalog:
  22. This is a good thing to not know (or experience). Believe me.
  23. I have a friend who does all his shopping at Wal-Mart. Clothing, housewares, and food. He invited me to his house for dinner once upon a time. I advised him that I'd bring the meat for the grill. He couldn't get over how good the steak was. He asked if I'd purchased the steaks from a specialty store. I replied, no, I purchased the meat from a grocery store. Remember those? I've never had a good cut of meat from Wal-Mart. When I look at the slection of meat offered by Wal-Mart it looks cheap to me. I'd much rather shop for groceries in a grocery store, even if it does cost a little more money. I hope the non-Wal-Mart grocery stores find a way to survive. I will miss them if they go.
  24. My last appliance, a refrigerator, was purchased at Cirtuit City. The Circuit City stores in my area no longer carry appliances. It seems like Best Buy still has an appliance line (I think?). Does Home Depot carry appliances too? I can't remember. I purchased a washer/dryer set a few years ago. The set was purchased from a local appliance dealer who beat the hell out of Sears on pricing and service. I do hope Sears & KMart survive. More stores provide more competition which results, hopefully, in a better experience for the consumer. We don't need no Wal-Mart monopoly.
  25. When I heard of the KMart/Sears merger, my first thought was that I'd be able to purchase Craftsman tools at KMart. Other than this, no other thoughts. The only items I purchase at either store, when needed and not often, are the tools. I haven't been to a Sears or KMart store in quite some time. The Target stores fufill my Wal-Mart/KMart needs. I haven't been in need of any new Craftsman tools. Which causes me to wonder if anybody else still makes purchases at Sears and/or KMart? Maybe this is one of the reasons the two corporations decided to merge?
