  2. Me no like Airborne/DHL. link
  3. Will somebody being getting a few pictures and post them to this board? Maybe? Please?
  4. 1985-1986: The Complete Desmond/Hall Quartet, via an ad in DownBeat Magazine After my initial Mosaic purchase, I got busy with college and life. I didn't make another Mosaic purchase till I placed an order for the Hank Mobley box circa 2002.
  5. You're in Dallas? You can get a direct flight to almost anywhere from DFW. Go, go see Organissimo live.
  6. Damn. I live too far away. Mapquest says Tucson to Ann Arbor is only 30 hours in the car.
  7. In the background is a poster for the movie Spanglish. This indicates, to me, this picture is, at most, a month old. Thanks for posting the picture.
  8. I agree completely. I have always felt the same way. When Johnny Carson was the host of the Tonight Show, I was a Tonight Show faithful. While growing up, I remember my Dad always saying he couldn't go to bed till after Johnny's monologue. During the first couple of years with Leno hosting the Tonight Show things weren't the same. To be fair, it couldn't be expected to be the same. Througout the years since Carson retired from public life, I've learned to quit watching the Tonight Show or any of the late night talk shows. The late night TV atmosphere is simply not as enjoyable without the presence of Johnny Carson. I've always maintained faith that Johnny Carson would make just one more appearance on the Tonight Show as a guest or as a guest host. Alas, it was not to be.
  9. Thanks for the link to the picture and the article, man. The thread you were searching for is located here.
  10. I remember the first time I heard OF LOVE AND PEACE. I thought the drums were amazing and, before reading the liner notes, assumed it was Elvin Jones doing the drum work. I was surprised to discover it wasn't Elvin Jones, rather, there were TWO drummers on the session. Then it seemed somewhat humorous to realize it took TWO drummers to equal something on the same level as ONE Elvin Jones.
  11. I've often wondered what it would have been like to be on the nasty end of a tirade from Miles Davis or Thelonious Monk?
  12. This makes me content to be a listener of jazz, a jazz aficionado, rather than a player of jazz. Especially those jazzy drums.
  13. I've posted many opinions, to this board, regarding the consistent quality offered by Miyamoto and Beck. These guys just don't have an 'off' day in the studio. I'll continue to purchase from the RVG series and the K2 series. The K2 series has proven, to my ears, to offer a consistently better sound quality. There are many RVGs that sound really good too. The RVG series offers the classic Blue Note sessions with a lower price tag and preferred packaging. In summary, there are positives and negatives from each series of reissues.
  14. As usual, I just can't quit buying more and more K2s.

    RVG question

I'm thinking of BYRD IN HAND which Ron McMaster did in 24-bit for the Mosaic box.
  16. Christiern: When reading these boards, it's easy to forget you were 'there' when some of this stuff went down. Thanks for posting the pictures.
  17. My local Barnes & Noble always has a copy of I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND (on CD) in stock. Check your B&N, the Grant Green might be on the shelf waiting for you. I've never seen the title at my local Border's store.

I didn't know what CCCD meant. I did a Google search and discovered CCCD = Copy Control CD. I don't have a need to copy my CDs. My complaint is that a copy control code makes it damned difficult to play CDs on my computer, regardless of whether I make a copy or not.
  19. I'm listening to THE FIRST DAY as I type these words at 4:30 in the morning. Perfect. B-)
  20. My experience with Mosaic sets is that certain items may not be of interest at all times. As soon as I label certain material as being of no interest to me, however, I discover something new about jazz and said material becomes very much of interest. It never fails.
  21. I've been in a Sonny Stitt mood, like, real bad, lately. Time to get the Sonny Stitt Mosaic?
  22. I enjoy the history of jazz. I enjoy Miles Davis and John Coltrane. With the exception of certain recordings here and there, my enjoyment of more recent jazz releases ends circa 1972. I tried to enjoy the jazz players of the 1980s but could never find a way to appreciate them much. My memory of the 1980s jazz players is that they were highly skilled in playing their instruments but had no real style of their own. I've watched the first four episodes of the Ken Burns 'Jazz' series. Keeping in mind that the series was written for and presented to the general public, not solely to a bunch of jazz aficionados, the 'Jazz' series has been, to me, quite good. Pat Metheny, to me, has been a shining light in the modern day of jazz. He was there in the 1980s and has been there ever since. Metheny is the only modern day jazz musician who still gets me to buy his records. To my ears, Metheny took all that came before him -- modernized it, popularized it, linked the past to the future, and created a style all his own. Metheny has kept the music moving forward while few others have had the same influence in recent years. I hear all kinds of 'new' things in Pat's music. I hear 'old' things as well.
  23. I've never visited the site.
  24. I keep thinking of Minor Meeting [First Version] with Sonny Clark on the piano and Clifford Jordan on the saxophone. To me, this is better than the second version with Hank Mobley. Both versions are contained on this CD: My Conception
  25. I think I’m going to Katmandu. That’s really, really where I’m going to. If I ever get out of here, That’s what I’m gonna do. K-k-k-k-k-k Katmandu.
