I purchased the Mosaic titles in just the opposite direction. I ordered the Carmell Jones Select first, then ordered the Gerald Wilson Complete. I wanted to get more of the Gerald Wilson I'd heard via the Carmell Select. I posted earlier in this thread that one of the disks is comprised of 1960s rock tunes. What I wrote is true. However, to agree with other posters in this thread, the one disk should not be a reason to skip the set. The rest of the tunes in the Wilson box are very good. Wilson has the ability to create a very warm & cozy environment for the instruments to dance within. To my ears, Gerald Wilson's take on 'Milestones' is one of the best interpretions I've had the pleasure of experiencing. Even the disk of 1960s popular tunes has become a friend.

Be aware that many of the songs on one of the disks in the Gerald Wilson set are remakes of 1960s popular/rock tunes. Tunes such as Light My Fire. I didn't like these songs at first... later, started enjoying them.

Unfortunately, Tucson's just not a jazz oriented kind of town. If you desire menudo, cold beer, and hot weather, however, we've got it... all kinds of it. I believe Bud Shank resides in Tucson these days. Sometimes he'll do small Tucson shows in intimate settings. I've never had the pleasure of seeing him myself. http://www.budshankalto.com/

Brad: You have done well at getting to the bottom of things such as this, with Mosaic, in the past. While it's fun to speculate, thanks for your effort in attempting to learn the truth.

The can of soup wan't bad. It's supposed to be the best canned menudo available. I might have to get some menudo from a restaurant tomorrow (Sunday) morning. The Hispanic culture in Tucson has taught me how to enjoy breakfast on a desert summer's Sunday... hot menudo and cold beer (with lime juice added to both). You can't go wrong.

I discovered Widespread Panic in the year 2000. I was surprised when I learned a band of that name wasn't a punk band. I was more surprised the first time I learned of the death of Michael Houser. So many lead guitarists prance around the stage and make all kinds of facial expressions as they play. Houser would just sit there, nearly motionless, and play all that wild, psychedelic, mind-bending shit.

I recommend these two titles:

Carelessness and theft at radio stations. Yeah. Funny. Isn't it? When I purchased my Mosaic sets, they, too, were delivered with boxes and artwork.

Yes. I'd much rather buy the merchandise directly from Mosaic. I'd rather spend the larger number of dollars for my peace of mind. To know I can return the product and/or obtain assistance from Mosaic if things aren't what were expected.

On the Selects, I'd rather pay the higher price and get the merchandise directly from Mosaic. It helps support Mosaic in a direct fashion (eliminates the middle man), Mosaic provides a very quick shipping service, and, if there are any problems, Mosaic is easy to deal with. I view the 'extra' dollars as insurance against potential problems.

I've already purchased the listed Selects directly from Mosaic. I have no need to purchase the Selects all over again. I'm wondering, though, is the site offering the $11 deals not a reliable online vendor? I've never heard of the company.

I just completed my first viewing of Barefoot Adventure. What a cool film! It's neat to see the footage of California and Hawaii in the early 1960s. The director, Bruce Brown, adds some witty commentary and a words of surfing history. The film is enjoyable and the soundtrack is great. Since being familiar with the Barefoot Adventure soundtrack via the Bud Shank Mosaic, it's interesting to see how well the music matches the surfing scenes in the film. Yes, the film does contain some music not found in the Mosaic box.

How about 2005? Seriously, I'd recommend Phoenix over Tucson. I can be in Phoenix in two hours from my front door.
