  1. I wouldn't call this crazy but I like it.
  2. I was never impressed with Tony Williams' drumming, from a listener's perspective, not a player's perspective. I've always liked Philly Joe, Elvin Jones, Art Blakey, or Max Roach much better. Upon listening to the Miles mid-1960s releases on Columbia... I'm totally impressed with Williams' drumming style. I mean, Williams is ALL OVER THE PLACE. Inside, outside, upside down... a cymbal here, a snare there, add a little of the pedal when needed (I suppose he uses the pedal? Jeez, I'm no drummer). All kinds of sounds flowing from Williams' drums, high frequency, low frequency, fast, slow, just everything imaginable from his drum set. I can't explain it but Tony Williams has proven himself to me.
  3. Man, get it! Didn't I already tell ya?
  4. Hey. I never wanted the Charlie Parker box. Never. Never. Never. This thread, which 'I' started, had better not make me want the Charlie Parker box. Not for a while, at least.
  5. Maybe you could skip the electric bill again?
  6. Errr... make sure your browser is open to the full screen size? Maybe?
  7. I'm familiar with only very basic HTML coding. I don't know how you do it. But, yes, this page looks very nice. I like the Flash activity. Very eye-catching.
  8. AfricaBrass: I don't have the Benedetti box. I can't honestly say 'yay' or 'nay' about it. My feeling is that it wouldn't be for me. But, one never knows. Yeah, you should go ahead and get this box while you're on your buying high. Man, get it.
  9. Opinions do seem to differ regarding the New Orleans Jazz box. From the posts I've read, people seem to really enjoy or really not enjoy the New Orleans Jazz box. I believe it's an excellent set of music. Yes, even the dreaded funeral music on the first disk. It's a box I'm always glad to know I have when I do an eyeball scan through personal stack of Mosaics. Down In A Honkytonk Town. Of course, only purchase this box if you do like or are interested in New Orleans style jazz. I've learned much from this box.
  10. Okay. This does it for me. I'll have to purchase the JJ Johnson box in my next Mosaic order. Nope, no choice. I have to do it. B)
  11. 1. Atlantic New Orleans Jazz 2. Tristano/Konitz/Marsh 3. Morgan/Shorter Vee Jay 4. Chambers/Kelly Vee Jay
  12. The Benedetti/Charlie Parker box will never expire. Is this correct? I checked the Mosaic discography but, unless I missed it, could find no release date on the Benedetti box.
  13. What's the oldest 'current' Mosaic box (set of CDs)? I don't mean the Mosaic of the oldest music based on the music's original recording date. But, what's the oldest Mosaic based on Mosaic's release date? I found the Condon record set with a Mosaic date of 1994. The oldest CD box I can come up with is the JJ Johnson box from 1996. Is there a CD box I missed with a Mosaic release date older than 1996?

    It's Tuesday!

Feck. It still says 'Krall' on the cover.

    It's Tuesday!

My local Border's (both of them) have a much narrower jazz CD selection than what they used to have.

    It's Tuesday!

I wonder if this is true for any jazz CDs? You get the lowest-priced CD for free? If my local Border's store had let me know this, they'd have been able to sell more CDs, for sure.

    It's Tuesday!

I know there are some new RVGs being released this summer. I know Mosaic has announced some up-and-coming releases in future months. But, hey, it's Tuesday! Today. I go to my local Border's store every Tuesday and/or Wednesday evening to see what I can find. To learn what was just released/available that I didn't know about. To try to eye any new packaging that doesn't appear to be something I noticed the previous week. If I were to make my way down to my local Border's, Tower, Barnes & Noble, Virgin, local jazz shop, or pick-your-choice store, what should I be looking for? What issues/re-issues should be in the bins THIS Tuesday. Yeah, I realize that Border's might not have the new stuff on the shelves till Wednesday. Still, I can go look, wish, and dream... can't I? What should I dream about? What might I find on store shelves? What will 'you' be looking for at the music stores today? What have 'you' seen? Post 'em here (so I'll know what to spend my money on).
  18. I had this same thought, exactly. The Columbia Hot Fives and Sevens Complete is a very nice package. But, the way the disks are stored is very poor. I was surprised to see such a potential disk-scratcher in the very nice Armstrong box. If these disks are played much, they need to be store someplace other than the Fives and Sevens box.
  19. Is this a blue metal spine on the Complete Bitches Brew box? I can't quite tell from this picture. >link<
  20. Thanks, Rooster. I keep going to the stores and looking for a Mosaic Complete sized box. From the pictures I've seen, I can never determine what kind of box the Plugged Nickel set is in. The pictures have seemed, to me, like a record-sized box. I think, the pictures of this set generally just show a close-up of the cover of the Plugged Nickel box. I can see from the picture you linked to, however, that the Plugged Nickel box is more like a thick Mosaic Select. Or, more like a thick version of the Miles/Blackhawk box. Again, much thanks for the Plugged Nickel box picture you supplied.
  21. What's the style of the packaging of the Complete Plugged Nickel box? I've never seen the Plugged Nickel box in a store. Never. Is the Plugged Nickel box a full, record-sized box, such as the Mosaic boxes? Or, more of a slimmed-down, narrower-shaped type thing?
  22. Don't feel too darned bad about yourself. I've purchased 4 Mosaic sets in the last couple of months due to this board. Of course, all the sets are so good that I'd have been ticked if I'd missed any of them.
  23. I've never seen this packaging, except for, maybe, in pictures. What made it a nightmare?
  24. Ummm... yes. 'I' knew it.
  25. BFrank: Thanks for the information. I may need to place my order for Complete Silent Way box soon. What does dave9199 mean? The original Silent Way box didn't have the metal spine?
