Really dig the unreleased Art Pepper Village Vanguard recordings from 1977 feat Onaje Allan Gumbs, Gene Perla and Joe LaBarbera .... shared by Laurie Pepper but can't find the weblink anymore ....
Armando Sanchez Y Su Conjunto Son De La Loma "Songo Y Guantanamo" (Montuno Records) 1980 ... great trumpet work by Isaac Torres and vocal tour de force via Miguel Quintana .... wonderful ....
Eddie Hinton "Hard Luck Guy" (Zane Records) 1999 .... great deepsoul tracks have a perfecting timing for the horns to kick in .... that`s the case here and Eddie Hinton sings his heart out .... recorded in 1977 und unreleased for more than two decades ....
Obviously the recording from Karel Ancerl and the CPO remains unbeatable, nevertheless Antoni Wit achieves a loving interpretation full of details ....
You`re right aubout Steve Berrios .... great drumming/percussion work with Mongo Santamaria, Hector Lavoe, Alberto "Chocolate" Armenteros, Jerry Gonzalez & Fort Apache Band and - as you said - recurringly Hilton Ruiz ....,
Was lucky enough to see him in a trio setting with Jerry Gonzales (tp, cng) and Kirk Lightsey (p) and with Tito Puente & The Golden Latin Jazz All-Stars in the early 1990`s .... both unforgetable ....
